His emptied his third beer before the waitress had even come back with their main orders.
"Another beer," he muttered, as she set his burger in front of him, "Make it two. Want anything doll?"
She cringed at the word, and tried to shake it off, "Can I just get a water?"
The waitress gave her a sympathetic look as she left. Mac turned her attention to her sandwich, regretting more and more meeting him for lunch. Besides getting drunk in the middle of the day, he has already pissed off two waitresses, and Mac. He that kind of douchebag: thinks way to highly of himself and doesnt realize he is annoying everyone around him every time he opens his mouth. Even being associated with him was making Mac feel gringy, and as his lazy brown eyes stared at her she felt the bile fill her throat.
"So what's new beautiful?" he slurred, munching on a fry.
"Not much," she muttered, playing with her sandwich, "Joined this lab for testing or whatever, make some extra money."
He nodded like he actually cared, "Cool, cool. Hey did you hear I got promoted? Yeah my office promoted me up to third floor. Bigger stalls, a little later in the day. Not much, but I got a small raise. I can afford that condo we always wanted."
"I wanted," Mac corrected, "You thought buying a condo was stupid. I wanted it."
"Whatever, I totally put a down payment on it. I'm moving in at the end of the month. If your apartment doesn't work out, you'll have a place to stay with me."
More bile. She would never, in a million years, crawl back to him. Yeah, she was struggling with her apartment, but she'd rather stay with Valentine than Rick. The thought about him brought back everything from the night before and she downed the rest of her drink in an attempt to force it back.
"So what is there to do around here?" Rick continued, unfazed.
"Nothing for you," she muttered, waiting for him to ignore her. And he did. He continued to theorize what the city had to offer, ignoring any comments she made. At this point, anything short of ripping her dress off wouldn't get the attention of his alcohol swimming brain.
So she ignored him and focused on the room, munching on her food as she took in the faces around her. There was a young couple in one booth, and a few older men nursing cold beers. Than her eyes caught a familar face. He fucking followed me! Oh my god...he...well I can't be that shocked. I saw what he was like last night. Why did he follow me? Unless...oh no...
She made some lame comment about the bathroom and rushed away, keeping her distance from Valentine. She tried to throw up the drugs in her system, but her body only dry heaved. She returned, annoyed and nervous to Rick, who hadn't seemed to notice.
"We should catch a movie," he blathered on, "Maybe check out your place later."
Maybe Valentine wouldn't be such bad company. Better than this doofus. Her body seemed to agree with her thoughts, as her eyes wandered back towards Valentine. She wanted to pretend she hadn't noticed, but her brain was losing control once more and her body was beginning to act on its own. Don't panic, she calmed herself, [/i] we can work this in our favor.[/i]
She whipped out her phone, finding his cell that he had already put into his phone. A part of her buzzerd with excitement as she sent a short text.
See you. Help me escape. Jerk name's Rick. Don't screw this up Cameron.
She clicked send and hide her phone in her purse, pretending to be interested in whatever bullshit Rick was mumbling. In seconds Valentine was sliding in beside her, devilish smile on his lips.
"Baby!" she purred, wrapping her arms around him dramatically and cutting Rick completely off, "I didn't know you'd be here!"
