Heroism

I can see my breath, I shiver.
The streetlights cast an eerie glow over
bladed shadows.
I look up, expecting to see
a hero.
This world has always needed
a hero.
Criminals run rampant
through the city.
They destroy the peace
kepping children
indoors.
I scream in
RAGE
and no one
Answers.
The hero
is gone.
Maybe he was never here.
It's night, pitch black,
with bladed shadows.
A lack of that brilliance they call
Light.
No one
is here.
Have they
forgotten
us?
Then I realize
I have been looking for
a hero.
When all along
The hero was me.
No one else rises up
so it must be up to me to do what
no one else
can.
