The water poured down over his skin and Alex closed his eyes, soaking up the heat as it curled around him, the simmering waves of water sinking into his body and soothing his wounds. Never had a shower felt so luxurious, so relaxing, but when the water ran out, he turned it off with a sigh and stepped out. His senses automatically checked the home’s defenses, coursing through the magic like he lived in it, checking for any weaknesses. Finding none, he quickly dried off and slipped on a robe hanging on the back of the door then padded into the hallway. A glance into the bedroom told him that Susan was no longer there and for a moment fear spiked in him. It only lasted a second though as a pulse of magic told him where she was and that she was safe. Smiling, he headed down the hallway and paused at the entrance to her room, his eyes taking in the sight before him. She was sitting at her easel, a blank canvas standing before her, with soft music playing in the background. Her back was bare to his gaze, a sheet pooling around her waist, and her radiant hair sparkled in the light. He wanted to go to her, wrap his arms around her waist and kiss the back of her neck but he knew that would disturb her so he didn’t. Instead, he turned and entered the hallway, softly padding away into the kitchen, letting her have this moment of peace, when her world was right and wonderful. He began to gather dishes and pans, setting food on the counter, wanting a hearty breakfast to kick off the day and give him the strength to figure out their next move. It was clear that Draken had to be dealt with if they were to have a happy life outside of the house, something that he considered a necessity.
