Pouting a bit when Brad released his hand and took the first step, Kris was fully aware that the stepping stones weren’t big enough for both of them to cross together, but logic couldn’t always placate the discontent felt by emotion. He wanted to complain, but had no idea how, and even that intention soon faded when Brad gave him a handsome wink and a playful challenge. His mind now turning a full one-eighty and deciding that it didn’t matter what Brad did as long as he was willing to stick around.
“Of course I’m coming” Kris responded taking a leap forward and easily managing to step out onto the first stone. He hadn’t been here in years but his body seemed to have remembered the numerous hours he spent as a young child hopping from one stone to the next… albeit, back then his jump had been tested to the limit and he’d fallen into the sea of flowers on several occasions. Nostalgia, and happiness joined by the feeling of accomplishment, it wasn’t like Brad had asked him anything yet, but figuring Brad deserved some answers Kris started explaining the little story that went with the place.
“Found this place when I was a kid…” he started pointedly trying to indicate that he wasn’t a kid any more. “My own little secret hideout, I thought I was the first person to find the place…. I was just a kid, give me a break” he complained, realizing just how childish his thoughts had been at the time. “But some old guy came along and explained how this place was special to him, something about the flowers being planted by his wife before she went far far away…..” Kris stopped, standing still on one of the stones as he thought over the words carefully, only now realizing what those words could have meant.
Shaking his head, and deciding not to worry about it, the man had been in his late eighties when Kris had last seen him, so it’d probably been a good few years since they’d been reunited in the afterlife. “Anyway, he made me promise I’d bring my special someone here when I got bigger, said that the spirits of nature would bless my relationship and I’d live happily ever after with the love of my life….”
Having focused on the stones so that he wouldn’t fall, Kris finally look up at Brad again smiling. “I don’t believe any of that anymore, but if still feels nice being here again… and it’s hidden well enough from others for us to…. you know” he mumbled the last part, his smile becoming a bit awkward as heat rose to his cheeks at the thought of what he’d been promised.
(Whoops, didn't think you'd be back until yesterday, my bad >_<)
