And the fight is on!
Nicolas rushed straight at Ara'chana'thul, and of all things, she seemed to grin. Her hand swept out in a wide punch that Nicolas had little doubt would have far more force than her frame would suggest. He ducked under, before rising up in a lunge. His knee rose to connect with her sternum with all his momentum. The blow told, winding her. Her new shape might have strength beyond it's size, but there was one thing that it lacked. And that was mass. As she fell back, Nicolas used the moment to sieze his blade from his raised leg, and run it across his palm. The tattoos on his body blazed to life, and he charged in again. Ara'chana'thul gave a shriek, an utterly inhuman sound that grated on the ears, and clawed at his sanity. Her form shifted, and her arms elongated, carapace bursting from the skin, and her hands hardening into claws. The arms were faster now, and Nicolas was hard pressed to dodge the blow that came for him. The blazing light of his tattoos was brighter now, trying to ward him from harm. As he closed range he heard a tearing sound, and human looking blood erupted from the sides of Ara'chana'thul, two more sets of arms pushing free. Nicolas was too committed to the attack to stop now. He ducked under an arm, his blade running along the carapace, leaving a smoking line on it, a faint trail of essence following the movements of both apendage and weapon. Nicolas spied two claws arcing for him, coming directly at him. There was no way for him to dodge. He braced for the impact.
He felt very human arms wrap around him adn tackle him down. He saw Sophia falling from a rip in the Veil, and carrying him into another. They rolled to a halt, a layer deeper, before she pulled him to his feet and lead him through another, landing them behind the Queen. Nicolas saw that tucked into the back of her robe was Sophia's blade. He raked his blade along her back, drawing a screech from her, and parting the robe. She'd extended her carapace up her back to guard herself, resulting in another smoking line. Nicolas picked the falling balde out of the air, and tossed it behind him. Sophia caught it, and smiled. The Queen rounded, her form changing again, growing taller, heavier. She was now more than eight feet tall, and her reach and strength were going to be extreme. Still, he ahd a skilled ally for this fight. It was time to go to work.
Sophia seemed to be everywhere at once, leaping through rips in the Veil, sometimes able to pierce multiple layers in a single move. She was keeping the Queen off balance while Nicolas worked on her. There was a multitude of those smoking lines connecting the Queen to Nicolas' blade, each one a sign that he was coming closer and closer to binding her into the blade. The Queen was getting desperate. She might have been more than a match for Sophia. And even more so to Nicolas. But she was hard pressed indeed just to keep pace with both of them at once. Nicolas dove under a sweeping claw that dug a deep furrow into the floor where he'd been standing a second ago, and Nicolas spied a target. His blade found a gap in the carapace, adn sank into the meat beneath it. The Queen howled as he withdrew quickly, Sophia once again being there to tackle him through a rip to preserve his life. A blast of searing Banefire hit the ground behind them, adn tehy kept running, tryign to avoid that fire. It was just as deadly in this layer as in the one that the Queen was inhabiting. They emerged fromt eh layer, Sophia instantly Stepping back through the veil to ready another attack. There was a long, dense tendril of smoke leaking from the new wound on the knee of the Queen. She was becoming progressively less human, and far mroe spider-like. The stones in her hair had begun to shift forward, and were looking more and more like insect eyes. Nicolas let out a long breath, adn jogged forward, varying his pace, well aware of how she might take the time to smite him through time. Sophia appeared behind her, level with her back, and jabbed her blade into the Queen as she fell. Sophia fell into another tear as the Queen rounded on her. Banefire exploded into the air, and Nicolas decided to take a gamble. He got a hard running start, taking deep breaths as he did so. This was going to be risky. If she saw him coming, then he was as good as dead. He aimed for a mound of earth that rose more than five feet off the ground,a dn ran straight up it. When he reached the top, he leapt.
He soundlessly flew through the air, blade in both hands over his head. The queen turned to him just before he hit. The balde punched through teh carapace on her chest, and sank deep. She howled as his weight drew him down, ripping into her, carving a deep wound. The howl rose to a wordless screech of denial as the wound told on ehr enough to begin to draw her intot he blade. A few moments later, the Queen was gon, and Nicolas stood panting. A moment later, Sophia limped through a rip, her leg looking hurt, adn the pant leg singed off of her.
"You okay?" He asked her. She nodded.
"Glancing blow at best. You're not bad at this Nick." She said with a smile.
"You're amazing at this. How do you jump around like that?"
"Practice. And some amount of knowing how to find the weak points int he veil. makes it easy to make a breach without actually cutting intot he veil."
"Can you teach me to do that?"
"Sure. I owe you that much at teh very least for getting me out of here." Nicolas smiled, and offered her his shoulder. She accepted it, leaned on him, and he started to lead her out.
