It was a new game, with experimental technology. The idea was to create as immersive a game as possible. Using the most famous and popular tabletop RPG as a basis, the company had created and designed an MMO using a virtual reality system it had designed. After they had worked out everything they could in the design stages, they needed a human tester to 'dive' into the game and try playing it. The chosen tester was being debriefed now...
"This game will change the world, if it works. And the system will keep this company afloat for years if it works out as projected. We want you to test out everything you possibly can, and record every aspect you can remember afterwards. You won the right to be the first beta tester, so try to do well. You'll be the baseline for all testing afterwards.
While in the game, you'll be able to call up menus via your thoughts. That way you can access data on your character at anytime, save where you're at, and load previous files. While in the game, you shouldn't feel any pain, but instead a slight shock. We'd prefer you at some point to try dying, but it'll be fine if you don't. The system will abort if your vital signs indicate that you're dying in real life, so there's no need to worry there.
Now, while we can't read your mind, we can see what you see, and read what you write in the notes section of your character sheet. So, if at anytime you want out, let us know. We can also respond to you in the notes section as well.
Your session will be over once you've completed the 'Tower of Varkas' quest. You can take as long as you want. Now, we aren't exactly sure, but there should be a time differential of some kind, since it is at the speed of thought. That is one of the things we'll try to find out as you play. Are there any questions?" The man giving the debriefing asked.
