The Wrong Spell, By XavierHarper and Minako2012

"That long..." She said softly.

She looked at the ground she never knew it wasn't as if she'd never been called pretty or anything. It had just never occured to her that Irvine might think of her as pretty.

"I always figured you saw me as your bratty...younger sister..." She said setting the book down "I mean...we barely speak..."

She didn't move away from the bed really she wanted to comfort Irvine but if this worked she could. With a soft sigh she looked at Irvine before stepping away.

"Irvine...why'd you get into this stuff?" She asked him "I mean...I never actually asked you before...but I'm curious..."

She waited patiently while he translated the list wondering if this would even help him. He needed to be himself again he really did and she wanted to make sure he was himself. When the list was finished she rushed out to gather the stuff for him.

"Yes, but we don't fight much either. And despite me being me, you've never insulted or belittled me either. True, we have different hobbies, but partly because I didn't want you involved, in case something went wrong. Like it did." Irvine said as he wrote the list in English. "I never saw you as bratty, though some of your friends are very catty. And obviously you're my younger sister. Unless Father's secretly Doctor Who." Irvine stated, sarcasm clear in the last sentence.

"Partly I got into magic to tweak Father's nose. It was something he was always against, even when it was just fantasy books. Some of it was hope that it was real, that I could possibly be a heroic mage. The last reason is that it's fascinating, the way people tried to explain things back then, before science came to power. A large part of me thought it was just people's way of describing the indescribable." Irvine revealed.

Irvine finished the list, and laid it on the desk near the bed. "That should be everything needed. Don't worry about the knife, I got that in here." Irvine said. The list read a variety of things, from candles to thyme, some of them with a side note. The side notes were often a question of why this or that ingredient.

"Dad belittles you enough...I don't have any reason to heap more on your shoulders" She said to him "Thank you...for wanting to protect me."

She had to smile at least he cared but she'd never bothered trying to get into his hobby in the first place. It had always scared her then again maybe it was better that he hadn't involved her.

Its not Doctor Who its the Doctor" She retorted "You and I are going to marathon that show as soon as you're back to normal."

She could understand his reasoning hell anyone could but it made her wonder what else was real. He had proven magic real but how much of it was real. That thought scared her more than anything had ever scared her before.

"I can understand that...magic...is something everyone wants to he real" She said softly picking up the list "I'll be right back I promise."

She rushed out of the room to gather everything he wanted at least she wouldn't have to go to some obscure store for it all. This changes everything especially between the two of them not sure what should happen. She wanted to get lost in her thoughts but she had a task to complete and as soon as it was finished she walked back up toward his room.

"Irvine...I got...everything...you asked for" She said softly.

"Thanks Lisa. Just put them down on the floor. I'll do the counter spell when you leave the room, and this mindset should go away, along with 'all the shadow's influence'. At least I think that's the translation. It isn't always decipherable Latin, and some of the words had multiple meanings. Causes me slight headaches sometimes." Irvine responded, still not looking at Lisa, but no longer huddled up in the corner, or undressed. He had on a different blue shirt, since his black one had been torn apart.

When Lisa left the room, Irvine started setting up the spell. Once he was ready, Irvine double checked everything, before nodding. "Alright, here goes." He muttered to himself, at this point managing to deal with the new instincts, which were shouting to not do this. Irvine began a chant that lasted about half a minute, and then cut himself again once he was done, 'releasing what had been stored in the blood'.

This time, Irvine patiently waited the twelve seconds out. A last minute realization hit him once Irvine mentally reached twelve. Dealing with the forced instincts must've taken more than he thought. <Should've laid down.> Was Irvine's last thought, before falling unconscious and hitting the floor with a thump. Unseen to him, the shadows seemed to leapt out of him, but left behind the physique it had forced on him. All magic leaves it's traces...

Lisa waited outside her hands crossed in front of her as she leaned against the door worried for her own brother's safety. She was also thinking about what she'd learned Irvine really looked at her that way. It confused her part of her was happy and enthusiastic that he saw her as beautiful but the other half was scared. She didn't know how Irvine would act around her when he was normal would he avoid her or would he want to be close to her.

She was snapped out of her thoughts by the loud thud and was already running into the room. Irvine was already unconcious and she ran over to him not worrying abouy whether the spell worked or not.

"Irvine" She said softly placing her hand on his shoulder "Wake up...please...don't be hurt."

He still didn't look like himself but she was worried he was hurt it was unnerving to see him like this.

Several minutes pass where Irvine doesn't respond, but finally...

"Ugh, my head..." Irvine says, in his normal voice. It ached and throbbed, like someone had taken a bat and smacked his skull with it. "That's quite unpleasant." Irvine tried to get up, but his new physique made him quite clumsy, so he fell back to the ground. Just because he was muscular didn't mean he knew how to move with it. That had left with the shadow, perhaps done in spite. He saw Lisa, and while it was no longer an irresistible desire to take her immediately, he was still attracted to her, and despite the return of his normal mindset, in love with his sister. The bitter resignation of that love, the fact that it wasn't the spell, and was in fact his own feelings, was now attacked by the thoughts of how wrong it was viewed by society and the morals of most people. But it didn't change that love, or smother it's existence.

"Thanks for the help, Lisa. And sorry about grabbing you..." Irvine said, a gentle smile on his face. Unknowingly, raw love and affection was also in his eyes and tone.

She visibly relaxed when he answered her and she heaved a sigh of relief and moved to help him sit up. When he felt she looked worried but at least he wasn't hurt. When he apologized her face softened he was back to normal. She could see the affection in his eyes and she shot forward wrapping her arms around him.

"Irvy...you're back" She sobbed softly "I was so scared...I thought...thought I was gonna lose you."

She held onto him it didn't matter that he looked different he was still Irvine and she had almost lost him. How she felt about him wasn't certain if anything she felt confused about him he felt that way about her.

"Don't...scare me like that again...please" She said softly.

Lisa wasn't going to let him do this stuff alone she wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed but if something worse happened she didn't want him to be alone.

Irvine slowly wrapped his arms around Lisa, surprised by her hug. "Hey, it's okay. I'm... in control, anyway. Fine'll have to wait until I get used to this. And I'll avoid messing with unknown magics, okay?" Irvine asked, slightly surprised by her concern.

<Maybe it wasn't rejection.> Irvine thought to himself as he held his sister, trying to calm her down. <Maybe it was just the shock of the idea, and never even contemplating it. No need to get my hopes up> He thought pessimistically, <But no need to give up completely either.> Uncertain of where they stood, and of how she felt about all of this, Irvine just tried to reassure her.

"I'll probably be a bit clumsy for a bit, if this is permanent, but no more tentacles, no more..." He paused, feeling something... else, in his mind. Cautiously, hoping for it to not be a reoccurrence of the spell, he tentatively prodded it. A surge of the shadows briefly occurred, and in his mind he could feel... an Other. At least, that was the best way he could put it. It seemed like him, but... simpler, somehow. He couldn't tell much about it, but it wasn't doing anything either.

"I was scared...I..." She buried her face in his chest sobbing.

She had been scared of what he would have done to her but she had been even more terrified that she'd have lost Irvine.

'I forgive you Irvine" She said softly.

She would help him in any way she could and if that meant learning how to do this magic stuff she'd do it. When he paused she looked up at him concerned.

"Are you okay Irvine" She said softly.

She leaned back looking at his face hoping he hadn't been wrong about that thing being gone. Bringing one hand to his face she watched for any change in him. She probably should have gone but she cared way too much about Irvine.

"Sorry." Irvine said, his smile turning apologetic. "Just found some more things the spell left behind. I think it'll be alright. Not really sure what it is though... Didn't mean to worry you." It was nice, her hand upon his face. And the genuine concern was a balm to his feelings. He thought that he'd driven her away with his actions under the spell.

Irvine tried to stand back up, and managed to do so, but he was obviously used to less body mass. He began cleaning up the mess from the counter spell, and hesitantly tried to talk to Lisa. Uncertain what she would what to talk about, or even if she wanted to be around him.

"So, how's... your friends doing?" He asked, almost wincing as he remembered his comment about some of them being catty. At least he seemed to be getting better about using his new physique, even as he nearly throws some burnt materials.

She moved to help him stand but he managed it on his own but she did go in to help him clean up. He tried to talk and she smiled at his effort.

"Same..." She said softly "So...did you...teach yourself Latin...could you...teach me?"

It was her way of showing interest if Magic was real then she wanted to learn about. If he was going to be involved then she wouldn't let him go it alone. Then again she doubted she could protect him she hadn't known what to do when that thing had attacked her.

"I...uhm...I...want to know..." She murmured "More...about...all of this...if...you're...okay with that."

She focused on helping him clean she really hoped he wouldn't mind he didn't need to be going this alone. If she could help it she'd be right beside him and she wasn't gonna let their dad bad mouth him anymore. That thought just reminded her that she had just stood by when their father berated Irvine.

"Irvy..." She said "I'm...sorry...I never stood up for you...when Dad started in...I...I shoulda..."

Irvine was glad Lisa was willing to talk to him, and wasn't avoiding him. "It is one of the classes I took, and what I got Rosetta Stone for. It's the even older language that get's spliced in now and then that gives me troubles. I think it's a dialect of Babylonian, but I'm not totally sure, and I can't always guess the content." Irvine said. "I'm certainly willing to teach you, if you want to learn it. It is what the Romance languages are descended from."

Irvine stared at her a moment, wondering if she had an idea of what she was asking to get into. "I'm alright with you learning about magic, but... it's a little complex, and with the conflicting accounts I have, I'm not truly sure which of them all works. I know the spells from this book work," Irvine gestures to the book that had started this, "But I'm a little wary of trying to use anything else from it."

Irvine stared for a moment before he interrupted Lisa, not letting her finish that. "It's fine, Lisa. I wasn't exactly quiet in return either. I'm not surprised you didn't get involved in our shouting matches. I appreciate the offer Lisa, but I'd prefer if you stayed out of them." The offer touched him, but if Father ever started on her now, he wasn't sure what he'd do. Worse, the idea seemed to stir the Other that was in his head, whatever that Other was. Irvine gave Lisa an affectionate smile, in hopes of easing any sting from his words. "I'd prefer that I be Father's only target, okay?"

"If I didn't want to I wouldn't have asked" She said smiling at him "Who knows I might be more helpful."

Babylonian that did sound really old but she wondered if she would even be able to learn. Running a hand through her hair she thought about all of this.

"I know...its dangerous..." She said softly "But...its...I don't want you...to be alone in it..."

She was terrified of Magic who wouldn't be but he'd already gotten her involved and now that it had almost lost her her own brother.

"I...was afraid to step in...but...I..." She nibbled her bottom lip "I never liked him...being so mad at you...he wants to live vicariously through you..."

She sighed softly and hugged him again she really did feel guilty their father was an asshole. When he said he'd rather be their dad's only target she looked sad. He didn't deserve to face their dad alone she wouldn't let him.

"So...when do you want that Marathon" She asked changing the subject "I did say we'd Marathon Doctor Who when you got back to yourself."

"It would be nice to have someone double check my work." Irvine, willing teach her Latin and what he'd managed to figure out of the other language.

Irvine rubs the back of his head at her desire to not let him be alone with magic. But it was heartwarming, and made him feel better, lighter. He wasn't getting his hopes to high, but perhaps there could be something between them.

Irvine accepted the hug, not sure how to react to it, or her intention to get involved in the fights with their father.

"I guess now. Only thing that's left is my torn shirt in the hall. Mom and Father shouldn't be back until late, if at all." Irvine said, after one last look around his room. "Doctor Who is the British show with the time traveller who picks up random chicks to go on adventures, right?"

"Yeah they'll be out for awhile" She said.

At his description of the show she started to chuckle and shook her head that was one way to put it.

"His companions aren't always female...but yes that's the one" She said "He travels everywhere in time and space saving the universe...its my favorite show."

She smiled brightly it was something she never really shared with anyone their dad was always proud that she wasn't just some geeky girl and her friends would just laugh at her for liking it. Irvine she could trust though he wouldn't laugh at her for liking some silly sci-fi show.

"I like their explanation of magic...its science just using a series of words rather than equations and numbers" She said "You'll like that episode."

She just realized she was talking like an obessesed fan and stopped talking blushing embarassed.

"Well, saving the universe is something I can get behind." Irvine stated with slight grin. He was glad that she was still willing to hang out with him, despite what had happened. "Science with words, huh? There _might_ be some similarities, but, " Irvine then adopts a false wise man tone, "There's a bit more mystery, and comprehension is beyond our puny mortal minds." He hoped that between some gentle teasing and some bonding over her show, that any harm he'd done to Lisa would fade. It was slightly terrifying to him, that the first bit of magic he'd ever done had done so much with so little.

"I like the Doctor's explanation better...he put it better than I did" She said with a smile.

She wouldn't forget what had haopened but Irvine wasn't like that thing that had him. He was a genuinely good guy and he was one of the few people she didn't have to be careful of what she said.

"Come on let's start the marathon" She said with a bright smile "Uhm...would you be more comfortable watching downstairs...I usually...watch in my room...cause...of dad...but its up to you"

She had used her allowance to purchase the show on DVD so she wouldn't have to worry about it showing up in Netflix. With a bright she bounded downstairs and into the kitchen to grab marathon snacks it was just to keep her busy.

"It... It doesn't matter to me Lisa. Wherever you want to watch it." Irvine said, unable to stop himself from stuttering. The idea of sitting down with her, watching a marathon was nice, but the sudden realization that they could be in her bedroom, alone together, sent a chill of excitement down his spine that he could barely control. He had a feeling that things like this would start to happen more frequently, with his feelings now acknowledged to himself.

Once Lisa left, Irvine nearly beat his head in with his fist, trying to nudge out the ideas that had sprouted. "It's just a TV Marathon. Don't look to deep into it." Irvine muttered to himself, trying not to let himself get his hopes up. Once he thought he had control of himself, he headed downstairs. "Want any help?" Irvine called out.

She had been popping some popcorn and grabbing sodas humming lightly when she heard his voice and smiled.

"Thanks...uhm...could you get the bowl while I grab some chips" She said handing him the large bowl of popcorn "Can't be lazy couch potatoes without junk food."

She grabbed a bag of chips and the sodas before heading up to her room. The food got set down on her nightstand while she set up her laptop for viewing grabbing the first season of the new Doctor Who.

"This show is kind of...well...its old...I only have the new ones..." She said "I wanna see the 60s era...but well...its hard to find...most of it isn't even on DvD"

She set up the Laptop on a cooling pad and hooked up the external speakers for the laptop. Once the lights were switched off she climbed into the bed and snuggled up next to him before turning on the first episode. She hadn't had any ulterior motives the screen was just easier to see when they were closer.

"Right. No marathon is complete without munchies." Irvine replied, more than happy to help with something. After taking everything upstairs, and getting settled in, Irvine patiently waited for Lisa to set things up.

"Well, usually if the series continues or is watched enough, eventually the old episodes are re-released." Irvine said. "Or we can go searching for VHS tapes of the older episodes." He offered.

The feel of Lisa snuggling up to him was fascinating. The curves of her body, the brush of cloth covered flesh against each other, and her warmth... All were noticed, and made him want to react. To take hold of her in a hug at least. Slowly, giving her plenty of time to pull away or nudge him to stop, he wrapped his arm around Lisa.

What Irvine really wanted was to pull Lisa on his lap, and to wrap both arms around her tightly. To gently kiss her neck, perhaps nibble on her. Eventually, make her wild enough to turn around and kiss him on the lips...

Irvine tried to push the images away, and focus on the show. The intro was beginning to end, if the fade to black was any indication, and he'd like to remember at least a little bit. It would be embarrassing if he couldn't recall a single thing about the episode. But the tantalizing ideas weren't so easy to get rid of...

"The old episodes weren't released...and most of the episodes were lost...the show started in the 60s" She said with a sad sigh "I'll never get to see them."

She munched on her popcorn as the episode started and she couldn't help but hum along with the theme song. A hidden geeky side was starting to show in her but she was too wrapped up in being able to enjoy the show with her brother to care. When he put an arm around her she leaned into him getting comfortable as the intro ended. She had no idea how she was affecting him but she enjoyed being close to him. The first episode started with a young blonde girl working in a shop it showed her daily activities until settling into the meat of the story. Living Mannequins that tried to kill her it was a good episode. Lisa seemed to brighten up when Rose was backed against a wall and someone grabbed her hand.

"Run" She breathed at the same time as the Doctor.

She seemed to notice what she'd done and blushed as the episode continued she could recite most of the dialogue in the show. Lisa laughed whenever a joke happened but she let out a soft whimper when the nice man who'd showed Rose old pictures of the Doctor was killed in front of his family and moved closer to Irvine. When the day was saved and Rose whisked off on the next adventure Lisa let the Credits roll.

"That would be amazing...swept up in adventures accross time and space" She said wistfully.
