The Manor (DudeMeister&SHARPii)

Upon hearing her ask about Sly, he pondered a way to tell her that he was gone. He too hoped that there could still be something between them. He cared for her greatly, and from how she was talking o the phone, she did too.

He finally answered her when she asked him why he didn't come to the funeral

"Harper, I felt so guilty. If you hadn't been involved with me your mother would still be alive. I actually was at the funeral. I just felt so guilty about what happened that I sat towards the back. I felt that I had no right to be there, because I felt responsible. I came just to talk to you, but before I could approach you, you stepped into somebody's car and went off. I care for you deeply Harper, and I want to have something with you...but I still feel terrible about everything. The only thing I could do to answer for what I've done was make sure Sly is out of the picture." he said

She stood up now, as if furious. That he seemed to be making a decision for her. “Didn’t I make that decision Hawthorne?” She asked. “Didn’t I decide that I wanted to be with you? That I knew that risk. It was all me. I knew it all. Even after the first run-in with Sly and his goons, I knew that there’d always be dangers and complications yet I still stayed with you. None of this was your fault. None of it was anyone’s fault. Sly just wanted to hurt us both. It was his fault. Not yours. Not mine.” She sniffled and wiped her eyes, pacing back and forth. It made sense now that he had taken care of Sly, killed the bastard. She didn’t care. She cared, yes. She was glad that Sly was dead. But what she cared more was where this all left them. Her and Hawthorne.

“Do you want to see me again?” Yes, she was upset about her mother. Devastated. But she’d be even more devastated if she were to walk away from Hawthorne, the one thing that did actually make sense despite how crazy it might have been. And she saw no reason whatsoever why they shouldn’t be together. She wanted him. She needed him. She probably even loved him but knew it’d be silly to admit that considering they knew each other what, not even a month?

“Or will the guilt keep you from wanting to ever see me again? Even if I want to see you, be with you…”

Hawthorne was moved by her words. She really wanted to be with him. Maybe there was some hope. Maybe he could live a normal life with her. He was happy that there was still a chance for them, but knew that things wouldn't work out overnight.

"I do want to see you again. Where and when?" he asked her

Using the back of her arm, she dashed the wetness in her eyes, even the spill of more tears. She sniffled softly and sat down slowly, thoughtfully almost. "I can meet you somewhere. I'd suggest my apartment but I don't know. Maybe you'd want to meet out in public. In case you think I'd try to kill you or something." Her attempt at a mild joke, to which she laughed lightly.

He chuckled softly. In what used to be his line of work death threats weren't uncommon...but now that he was going straight he was happy he didn't have to put up with them anymore.

"I can meet you at your apartment. When would you like me to come over?" he asked her

Esther was glad to hear his chuckle. She imagined his face when he chuckled. How he smiled. How she could stare into his eyes for hours whenever he smile or chuckled, or laughed even. How it was the most pleasant sound and after everything, it brought a light to her darkness.
"You can come now if you like. Whenever you want. I don't sleep much." Or at all. She hadn't slept properly since they found her mother's dead body.

He was happy that she was so willing to meet him and talk things over. Maybe there was hope for him yet. He hoped that even with everything that happened with her mother they could move ahead and be in a relationship. He also hoped to know her as a person. Not that he lacked any understand of who she was as a human being but let's face it: they spent most of there time in the sack. He wanted to go beyond that. It was the only time that he cared to get to know a woman beyond just sex. Harper was worth it. She made him happy, and he hoped that he made her happy.

"Ok...how about I'll be there in 30 minutes?" he asked, grabbing his car keys

"I'll be waiting." She said softly and for the first time in a while, or what felt like a while, she smiled a soft smile and there was a flicker of light that came back to her eyes from that one smile. Because of him. "I'll see you soon Hawthorne. Bye." She hung up and then bounded up from her seat on the couch and grabbed the ice cream. She put it all away and dashed to the bathroom to try and bring back some color into her cheeks. The ice cream helped but her mouth and her face even still felt so cold from it since she practically devoured the entire carton. After a bit, she realized it was useless. If Hawthorne was at the funeral earlier today, he had seen her and saw that even with make up, she looked like hell. She hadn't slept in a week. She felt the most alive today after her call with him than she did all week and that's what kept her wired. So she went back to the living area and sat down on the couch, sitting back and resumed her movie. Waiting for him.

On the way over he parked outside the flower shop where he bought her the lilacs when he first went to her apartment...when all this started. Scratching his head he pondered about going in and getting her something. She been through hell...it would be inconsiderate to come empty handed. Might as well buy something before the place closes. He came up to her apartment and rang her doorbell, a bouquet of lilies in his hand.

Her head turned to the door when she heard the doorbell and she bit her lower lip. She paused her movie, just at the scene where Sam Coulson in Never Been Kissed comes to the baseball field where Josie Geller was waiting for him to come and kiss her. It was the end and he just approached her, just scooped her up in his arms and kissed her. That was where she paused it. Standing, she went to the door and looked through the peephole and saw Hawthorne's form on the other side, although a more fish-eye version. Unlocking the door and opening it, she stepped back and looked at Hawthorne and her eyes watered. She couldn't help it. She just pushed a smile onto her face, a real one but teary-eyed. "You came." She saw the lilies too and that made her smile more. He was finally here.

(I have never seen the movie)

He smiled when he saw her. Looking at her and how she smiled at him made him happy, teary eyed or not. He moved in and gently embraced her, flowers in hand

"Of course I did." he said. He embraced her for a good 5 seconds before pulling away

"These are for you...thought I'd bring something to cheer you up." he said smirking. His expression turned serious when he saw how pale she was, and the dark bags under her eyes. He gently held a hand up to her cheek.

"You look exhausted...have you been able to sleep at all?" he asked her

[Guess I totally just ruined it for you then xD]

It felt so good to be in his arms. She held on and was disappointed when he pulled back but she didn't press. Sniffling, she wiped her eyes with the back of her sleeve after accepting the flowers. "Thank you. Although I think you cheered me up faster when you appeared. With the flowers." She smiled slightly and stepped back to let him in before shutting the door and locking it. Turning to him, she stopped when his expression turned serious. She bit her lower lip and shook her head. "I managed maybe thirty minutes last night before something woke up. I think I was too distracted to sleep early on. The first few nights I was...too hysterical to sleep. I don't know." Truth was she knew why she couldn't sleep. It wasn't just because of her mother. It was also because he ruined sleep for her. It was impossible to sleep comfortably without his arms around her. He was way better than any mattress she slept on. "I slept earlier today after the funeral when I was my uncle's. But that was after he and his wife gave me a pretty strong sedative."

(Not a problem. I'm not that into romantic comedies anyway)

He nodded at her explanations. The poor girl lost her mother, of course she'd be emotionally distressed. He sat down on the couch next to her.

"So...I guess this is where we discuss where we are in our relationship." he started

"I just want to tell you that I'm done with the Manor and the mob, and I want to live honestly. I'm not sure what I'll do for employment...maybe I'll try being a lawyer again but it's likely that I won't be hired. I want you to know that I care for you and I want to know you more beyond just the sex..." he trailed off. Well...that was subtle

"...not that it wasn't great. It was the best...but I want to know you more. I know it's weird that a guy would say this. If this was a month ago and if you were any other woman I'd think I was crazy...but I'm not. You're worth it and I want nothing more than to make this work. But if I ever become a douchebag that causes you grief, know that you're free to end it." he finished

Harper's hands clasped together and moved between her legs, she squeezing them together. It was how she kept warm, not that she was particularly cold. It's sometimes just how she sat, given the circumstances of a situation and all. She listened as Hawthorne spoke and she nodded her head here and there. She was glad to know he was done with the Manor, that he wanted to something else than what he did already. She just kept hoping that it's what he really wanted and he wasn't just doing it for her sake. That it's what he too wanted. Because that's what she wanted. For him to do it because he wanted. Nothing more.

Then a small smile and blush came over her face and she nodded her head. She knew it was more than sex and she wanted more than sex too. Harper knew what he was saying. "I don't think anything would make me want to end it." She said softly. "But I want to try if you will let me, if you want to." She said softly. "Because for the record Hawthorne, I'd want you regardless of all of this, regardless of anything you did in life. I just want you."

He scooted over to her slowly and nodded at her words. He ran a hand up her arm and to her shoulder, soon cupping her cheek gently and kissing her lips softly.

"I want you too Harper" he said, gently running a finger through her hair.

"So...what do you want to do? Watch a movie? Have dinner?" he asked

Harper smiled at him and she kissed him back softly. She looked up at him into his eyes and smiled softly and nodded. There were a lot of things she wanted to do. But there was something in particular she wanted to do. "Do you want to cuddle?" She asked. "Just cuddle. Lie in bed together maybe?"

He chuckled a bit and nodded. He wanted to hold her...maybe kiss her a bit. He wasn't about to jump back into sex...but he wanted her companionship.

"I wouldn't mind doing that. I can stay overnight if you'd like" he said, smiling.

Her eyes lit up like they hadn't all week and she smiled a bigger, fuller and brighter smile. "I'd like that very much." Standing, she turned the TV and DVD player off and took his hand, leading him to her room. She shut down the rest of the apartment and turned the lights on in her room. Moving to the bed, she sat down on it, one leg dangling off the edge and the other tucked beneath her and under her leg. "Make yourself comfortable."

He nodded and soon took his shirt and pants off. He than moved to sit next to her, and planted a kiss on her cheek. Gently embracing her he laid down and took her down with him. He curled into her and gently ran his fingers through her hair, caressing her head gently like she liked. He gently kissed her jawline and her neck holding her close.

Harper smiled at him and she lay in bed with him curling her body into his, letting her leg entwine with his. She closed her eyes as started to rub her head. He remembered. She already felt her body and her mind relax immensely just from being in his presence and now? It was like she didn't have a worry. It was so strange how a connection with someone could make this remotely possible but it happened. She thought it was rare. She didn't think it was possible. But it was and here he was. Her hand moved around his cheek, her eyes half open and she leaned in and kissed him softly but then deepened it.

He gently caressed her scalp with his finger tips. He kneed her head gently, careful not to scratch at any point. Although he knew that he was turning into a softly, he didn't mind if it was for her. He groaned a bit in the kiss and chuckled a bit against her lips when she deepened it. Ok...he'd take the bait. He slowly slid his tongue past her lips, letting it gently knot with hers.

Harper loved that he rubbed her head the way he did. It was so comforting and so relaxing and it was exactly what she needed. He was exactly who she needed. A little giggle came from her and she let her tongue dance with his, her hand moving into his lovely and soft hair. She turned her body even more into his and moaned a little bit. She loved his lips. She loved being in his arms. It wouldn't be long probably until she fell asleep at this rate.

He smiled and broke the kiss.

"Let's move under the covers babe." he said, moving them up and maneuvering under them, opening them up for her.

"It's getting a bit cold you" he added

Harper moved under the blankets and she felt warm. Warmer than she already was. Not too hot-warm. But just warm. Comfortable. Relaxed. Turning into him, she kissed his cheek and then nuzzled her face into his neck. "I feel so much more warmer now." She closed her eyes and rest her head on his shoulder. Slow, even breathing. Closed eyes. It didn't take long for Harper to fall asleep. She didn't mean to fall asleep so quickly. But she was exhausted. He relaxed her. And she was just basically a goner.

Feeling her steady breath against his neck he smiled softly. He was happy that he helped her fall asleep. The poor girl was exhausted. Snuggling into her he gently caressed her back as he closed his eyes. Before long he was sleeping to, comfortable in her arms. He enjoyed the most sound sleep he had in a week, free of the duress that occurred during his week of hell.
