Shiva ached as she felts hands pulling her out of the car. They had just finished surfing on the Florida beach as the storm blew in. She could remember arguing with her mother about going to the party that night but after that her memory went fuzzy. Looking around, she notice a large blurry yellow blob was pulling her out of the car. Her ears finally registered the sirens and the fireman's voice but not their meaning. She could taste the bitter iron in her mouth as they pulled her into a large white and red blob which she presumed was an ambulance. Her head felt quite woozy but soon she was out like a light again.

Three days later...

Shiva woke to the soft sound of a television and a beeping sound that seemed as if it had intruded her dreams just hours before. Looking around, she realized that she was located in a hospital bed with a large blue curtain separating her from the sound of NCIS. "Hello?" she asked softly. When she received no answer she pressed the large red button on the remote by her hand. Soon enough a nurse came in,"Where am I?" she asked softly. She was promptly informed that she had been in an accident and was at St. Marys Hospital in Palm Beach, Florida. The nurse rambled on more but it just made Shiva feel dissy and confused so she started to tune her out. She didn't even catch the last bit about a social worker calling her father to come down and see her. As far as Shiva knew, her father was dead. Her mother had told her stories of him never loving them.

Brian had worked long hours to try to put everything he felt they wanted on the table, it was just never enough for his wife who left but the part that almost did kill him was the taking of his only child. How he would not see her grow up he mused for many nights after they left. The years were difficult to cope with at first especially around birthdays and christmas. Making him miss them more and more to the point of a two year breakdown before returning to work.

It was towards almost late evening as he sat in his office when the phone rang, the number displayed was for a different state and his mind quickly recalled that was where they had moved to. Picking up the phone he listened to the social worker, having to relay the message a few times to him before he told her that he would be there early the next afternoon. Leaving work he was soon home and packed driving the short distance towards the airport. Parking his car and buying his ticket he waited for an hour before boarding the plane for something he never believed could happen again.

Shiva felt as if she had been hit by a ton of bricks but every time she mentioned this, the nurse would nod and say 'Uh huh.' After the thirtieth 'uh huh,' Shiva was ready to rip the nurse head clean off. She had been told that she the van they had rented as T-boned a semi, which made all the aches in Shiva's bones makes since but the fact that Shiva was almost perfectly unscathed was quite a feat. She had three stitched on her right eyebrow where she had collided with the dashboard and a hairline shatter across her frontal skull that the doctors said would heal with time. They had scanned her through ten different machines, but nothing came out negative. She was driving the nurses bonkers by telling them she wanted a pen to play 'connect the dots' with all the bruises that she had received. The doctors worried because she claimed to have blurred vision and some memory loss, but it didnt seem as full blown amnesia. Most figured it was just a concussion and would recede with rest.

Brian slept for a little on the plane but his mind was filled with how much her mother must have told her about him. The stories must have been long and scary to someone so young as she was back then when they first left. As the plane touched down he took a few deep breaths before leaving it and collecting his two small pieces of luggage. Hailing a taxi for the hospital he was soon on his way hoping it was not a hoax.

Shiva managed to her hands on a mirror from the bathroom along with a back of essentials like soap, hairbrush, washcloth and such. Managing to clutter the iv pole and the heart monitor into the bathroom with her, she managed to work the new brush through her long shoulder length red hair. Her dark green eyes burned from behind the long locks as she had to intensely focus to be able to see straight. "You look like shirt." she told herself as she examined her skinny frame over powered by a paper nightgown the doctors insisted you wear.

She wondered where her mother was and why she hadnt come to see her. It seemed like it had been hours...days..possibly a month since she had seen her. Thinking about such things made her head hurt so she just stopped and headed back to bed. She managed to crawl back into the bed and get covered but after that she was wiped and soon slipped off into sleep.

Brian arrived at the hospital and casually entered the main foyer area. Stopping at one large desk he spoke to the nurse before being directed towards another floor. Oh yes the circle of finding what he wanted was already beginning he mused to himself as he took the elevator up. Stepping out onto the long narrow corridor the door was clearly marked, his head peeking in as he knocked loudly on it. A few brief words were spoken before the nurse left to check on her, returning to tell him she was currently sleeping. He would wait for her to wake as he took out the novel from his overnight bag, the other luggage resting underneath his chair.

Shiva woke after about an hour of sleep as her muscles started to tense up again. Looking around, she noticed that the nurse wasn't present so she started to try and take the IV out of her arm so she could roll over but as soon as she touched the thing the nurse walked through the door to check her vitals. After an argument over the IV coming out or staying in, Shiva was told that she had a vistor. Her hopes soared as she through that it might be her mother to finally see her.

The nurse left the room after recording her chart and told Brian that he was clear to see his daughter and that she was in room E41. Pointing him in the correct position before disappearing into her office.

Brian closed up his book putting it into the small side pocket of his bag only seconds before watching the nurse leave. Barely hearing the raised voices he smiled into the nurse's eyes as she gave him the answer he had been hoping for. Stretching a little he walked casually but nervously down the hallway to her room. Pausing at the door he stepped in slowly as he spoke. "Hello Shiva, do hope you remember your old man."

Shiva's head snapped around violently at the sound of a man's voice. She hadnt quite caught what he said, but she already didnt like him. She had always been hostile toward strangers as they made her nervous and her mother had told her horrible stories about what men did to woman that weren't wary. "Who the hell are you? What are you doing in my room? And how do you know my name?" she asked sharply as her green eyes squinted heavily, trying to make out more defining features of the man in the hallway. Her hand was already around the panic button on the remote incase.

Brian's blue eyes met hers as he listened to the sharp tongue and words coming straight at him. Stepping further into the room from behind his back came into view her old teddy bear along with a small book. Placing both on the bed close to her he spoke again. "Shiva I am your father, I can only imagine the stories you were told about me."

Shiva visibly jumped when she heard what he said. "W-what? N-no. Get out of here!" she said as she pressed the button beneath her finger that sent a notice to the nurses quarters that she needed immediate assistance. She grabbed the book and teddy bear and threw them both at Brain before the nurses came in and restrained her. Her heart monitor started to beep loudly as they tried to calm her while another nurse came into the room and tried to lead Brian out. "Maybe you should talk to the social worker first? Would you like me to show you to her room?"

Brian heard the stammered out words, his eyes watching her body twist and move just enough to avoid the book and teddy bear which hit the wall behind him. Following behind the nurse he barely heard her words nodding his head first before speaking. "Think that would be best right now to find out what is going here."

Shiva was calmed down and they got her in a relaxed form. The nurse lead Brian to the social workers office and told the secretary who he was. The social worker soon came out and lead Brian to her office. "You are Shiva's father? You should know that your daughter was in a pretty heavy wreckage. From what I heard, the mother died on contact and the daughter got a nice knock to the head. We were curious to find that she didn't even know she had a father but you were in the records as alive to we telephoned you as you are next of kin.

Brian followed behind the nurse before entering the small room to listen to the counsellor. He had gathered it was pretty bad by not just the first phone call but seeing his daughter in the bed. "Yes I am alive, lucky my ex wife placed me as next of kin. If I had a choice years ago my daughter would not have been in that car but can't change the past. What can I do to help her now"

"Well, by what the nurse paged me, it looks like you and her have much ground to cover. We want to keep here for a few days and that while give you some neutral territory to get to know each other, and then we will send you back home. There will be weekly meeting with an agent out there for her because she has been through a tramatic incident and we also wanna make sure she is comfortable around you." the woman said.

Brian listened to each of the counsellor's words, absorbing them and nodding to each. His blue eyes looked slightly past her towards the wall as he spoke. "Yes too much ground to cover and no telling how many lies she has been told about me."

Shiva got out of bed when the nurses left and made her way over to the disheveled book and teddy bear. Picking them up, she moved and put them in the guest chair before sitting back. It had only been ten minutes or so but she couldnt remember who had brought them to her. Her head felt heavy and fuzzy. Laying back down, she gently rubbed her forehead and closed her eyes, trying to remember.

Brian stood up and thanked the counselor before leaving the small room. Walking back towards the room he stopped to speak to one of the nurses briefly. Giving her some money he waited for her to return with the small orange juice and chocolate bar. His daughter had minor amnesia which he believed could be gotten over as he stopped at the door and glanced in. Bracing himself for another barrage he walked casually and slowly into the room before speaking softly. "Brought you something to drink and eat instead of that horrid food."

Shiva's eyes turned to the man that walked through the door and she tried to place him but it didnt quite work. "Were you the one that brought me the teddy bear?" she said but her eyes lingered over the chocolate. "Is that for me?" she asked excitedly. She was a major lover of chocolate. She hated orange juice so she paid it no heed but that chocolate looked delicious.

Brian listened to her questioning words noticing how attracted to the chocolate she was, moving closer to the bed he placed the chocolate into her lap as he spoke. "Yes I did bring the teddy bear to you and do enjoy the chocolate."

Shiva opened the chocolate and broke off a piece of the chocolate before giving him back the rest. "Thank you. I apologize, but I dont think I know you." she said softly, her eyes worried that he would be angry at her for making such a lowly mistake as to forget who he was.

Brian watched her break off some of the chocolate before trying to pass it back, moving the chair slightly closer to the bed he sat down on it. His eyes meeting hers as he spoke softly. "It has been a long time since we have chatted or spent time together, only natural to have forgotten me. You used to have lots of fun with me though."

"I am sorry. My mind is the most foggiest right now. Its like I was hit in the forehead by a freight train sometimes." she said as she watched him closely. "How long are we talking about?" she asked softly as she munched on more chocolate.

Brian listened to her words and nodded slightly as he watched her eat more of the chocolate, he wanted to cradle her in his arms but did not feel that right at this point in time. "It has been too many years actually. Sorry we have been apart but glad we can reconnect now."

"Well, its good that we are able to reconnect. Are you a friend of mothers?" Shiva asked as she finished off the chocolate. She was much more calm now that she had the tranqulizer and chocolate in her system. The anger in her eyes was gone but so was the sorrow that should still be there if she knew what kind of situation she was really in. With her mother dead, she was about to move in with a man that she hadn't seen for many many years.
