She smiled and let out a small giggle as his comment, "no I won't tell," she uttered. It was sweet that this moment would be memorable for him. It would be for her too. When the bright flash flashed over them, Kat pulled the tarp from their heads and saw the greatest sight as the rescue workers finally got to them. Kat sat up and was tended to by the paramedics. They made sure all her vitals were stable to move her and once everything was cleared, they helped her out of the concrete prison. The daylight was blinding and she shielded her eyes. She could hear some applause, then a familiar voice. It was her grandfather's. Kat rushed over to him and hugged him tightly. She was happy that she remembered him, but as she looked around at who stood next to him, she didn't recognize hardly anyone. The small crowd asked how she was doing, but Kat just stared, she couldn't remember if she knew this people or not. Finally the medics took her to the ambulance and informed her grandfather that she had to get a CAT scan because of her head wound.
The ride to the ambulance was surreal. It almost felt like she was dreaming. When they arrived at the hospital, Kat was seen to immediately and taken to get her head scanned. Her grandfather had met her there and sat in the exam room with her, waiting for the doctor to come in and tell them the news. "Grandfather, I need to tell you that the man that was trapped with me, well, he saved my life, if it wasn't for him, I don't know what would have happened to me." Her grandfather squeezed her hand gently, "yes, well Rick is a good man and I know that he's had a thing for you since meeting you. I am glad that he was there to care for you." Kat was caught off guard by her grandfather's response, apparently even he knew of Rick's feelings for her.
When the doctor came in, she looked at Kat, "well bad news is that you suffered some memory loss, but good news is that it seems temporary, it was primarily caused by the trauma and with time, you'll gain back your memories." Kat sighed with relief, she was happy to hear such great news. The doctor wrote her a prescription for the pain and gave her an otherwise clean bill of health. Her grandfather went to retrieve the town car to take her home as Kat stood in the waiting room. Before she left, she needed to find Rick. She asked a few nurses and they directed her to another exam room. She tapped lightly on the closed door, "Rick, are you in here?"
