RE: The Foxglove Valley [Isabelle x CitizenAnon]
Jason looked over the spread before him and felt quite content with it. He had freshly cleaned clothes on, but it was still the everyday farmer outfit of jeans, boots, a t-shirt, and his flannel. Why change a classic? Well, not until it was summer. Then the flannel would have to go.
Everything had started to fall into a routine between Ellie and himself. The days always started out the same with Ellie cooking breakfast. He had helped out the best he could once, but there was really only room for one cook in the kitchen and they just got in each others way! Besides, Ellie was the far superior cook.
Well, that was not true. She was the far superior everything when it came to household management. The house was clean! Not that it was really dirty before, but it was not quite spic and span. It was now! The furniture had been polished and no longer looked quite as beat up. She had even managed to get the stains out of the wood. How had she managed that? Jason had not asked and just assumed it was magic of some sort. Since it had become obvious that she was staying through the first season at a minimum (Jason was considering asking her to stay longer at this point), they had cleared out the old storage closet. It was not large and roomy, but it was enough for Ellie to have privacy and have a place to sleep.
There was a bedroll in the corner that he had dug out as well as all the extra blankets and pillows he could muster to make sure everything had been comfortable. It may have just been a bedroll, but it was better than sleeping on the couch. The room was only about ten feet deep and six feet wide. Plenty of room for such a petite young woman!
"That smells wonderful, Ellie." Jason said and was reaching for her hands for grace when there was a knock on the door. "Go ahead and get started, Ellie. I'll get it."
Jason placed his napkin on the table and quickly crossed the room to the door. He cracked it open and glanced out. Before him was Mayor Felix! The man was strangely dressed with tight black pants, a wide red belt, and a green vest over a white button up shirt. He had thick blonde hair with a fantastic beard. All of this was topped with a felt top hat with a gold and red ribbon.
"JASON!" Felix called out. The man always seemed to be excited about something. Felix's voice was deep and very, very robust. It seemed to completely fill the farm house as he spoke. "I JUST WANTED TO REMIND YOU ABOUT THE FLOWER FESTIVAL TOMORROW. AS HARVEST KING YOU HAVE TO TAKE PART IN THE FESTIVITIES. YOU'LL BE EXPECTED TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE EVENT, PRESENT THE WINNER WITH HER AWARD, AND YOU WILL HAVE THE FIRST DANCE WITH HER." Jason nodded a bit, having known that from the first time Jason had come by to tell him five years ago. "DO YOU NEED ME TO TELL YOU AGAIN?"
Jason shook his head, "No, thank you Mr. Mayor. I got it."
"OKAY. MEET ME AT THE FESTIVAL GROUNDS AT..."
"Noon." Jason finished for the Mayor and gave the man a smile, "I know, sir. I'll meet you there. I'll even bring a new comer. Now, I've got to get back to breakfast..."
"OKAY, SONNY. GET BACK TO WORK. I WILL SEE YOU AT THE FESTIVAL."
Jason closed the door and turned back to Ellie at the table. He was glad Felix had come by to remind him, but couldn't the man speak normally?
"That was the Mayor." Jason explained to Ellie and wondered how to explain his boisterous nature. "He's... quite unique."
