Story thread there: http://www.bluemoonroleplaying.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=12020

I just want to know if anyone is interested in this idea. The world it's based off of is a fantasy world for a novel I've had in the works since I was five. I'm not putting in the acutal story or the characters, just the setting and the boiling point. If i get enough people interested, I'd like to do this as an open roleplay.

Basic story:

There are four kingdoms involved. Anstaria (situated in the middle of the map) has been at war for as long as anyone could remember with Loidi. The two kingdoms seemed to always butt heads, no matter the topic. Anstaria believed in protecting its women, while Loidi gave theirs more freedoms. Anstaria was pro-science and anti-magic, and Loidi still put stock in court wizards and healers. War tore the two kingdoms apart and the strain finally got to the respective kings.

Calling on a truce meeting, they invited two moderators from neighboring kingdoms. For Anstaria, the kingdom of Danbar is invited, their allies in the south. For Loidi, it was a surprise when they arrived with delegates from Goldspar, a warring kingdom to the far north that is in a constant state of politica upheaval. Both mediators have reasons for the status quo to continue and keep the truce from being signed.

The Kingdoms:

Anstaria (Anstarians)

This is the most rigid kingdom of the four kingdoms. As the loser of the long-ago war that started this mess, they took several steps to never have that problem. After the end of the Hexen wars, Anstaria outlawed magic in all forms. They formed the Ritter Hex, special knights who hunt down any rumors of magic in the boundaries of the kingdom and erradicate it. They are the toughest warriors, and the products of nightmares. After the break of the kingdom, causing the princess to run off with a wizard and forming her own land of Hekata, the ruling Anstarian king had a wall built around the kingdom to keep out the evil influences of the other kingdoms. In time, only Danbar and a few other select kingdoms were let inside.

Women do not have much freedom. They must, at all times, be escorted when they leave. The women's quarters are always found away from the men unless he calls for his wife. A woman can own land if her husband is dead, but it is highly advisable for her to remarry quickly. The poor have more freedom then nobility, where women can work beside her husband and even have the run of the home.

Anstaria is ruled by the king and his son. The daughter is prized by her family and knows she will never inherit the throne and a perfect marriage is one that wouldn't jeopedize the throne of her homeland.

Loidi (Loidites)

The near polar opposite of Anstaria. As the winner of the Hexen War, they enjoy the magic and prestigue of their victory. They are very pro-magic, more so then any other kingdom. Magic is a way of life, and they look down on the Anstarians for their superstition (who, in turn, look down on the Loidites for being agents of evil). Through magic, they claim to be able to do anything that the science of Anstaria can do. When the idea of the truce came through, the prince of Loidi saw it as a great way to gain control over their enemies once he found out about the princess. However, he isn't stingy on how he gets to the Anstarian throne and is willing to settle, if need be, on using magic to get them to give up their kingdom and end the fighting.

Women in Loidi are equal to the men. They have the same freedoms as the men. They can own land and trade property and even fight in the army. They have a chance to get as much education as a man.

The ruling family of Loidi is the king, queen, the elder son and the younger son (who is training to be a wizard) and the uncle.

Danbar (Danbarians)

This kingdom has enjoyed exclusive trading rights with Anstaria. A kingdom that does rely on magic, but enjoys the scientific advances of Anstaria. Their women have some freedoms, but not as much as Loidi. The women can own land and property, but their education is restricted and it is encouraged that they marry and stay with a man for protection.

Goldspar (Goldsparites)

This kingdom is untrustworthy. Always in a political upheaval, they have a new ruling party nearly every year. Magic and assassinations are the norm. They are greedy and manipulative. The current ruler wants the rich land of Loidi, but will take Anstaria if they can. To get this, they are hoping to convince the two kingdoms that peace is out of the question, and pitting the delegates and hormonally driven heirs against each other seems to be a good idea.

Gavin - Anstaria

He is the heir to the throne and the only son of his father. As the heir, he is very active in the politics of the throne and has a hatred of the Loidites. He doesn't trust the truce, believing that they are trying to steal all of Anstaria's secrets and corrupt the women. His parania is further advanced by the fact that his sister is now in the open, pushed into the eyes of the foreigners. He believes it's his duty to make sure his sister, and his kingdom, remain pure.

He has dark red hair and deep blue eyes, a muscular body from hours of sword practice and a quick mind. He is overly protective of what he views as his.

Dione - Anstaria

She's the princess, and often viewed as just a pretty face. Curious by nature, she used to sneak out to listen to her brother's politics lessons. He took pity on her and taught her how to read, often looking the other way when she borrows books that are too intellectual for a woman to understand, or too intense. But, with the truce negotiations going on, she finds her small freedoms being curtailed. Her curiostity might get her in trouble.

She shares her brother's dark red hair and deep blue eyes. She has lithe body and a vulnerable air, too sheltered to fully understand the dangers of those around her.

Interested, yes. Right away I started thinking of one of my old characters, Lord Martinez, who would fit in as a noble in Anstaria pretty well, based on what you have right there. Course, there were other angles that came to mind. And that sort of nervous point is a wonderful situationf or me to mess around.

If you guys want, either send me the bio or post them here so I can start filling in the characters.

Skelace's character's bio

Deston - Lodi

As the youngest prince of Lodi he has almost no shot at becoming the ruler of the country nor does he wish to be. His skills in magic have been honed and skilled in the arts of war. His dreams of becoming the strongest wizard in the world come closer and closer everyday, as he lets the power of magic take over his body. As the youngest he was normally passed over in all things thus he always was trying to prove himself. He never backs down from anything and will talk his way right into a hole he can not easily get out of.

He is a bit short for his age, with bright red hair. He has very nimble and small hands. His will to do everything and anything does a bad job of covering up his insecurities of being no good and useless.

As you wish Miss Strawberry:

Lord Martinez -
Race/Nationality: Human, Anstaria
Age: 37
Profession: Merchant Lord
Status: Noveau Rich, self made noble
Physical Description: Lord Jaren Alaan Martinez stands at 5'2", and a slight 90 lbs, leaving him frail and small compared to many other nobles, particularly those of warrior descents which has given him quite a complex. This view as weak, and slightly effeminate by those of a more masculine background is only furthered by the Lord's desire to make himself what he considers presentable. His brown hair is often elaborately styled to whatever is the current fashion within Court, his skin kept pale and smooth by his time indoors and peculiar regimens to maintain his youth. Jaren typically wears fine clothing when out on deligations, at court, or at home. Typically he prefers darker colors, reds, purples, blues, greens, and usually gold or black trim and embroidery. He seldom wears the same thing twice, not wanting to fuel rumors that his clan has fallen upon hard times. Jewelry almost always accompanies his outfits, in particular he usually wears a Clan Ring, a signet of his merchant clan used to seal missives, and a simple bronze ring, without engraving or setting on his right middle finger.
History: Lord Jaren Alaan Martinez hails from the Martinez Merchant Clan. His clan has been the owners and laborers of a small mining operation for several decades, pulling low grade, common ores out of the ground. This ended with Jaren's parents. His generation found a new vien of high quality ores, and Jaren's parents created a new method to mine out this previously unreachable bit, bringing the Martinez clan greater wealth. A meritocracy at its heart, the Clan rewarded their inventiveness by making them the defacto rulers of the people, the mine, and thier new wealth. His parents were simpler folk than him, growing up in the mines. They used their wealth and influence to buy up other claims nearby, both rich and poor, trying to consolidate a grip on the area's production.
Jaren was very different. He grew up in the sunlight, on trips with his parents to broker deals with merchants and other mining clans. He grew up surrounded by deeds, words, ink and quills. He was one of the most learned in his clan, one of the first truly literate to come out of the lot. He excelled at maths, literature, and sciences, always asking questions and seeking out answers to questions that people around him hardly ever thought to ask of. He grew up slight, so different from the large, burly, broken miners of his clan that he was often teased and bullied as a child. He learned to deal with it in time, finding out that for but a bit of the wealth he had at his disposal he could usually hire the largest, toughest kid to keep those who would mess with him away from him. He realized anything could be bought, men, women, land, metal, even rank and privledge.
As a teenager he took over for his parents. He was more predatory than they were, not content just to buy up a few more mining claims or contact a few more metal merchants. He invested in many different things, artisans and craftmen, merchant caravans of his own to far away locales, buying up land for everything from agriculture to elaborate villas. He even used his wealth and connections to quite literally buy a title of nobility from the kingdom, with the rights and privledges it came with in return for several legions being supplied by his clan.
His ambitions are much greater though. He has raised his own group, sellswords and scum willing to act as his own "honor guard" at court and on expeditions. He dreams of one day attaining the crown himself, though he would never plot assassination or open rebellion. Deal making, bribes, trade, these are his tools. Never has the Lord Martinez been known to consort with the darker sides of life as a noble.
Or at least, he's never been caught.

Hmm, Goldspire or the Uncle in Loidi. Either one seems like a position I could do.

Though Goldspire may be more my taste.

Crazy Shank's bio

Alastor - Loidi

Alastor is the Uncle of the two princes in the Kingdom of Loidi. He and his youngest nephew have a better bond than he and his eldest one. Being part of the council he thinks that the truce just might help them win or survive the war. He will do anything that will help him and his noble family to stay in power even if that means to kill off a few people that will stop that. Since his brother was training to be a fight he decides to become a High Mage. With the training of the other Mages and forbidden magic that he found he is know one of the best in the land.

Alastor has dark green long hair that comes down to his middle neck. He stands about 6'4' and weights about 189 lbs from his cut body that he developed over the years. Has nice yellow eyes that show that he is pretty good in the magic area. Not like the other Mages he wears dark green armor that is enchanted with magic to make it not as heavey.

I'm interested but The only char I have is a female warrior type. Not sure where she'd fit.

A female warrior could be in Loidi or Goldspar as a bodyguard or personal soldier. They're the only two kingdoms that I can see allowing a woman in the military ranks.

Lady Masako -
Race/Nationality: Allurin, Goldspar (Half-Succubus, Half-Human)
Age: 25?
Profession: Soldier, Weaponsmith
Status: Baroness
Physical Description: Tall, (6'5"), Statuesque, Long blonde hair, Aqua blue eyes with a ring of orange-red around the edge of the Iris, Tan skintones, Huge Breasts.

Is she more of a lady of nobility or more of a warrior?

More of a warrior, with a noble rank earned through both connections and by sword (something akin to a knight perhaps)

"Hedge" is typically used in Fantasy to describe someone of minor talent who achieves a level of noteriety out in the sticks, but would be a nothing in more settled lands. See: Hedge Wizards, usually described as being more akin to herbalists with hokey rituals, maybe a few bits of "Real" magic, quiet weak compared to a court wizard but still useful. Out in the sticks they might be the only real mage of any type nearby, and thus have a level of respect and power they wouldn't have anywhere else.

Hedge knights are pretty much the same. Impoverished nobles, usually out in the sticks. Usually with few possessions compared to the lords at court. They might only own a couple dozen acres of land, a manor house, not a castle, a few horses and some old arms and armor. But when it comes down to it, it's a knight still. And a noble, and he serves a role of importance out there far beyond his meager means would qualify him for in civilized lands.

That would work for Goldspar, thanks Arc! Since that kingdom is almost always squabbling over the throne and loyalties change, an impoverished noble working as a knight for the current ruler would be perfect.

So, question: You clearly said that Anstaria is a technological kingdom, eschewing magic. In fact it suggests they are fairly advanced since they can afford to trade technology to others. Just what sort of "Technology" are we talking about here?

Could she be a legitimate claim to the throne of Goldspar but nobody wants to recognize it due to the fact she's not entirely human?

Mainly weapons, better armor, some civilized things like a better indoor plumbing and heating systems. They also have more modern farming and are working on better ways to travel faster. Nothing too scifi.

Goldspar is in continual upheavel as nobles squabble over the throne. Half the nobility has legitimate claim, it's all about who grabs it and holds on to it longest.
