Well ladies and gents! The time is nigh for all hell to break loose in Gotham City and/or the DCU.
FIRST!
Obviously this is where you will post your character profile.
Also, OOC chatter for working with other characters here.
A few things you should know...
It's good etiquette to check up with me or the other players you will be affecting before barging in with a post. Although random occurances are not frowned upon.
On characters:
Canon/Established characters will be filled on a first come first serve basis. As for OC's, I am not against anyone twisting the DC lore to fullfill a character's background or plot. If this applies to established characters, then it's up to the parties involved to sort anything out for the sake of continuity.
Rules?
This whole shebang is largely informal and fun-based. I encourage everyone to have fun, and would love to see how plots change and progress depending on everyone's input. Setting up plots, scenarious, and working together can be discussed OOC for character's working together for some awesome event and is also encouraged. Once I get a good core member of people involved, I'll make a Group RP thread with the following starter (And probably first post in character.) SO PLEASE JOIN UP AND get at me to get this started and hopefully grow exponentially
GCPD helicopter's patrolled the skyline along the harbor. Glaring spotlights hastily searched and anyone who was listening on the Police Scanner would no doubt hear about just which criminal was doing what and why helicopters had to be sent in to search. Gunshots rang out, police sirens and panicked screams echoed from the dock. The distant lurch from the horn of a ship coming in did nothing to ease the atmosphre. Going inland, one would find themselve's within Gotham's lower east side, home to the infamous dregs of society Gotham was known for. The infrastructure of the environment was in the pits, and in their current state, showed no signs of being updated any time soon. Gunstores, liquorstores, adult stores, and theatres you name it, it was all there along with a yummy populace of drug dealers, pimps, and whores.
If one were to come from the west they would encounter the beautiful suburban distract, home to countless victims of crime, and weary shelter away from the troubles of lower-economic class. Many unsolved murders, bodies, drugs, and other varieties of mayhem could also be found here. Their presence much more jarring and questionable then those found in Crime Alley. Populating much of the west, southwest, and central parts of Gotham it still found no escape from the reaching arms of crime. Not only that, but the heart of Gotham's corrupt police force resided in this area.
Along the central and northern parts; all the way up to the tip, would be Gotham's socialites. From the city infrastructure one would find the heart of Gotham. From high-class designer stores, diners, theatres, EVERYTHING could be found in the more fast paced environment of the city. In this region were the seediest stories of Gotham outside of Crime Alley to the south. You had wild sex parties and orgies ranging from the back of a taxi cab to the crazy debauched parties filled with sex, drugs, and rock n'roll. Combined with the extravegant life of Gotham's elite in Sport's stadiums, bars, clubs, lounges; you look anywhere in Gotham and you would find it. Travel cautiously in this fun-filled district though, just like the rest of Gotham this area was not only controlled by the paid Police and the apex predators of the criminal hiearchy, but a whole new threat presented itself in the city and the fabulous Mansions in the form of Politicians.
With such a large city completely ruled and engulfed in crime, it was no strange thing that a bright light illuminated Gotham's night sky. A single beacon of hope admidst all the darkness. The legendary emblem of the Bat shown mercilessly from atop the GCPD building.
According to Gotham's board of tourism, a Norwegian mercenary founded Gotham City and the British later took it over—a story that parallels the founding of New York by the Dutch (as New Amsterdam) and later takeover by the British. During the American Revolutionary War, Gotham City was the site of a major battle. Rumors held it to be the site of various occult rites. Historian Bill Willingham expanded upon Gotham's occult heritage by depicting a being who has slept for 40,000 years beneath the land upon which Gotham City was built. Strega, the being's servant, says that the "dark and often cursed character" of the city was influenced by the being who now uses the name "Doctor Gotham." Tobias Whale claims that 19th century Gotham was run by five rival gangs, until the first "masks" appeared, eventually forming a gang of their own. It is not clear if these were vigilantes or costumed criminals.
Many events have added more to Gotham's history, at the same time greatly affecting the city and its people. Perhaps the greatest in impact was a long set of serial supercrimes, which started with Ra's al Ghul releasing a debilitating virus called the "Clench" during the early 90's. As that epidemic wrapped, the city was beginning to recover, only to suffer an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter Scale at the beginning of the millenium. This resulted in the federal government cutting Gotham off from the rest of the United States in declaration of No Man's Land in a State of Emergency. The result suggested a harder city with a more resilient, resourceful, and cynical populace; a more dramatic and varied architecture; and more growth possibilities by attributing new locales to the rebuilding of the city.
