The man holding onto the chains quickly dropped them as the sword came at him and began to slice at his flesh. His friend let out a shout as the sword cut at his body in turn. All too quickly, he ran away leaving his friend behind to suffer the consequences of his actions. After all, he'd tried to warn him of the look he'd seen forming in the man's eyes. It wasn't his fault he'd decided to shrug it off. "Where are you going?" the one man shouted as his friend ran off, not once looking back. "Traitor! I'll get you later!" He then turned back toward the man with the sword. But it was no use. He was no match for him, especially now that he was alone. For good measure, he threw in a lucky punch that managed to connect to an arm. But it was a sad attempt at best. He was outmatched and alone and, to make matters worse, a small crowd of onlookers was gathering to watch the scuffle.

Kelly watched excitedly from his little hiding spot in the shadows. This had been a most interesting scene indeed thus far. He'd definitely have to find out more about the girl who'd been the center of so much attention. Who knew chains on a woman could bring out the beast in men?! Such primitives indeed.

Alice looked up at the dignified man who was helping her. She was grateful that he'd arrived when he had, that he'd broken off some of the chains, not to mention the hold the one man had on her only moments ago. He truly was her savior and never had she felt safer than she did right then. It was a miracle he'd found her and she would do whatever she could to repay him for his kindness. "Thank you," she said softly while trying to stay out of his way so he could take care of the awful man who'd tried to take her away with him.

Gen smiled as the young man spoke of his foster brothers. She was glad that he was interested in attending her show and that he seemed enthusiastic at the idea of inviting his family along as well. It was nice to know that others were interested in what she did and shared in the excitement of it all. It made the atmosphere happy and bubbly and with the colder months fast approaching, it was good to be in such high and festive spirits.

As the two continued their conversation, the older male from earlier approached causing the younger one to get flustered. Gen couldn't help but giggle softly as they interacted. She had to admit it made her slightly envious to see such a display. She wished her own family life had been like that--happy, fun. But sadly, hers had been far from that. It was one she hoped to never revisit or return to. It was why she vowed to never return to Uscat, not unless she knew for certain that both her father and ex-boyfriend were dead.

Giggling softly, Gen looked at the young man after the older one left. "Well, I'd love to join you for dinner. Do you live here in Inalt?" she asked him. "I will have to speak to our ringmaster, Louis Kraven, though before I go anywhere. Just so he's aware I've ventured anywhere too far. We have a show tomorrow night. And I have to practice some tomorrow."

Gen also needed to speak to Louis about whether or not the rumors she'd heard about the carnival traveling to Uscat were indeed true. She knew the carnival had indeed avoided the city over the past year because of her... but the troupe couldn't avoid the place forever over a single member. She knew that. But it would mean she'd have to stay behind in Inalt for that time and meet back up with them afterwards.

"By the way, my name is Genevieve Marist. Though please, call me Gen," Gen then said, still smiling warmly at the man.

"My dad and two brother's live in Munte I travel around but in the end I usually end up back at their house eventually" ,he began after she asked if they lived in Inalt. "I can go with you to talk to your ringmaster so he knows who you're with" ,he continued giving the woman another smile. When the woman told him her name he held out his hand, "Well Gen my name is Jasper Reigns but you can call me Jasper". It had been a while since the man had spoke with anyone other then merchants or his family so it was nice to finally be able to meet someone he felt he clicked with right off the bat, the woman was kind and he could tell she was a good person, someone he could definitely get along well with.

"Ah, Munte," Gen replied as she nodded. She'd been there once before nearly a year ago. "I've been there once, about a year ago now... the city in the mountains. It's not too far from here, if I'm remembering correctly." She smiled at Jasper as she recalled her time there. "We didn't bring the wagons up there since it's difficult traveling with the lot of them so we just do our shows here in Inalt. But the city is only a few hours away by foot, less if you go on horseback or have a ship." She giggled a little. "Anyway, I remember a few of us traveling up there to spread the word about our show. A few spent the night..." Just then she laughed rather heartily. "I remember Louis getting rather mad at one of the performers because he'd had a little too much fun at one of your local pubs up there."

Gen looked at Jasper, her lips still turned upward into a smile. She pulled at her shawl a little as the wind suddenly blew causing her to shiver. Looking down at the fliers she held in her hand she smiled a bit more broadly. She definitely liked the idea of going to dinner with Jasper, getting to know him better, meeting his family--even if they seemed a bit rambunctious, she definitely needed the diversion--and the idea of spreading the word about the circus in Munte would be an added bonus.

"Anyway, I'll definitely join you. Though yes, I will have to speak to Louis first. I know he won't mind, he'll just want to be aware of where I am. He sort of looks out for me and as a performer, he'll want to know where I am and when I'll be back for practice since we do have a show tomorrow night." Gen giggled a bit and led Jasper over toward the gates of Inalt where Louis and several others were resting and relaxing. The wagons were situated in a semicircle on the outskirts of the square itself.

Louis stood outside his wagon, his hand resting against the neck of his horse as he pet him. He looked up the moment he saw Gen and her friend and rushed over to meet them. "Hello, hello, Louis Kraven!" he exclaimed in a playfully dramatic tone causing Gen to giggle a bit. He gave a bow and extended his hand to the young man escorting the young girl.

Gen looked over at Louis and smiled. "Louis, I'm going to be heading to Munte for dinner this evening with my new friend here, Jasper Reigns. I'll bring some fliers for the circus to help spread the word of our arrival and our upcoming shows while I'm there."

"Excellent, excellent, always thinking. That's our Gen," Louis stated with a grin and a wink. "You truly have been a marvelous asset to our carnival of delights, my dear. A marvel indeed, not to mention a rare beauty."

Immediately, Gen blushed. "Louis," she whispered harshly before biting down on her lip.

"Ah, I'm afraid I embarrassed the young lass here. But then, old men such as me have a tendency to do such things to young beauties such as our Gen." He reached out and placed his arm around the dark-haired girl and hugged her as a father would. Though Gen was slightly embarrassed, a part of her secretly liked the behavior. Her own father back in Uscat would have either hit her or tried worse. So ultimately she welcomed this behavior, cherished it even though she pretended that she felt otherwise. On the inside, she loved every moment and she knew deep down Louis understood this. It was why the old man never once relented. "Anyhow, you go have fun. Though, once back, we will have to discuss our upcoming travels. There are some things we will need to discuss."

Gen nodded, her thoughts suddenly going dark, somber. She knew exactly what Louis was referring to... the carnival would be going to Uscat.

Jasper followed the woman to the gates and when they got to the carriages and the man extended his hand Jasper immediately took it and smiled politely, "Pleasure to meet you sir" ,he stated with a small bow of his head. He listened as the two spoke and smiled as Louis complimented Gen, it seemed as if the two had a relationship similar to he and Chadwick's, not blood related but still family none the less. When the man finished talking Jasper gave him another smile, "I promise to take good care of her sir" ,he promised.

"Alright if we're quick enough we should be able to catch Chadwick before he leaves, he has means of travel to get us to Munte quicker" ,Jasper told Gen. He then led the way past the gates and towards the area where he knew Chadwick would be. Luckily the man was still there and had enough room on his ship. When Jasper reached Chadwick he tapped the man on the shoulder to get his attention, "Hey dad Gen has decided to join us for dinner do you mind if we catch a ride with you?" ,Jasper asked.

Chadwick gave Jasper a huge smile, "Of course you guys can catch a ride with me I'd hate to make you walk all the way to the house that would just be a waste of time and tiring for both of you" ,he said in response to Jasper's question. "Just help me get all this stuff into the storage compartment then we can head home".

Jasper being the man he was didn't hesitate with packing the supplies onto the ship he even made sure to grab all the heavier stuff so Chadwick didn't have to. When the two men finally got everything on to the ship Chadwick began to get it ready to take off and when he was done he got into the ship and waited for Jasper and Gen to get inside before he started getting everything inside ready to take off.

Gen gave Louis a peck on the cheek and waved good bye to him as she followed Jasper to where he knew Chadwick would be. Once outside the gates of Inalt, she sucked in a sharp breath at the sight of airship mounted across the way in the wastelands. She had missed seeing it earlier upon her arrival into the city because she'd been inside her wagon, but now that she was outside and walking out in the open, the ship was in full view for her to see. It was quite a sight to behold. Though she'd seen several back in Uscat, none of the ones there were quite as nice as this one. But that was more than likely due to the rugged terrain and weather of the desert city.

As Gen followed Jasper to Chadwick's airship, she smiled at the man graciously. She was glad to be joining them all for dinner. It would definitely be a nice diversion for the night and she was happy to be making some new friends as well. Wanting to help out, she also helped both men pack some of the supplies on board before they readied everything to leave for Munte. Once everything was on board and everyone seemed settled, she found herself getting a bit giddy at the notion of a tiny trip. She knew it would be fun and probably full of the unexpected if half the things Jasper told her were true. But knowing she'd be having to discuss the carnival's travels to Uscat later on with Louis made her long for such an evening all the more.

"I'm ready when you both are," Gen said with a smile. She tugged on her shawl a bit as a breeze blew and then giggled. "No doubt the evening should be fun."

As soon as everything was packed in and everyone was settled Chadwick flew the ship towards Munte. Jasper took a seat and looked towards Gen, "The evening should be fun fir me going to the Hughes house is always pretty entertaining" ,he stated with a smile. It had been a while since Jasper had visited his family so he was excited to see everyone and wondered if anything had changed at all since he last visited.

Gen smiled at Jasper as he sat down next to her on board Chadwick's airship. She'd never actually been on board one and she was a bit nervous, this being her first time. She wondered what the trip would be like even though it would be a relatively short one given the distance it typically took to travel via airship from Inalt to Munte. Certainly, it would be an interesting and exciting one regardless and she was also looking forward to her evening and dinner.

"I'm sure it will be. I'm looking forward to it as well," Gen then said, still smiling at Jasper as she gave her shawl another tug.

Charlie felt her breathing come easier, her pulse ever so slightly begin to slow as the streets of the Slums opened up into the square. She still didn't like being out and about, but she felt better being out of the rougher section of town. It also meant she'd be home sooner than later and that was always a good thing as far as she was concerned. As she walked through the square she noticed a few scuffles, but she did her best to avoid those at all costs. She had absolutely no intention of getting involved in any of that nonsense if she could help it. As it was, she was already at enough risk dealing with the sorts of things her father worked on daily in his labs at her home. Every day was a risk. She didn't need any more.

As Charlie continued to make her way through the square, she noticed a few fliers strewn about. She arched a brow and grinned when she realized the carnival was in town. They always came around this time of year. Overall, she had nothing against them, but it definitely wasn't for her--life on the road, performing in front of large crowds. No. Not for her at all. Who knew what sorts would be watching and waiting. A shiver ran along her spine as her mind went over the worst of possibilities.

A breeze blew and Charlie clutched her things to her chest. "Damn," she grumbled, wishing she were home already. She knew her father was probably still in his lab doing who knew what. But she knew he'd be happy to see her, especially since she had his items. Letting out a sigh, she shuddered a bit and quickened her pace as she headed toward her home.

Leo expected the man to flee for his life as indeed his friend did. He expected him to let out a few curses and spit on the ground. But he didn’t expect the punch and had it been a weapon he probably would have brought up his sword. It was however and he just took the punch only to whistle loudly as two or three arrows flew through the air to knick or impale the man where he stood. His squad was moving in to take the man down but first needed to slow him down. Leo at this point knew things were all done as his men came past him. Turning he locked his eyes onto Alice and smiled warmly. “I’m sorry you had to deal with the less… dignified men of this city.”

Leo turned once to check on the arrest before giving Alice his full attention. “I’m Leo Silverra Captain of the city’s guard. I hope you can find it within yourself to trust me to help you.” Holding out one hand to Alice he pulled a small whistle from his pocket. Bringing it to his lips he sucked in a large breath and blew hard but no audible sound came out. There was a loud screech that sounded like it came from a bird of prey. Heads turned to the skies as they knew what was coming and they began to clear a large circle. Leo walked into this circle however ignoring the citizens that backed away.

It was then after everyone had moved away save for Leo and Alice that a large sea hawk came into view above as it circled a few times. It blocked out the sun if you were standing in the right place. It let out another screech and swooped in landing in front of Leo gracefully. He turned back to Alice and smiled. “This is Princess. Although her size and imposing stare doesn’t make her seem much like royalty or ladylike.” As if the bird understood him she glared down on him. Which Leo returned with a sheepish smile.

Leo turned again to Alice and bowed a little. “And what is your name miss?”

Alice smiled at her rescuer, she then averted her eyes as he introduced himself--something she did out of habit. She then looked back up at him, her eyes showing him her trust as she reached back and took his extended hand with her own. His hand was warm and large and she immediately moved closer so as to get farther away from the scuffle of the arrest, not to mention the stares of the onlookers.

"Thank you, Mr. Silverra," Alice said softly.

Suddenly, a large bird swooped in causing Alice to shiver slightly. But her fears were soon laid to rest when she noticed Mr. Silverra seemed at ease in its presence and began to slowly approach it. It was then that she realized he's summoned the creature, called it to them. He addressed the bird and introduced it to her. Immediately, she gave the bird a nod of acknowledgment along with a smile. She then turned back toward her rescuer, shifting her stance so that she was a bit closer to him.

"My name is Alice Boswell and... I trust you with all that I am. I am in your debt forever for what you have done for me, sir." Alice's hold on her rescuer's hand was firm, showing just how much trust she had for him and that she planned on going nowhere except where he instructed. "I'm not from these parts. I'm not even sure where exactly I am, sir," she then admitted as her cheeks turned a bit red. "I come from the island of Inchisoare. It's rather far from here."

Kelly arched a brow as he listened in, a smirk growing on his face as he slunk back into the shadows and made to wander off. Inchisoare... he'd never heard of the place. He'd definitely have to find out more about it though. It was clear that they kept their women enslaved. He wondered if they did the same to their men. It was definitely fascinating, peculiar. Ah the customs he was learning about just by watching people! He definitely had some stories to tell the others.

Leo noticed her slight startled response to the bird. He didn't know if it was just natural fear to such a large bird or that it was something she wasn't used to. Where she came from made him think more so that seeing a saddled bird. "Well Ms. Alice it’s a pleasure to meet you despite the circumstances. No need to feel indebted to me it’s merely my job to protect the innocent from the dangers of the city." His curious nature made him want to inquire further into her history. "Did they not have sea hawks where you’re from? And I don't mean to pry too much but who was such a monster to put you into chains?"

Leo grabbed the blunt end of his sword and took her chained hands into his. He found the bolts and pulled back his hand. "Don't move I don't want to cut you." He slammed the sword down on the bolts and it snapped right off. Repeating the same process to her hands and feet most of the restrictions were lifted. "I'm not too sure about repeating the same process to your neck. Do you mind it being on until we arrive at my home?"

Leo let out a sound that resemble something close to a type of double click with his tongue. The large sea eagle laid out its wings making a slope onto its back. He walked halfway up the wings and turned back and held out his hand. "Ready for one the best ride in the skies? I promise to make it as dangerous and fun as possible." He smiled brightly hoping she didn't fear a little adventure in her life.

Alice stayed still as Leo cut off most of her chains. She was extremely grateful, her eyes and expression saying as much as she looked at him. "Thank you, Mr. Silverra," she spoke softly, giving him a nod to show her gratitude. Her one hand then went to the chain about her neck and she gave him another nod of understanding. "This one can wait, you've already been so very kind and done more for me than anyone I've ever known." Her eyes watered slightly for she never knew kindness of the likes that he was showing her, kindness that seemed to come so easily and naturally. Truly, this left her in awe to learn that men were capable of such mannerisms and behavior. It restored her faith and hope entirely.

When Leo motioned for Alice to follow him toward the bird, she did so without hesitation. After everything he'd done, she'd never question his actions for she'd know in her heart that his reasons would be noble. And that was enough for her. This display was proof enough and anyone saying differently would never be able to convince her otherwise. Not ever.

Alice then placed her hand in Leo's and smiled. "I'm ready, Mr. Silverra," she answered as she moved to climb onto Princess' back along with him. She was a bit afraid, but being with Leo, she knew she'd have nothing to fear. He'd see to it that everything would be all right, that it would indeed be thrilling and fun and something she'd never forget.
