The air was crisp despite how brightly the sun shone down upon the bustling city of Inalt. Alexandria could smell the sea air as it wafted in on the breeze even though she wasn't directly on the coast or near the harbor. Maybe it was because she longed to see the Azure or maybe it was because she longed to get away from...
him. Yes. She could feel James' eyes watching her as they moved through the crowd of people meandering through the square. Oh how she wished he'd just go away, leave her alone and let her see things for herself. After all, she wasn't a child any longer. She was nineteen now, nearly twenty! Why her guardian felt she still needed the brute around was beyond her. Insulting almost.
Alexandria dared to glance over her shoulder as she continued to walk through the square. Her dark eyes immediately found those of James and the intensity of which he was staring caused her to gasp slightly. Quickly, she turned around, facing forward, her eyes fixing themselves on the road as she walked. She had to do something. She knew she did. One more minute with the man and she thought she might go mad. Her one hand reached up and her fingers began to furiously twist themselves within the dark curls hanging loosely about her shoulders. Suddenly, she began to quicken her pace.
Biting down on her lip, Alexandria began to walk faster and faster, weaving through the people as she walked through the square. She noticed a small crowd gathering around a pair of musicians and immediately headed toward them--the perfect place to lose James. The crowd was growing and the sight of that made her smile. She moved faster still, her tiny frame suddenly disappearing within the crowd.
When Alexandria chanced a look over her shoulder again, she saw that James was nowhere to be found. She'd lost him. "Finally," she whispered to herself, a smile playing on her lips. Her heart pounded as exhilaration and excitement coursed through her veins. Smoothing out her skirt, she let out a contented sigh and decided to head toward the water so that she could look upon the Azure.
Name (Nickname): Charlotte McCabe (Charlie)

Charlie let out a scowl. She didn't feel much like running errands, though she knew her father was counting on her to get him the necessary items for his latest breakthrough. His research in telegraphy was top secret, or well, so he thought. Charlie knew better, of course. The man was getting on in his years and not as careful as he used to be. It was why they'd gotten robbed three years back, though she'd never let on to her father as to such things. He had enough on his mind and was already too preoccupied with his work. It was his life. To tell him that it was his work that placed them both in danger would sure devastate him. As it was, the man already neglected his health for his research. On more than one occasion, Charlie had to force her father's hand to see a doctor when all he wanted to do was work.
The sun was especially bright and the air especially cool. Charlie didn't mind the onset of Fall, in fact she welcomed it. The Summer had been a hot one. Unbearable. So the seasonal change was something she was looking forward to. However, she wasn't one for large crowds. And the town square tended to be rather busy during the afternoons, which wasn't something she was looking forward to dealing with at all. As she neared the square, she could hear the dull murmur of voices, the laughter, the tears, the whispers. Her hand reached down to touch the knife she had on her hip and she let out a tiny breath of relief. Though she wasn't the most skilled fighter, there was something comforting about having the weapon there.
Walking into the square, Charlie tucked some of her orangey-red hair behind an ear and began to make her way to where the various sellers had their stands set up. She figured it best to see what sorts of things she could find there first before venturing into any of the shops. Her last stop would be risking it in the slums. She would only go there if she couldn't find what she needed in the square.

Mattie looked up into the sky and smiled. The sun felt warm against her pale skin, a contrast to how cool the air felt when the breezes blew. She was happy that so many people were gathered in the town square since it meant she'd more than likely sell most, if not all, of her roses that day.
"Roses... pink, red..." Mattie called out as she walked through the square, her lips forever turned up into a smile.
"I'll take a dozen!" called out a man.
Mattie's face brightened immediately and she made her way over to the man who'd called over to her. She began to gather a dozen roses together for him. "Thirty dollars please," she said, her voice soft and sweet.
The man handed Mattie the money. She gave him a low curtsey and smiled, then handing him the roses. When the man left, she heard the sound of music not too far off. Musicians were in the square playing and the music they were playing was lively and wonderful. Oh how she loved it and it made her want to dance. Unable to help herself, she began to dance a little to the music, her grace and femininity shining through with each step she took and every move she made.
