Jayde sat down at the table outside of the little cafe she visited every morning, sighing as she took note of the men who had been following her. No matter where she went, they were always there. She knew it was for her own protection, but she still hated the fact that every move she made was monitored and reported back to her father. Considering he was one of the biggest and most successful drug dealers in the city, he had a fairly large number of enemies. For his daughter's safety, he had men hired to follow her, keeping an eye on her every move. After awhile, she had gotten used to it, but as she got older, it was harder for her to deal with. After all, she was eighteen now, and she felt like she didn't need babysat every where she went.

When she was younger, she never really understood what her father did, but the older she grew, the more she grasped. No part of her approved of what he did, but still, he was her father and she loved him dearly. However, the two of them were in a bit of a rut. He had been facing some issues with his business and things were tense. Threats had been made, people had been killed, and as a result, her father tightened down on her security. She just wanted to get out in the world and do what she wanted, but she was confined. Part of her felt like it was selfish of him to even bring her into this world if he was going to keep her under watch her entire life. Sighing, she began to sip on her coffee, wishing that someone, anyone, would come and take her away.

Raven stared through his binoculars at his target. She was gorgeous, more gorgeous than anything he'd ever seen. She was also the target. If his intel was right, she was the Jayde, the daughter of his real target. After a failed attempt on the drug lords life, he'd had to shift focus. The man's security was very rigid, no cracks at all. But it seemed now that he and his daughter were in a bit of a spat. The bodyguards he'd hired were amateur at best. How had they passed through his security check? Ah well. They'd be gone soon enough.

Turning back onto the rooftop he was on, Raven pulled out his phone and dialed a number. If he was going to get the girl, everyone had to be ready to act now. This was the most lax her security had ever been.

"Are you ready? We must act now! I'm making the necessary shot in three minutes. Don't disappoint me." Hanging up the phone, he picked up a long briefcase, his personal rifle. Setting up on the corner of the rooftop, he looked through the scope and made the necessary wind adjustments to ensure his next shot was accurate. He needed to get both guards with one bullet.

An unmarked van turned the corner and he counted under his breath for his mark. "Three, two, one....." Pulling the trigger, the rifle went off like a shotgun but his aim had been true. The two guards dropped to the ground into their own brain matter and blood. Raven quickly pulled up and packed the rifle back into his case. His masked friends should be making the pick up now. He rode the elevator back down to the ground, whistling all the way. He'd them at the rendevous point.

After a few minutes, Jayde picked up her book and began to read. At least then she didn't have to think about her own life, she could just get lost in someone else's. Before, she had enjoyed going to parties, lounging at the pool, spending time with her friends. Things that most teenage girls took part in. However, it became harder and harder to explain the men that seemed to accompany her wherever she went, and as time when on, her father began to give her more restrictions. After awhile, she just gave up on having a social life. So, the majority of her time was spent sitting at the cafe with her nose in a book.

It was the same routine she followed every day. Nothing ever disrupted it, so as far as she was concerned, everything would play out the way it always did. She had just gotten sucked into the plot of her novel when she was suddenly brought back to reality by the sound of a gunshot. Before she even had time to react, people were panicking, screaming, running away from the scene. She stood quickly, searching for her body guards, but when her eyes finally found them, her heart sunk.

'Oh my god..' she said to herself, frozen from shock. Without so much as a second glance, she began to run. She didn't know where to, or what from, but all she knew was that she had to get out of there immediately.

Raven answered his phone on the second buzz. "What is it?" He listened for a few moments. "You what?!?! Fucking imbeciles! Your job was easy! Where is she headed? I'll pick her up myself!" After listening for a few more minutes, he snapped his phone closed and jammed it into his pocket. Of course they couldn't do something as simple as make a pickup. Of course people were going to panic, he'd not used a silencer. They were supposed to scoop her up in the pandemonium but of course, they'd messed it up.

"This is why I work alone." Rushing out of the doorway of the office building, he scanned the pandemonium and felt a moment of gratitude that he'd set up north of her location. She was running directly for him. Opening up the back of his own van, he threw his bag into the back and climbed up front into the driver's seat. He started up the engine and pulled away from the curb with a screech, stopping just feet in front of Jayde. Jumping out he rushed over and delivered a swift blow to the back of her neck, rendering her unconscious. He slung the woman over his shoulder and gently placed her into the back of his van.

Raven made quick work of tying her up and drove off before too many police could see what was happening. "Fuck could this have gotten any worse?"

Unsure of what to do, she just kept running. She couldn't just ask someone for help. Obviously, someone was after her, and she was not putting anyone else's life at risk. She knew that she needed to call her father, but more importantly, she needed to get far away from the scene.

She wasn't exactly sure how far she had gone, but after taking a few turns and peaking back behind her several times and not seeing anyone, she assumed that she had lost whoever was trying to find her. Stopping, she stood on the side walk, trying to catch her breath as she reached into her pocket to grab her cell phone. Frantically, she dialed her fathers number, glancing around her to make sure she was still alone. "Please pick up.." she said to herself, growing anxious. What was she supposed to do if he didn't?

Finally, on the last ring, she heard her father's voice. "This better be fucking important kid.. I told you I have a big client in this morning." She could hear the irritation in his words, but at that moment, she didn't care. So caught up in trying to get help, she hadn't even noticed the van that had pulled up just feet away from her. "Daddy," she said frantically. "I need.." Her words were cut short as everything suddenly went black, the phone falling to ground.

It had been a sloppy job. Everything that could go wrong, had gone wrong. Not only that, the girl had managed to get a phone call out as well, which would make hiding with her very, very difficult. Raven couldn't use any of his safe houses within a five mile radius of that phone. Which meant improvising his plan at the last minute. God he hated doing that. It was such a pain to do. Heaving a deep sigh, the assassin turned off of the main road and began driving down the smaller back ways.

Raven needed to become unfindable, untraceable to anyone. Even his employer. That meant tossing his phone. And wallet. And anything that could be used to trace him. "Fuck!" As he was getting ready to toss them out of the window though, he thought better and decided to burn them when they stopped. He couldn't risk them being found. They would have to be burned later.

After driving for an hour, Raven pulled up to a remote safe house hidden in the woods. Positive that they were safe for the moment, he got out and went inside to get the surveillance cameras booted and running. Once satisfied that all the proper security measures were taken, he pulled his unconscious prisoner out of the van and got her inside and on the only bed in the small room. He retrieved his gun case and locked them in, scanning the cams to be sure they were alone.

Jayde groaned in pain, her head pounding. She stretched out slightly, her body aching. After a moment, her eyes fluttered open. Where was she? Too scared to move, she remained where she was, her eyes scanning the dark room that she laid in. Her heart began to race as she recalled what had happened to her before she had suddenly blacked out. Her body guards had been killed, and now someone had taken her.

Trying to relax, she took a few deep breaths, her body shaking. She knew that freaking out wouldn't do her any good, but still, she was unsure of how to react. No one had ever prepared her for something like this. For the first time in her life, she wished that she was tucked away in the safety of her home. Before, she had always hated being so confined, but now she suddenly understood why her father had gone through so much to protect her.

Raven glanced up from his computer screen at the girl. Her breathing indicated that she was awake and trying to not to hyperventilate. He smiled. That was always an amusing sight. He watched her quake in fear for a few moments more before he finally leaned forward and struck a match to light the small camping lantern he had.

The light revealed a face with ruggedly good looks, dark brown eyes and a full beard. He had several piercings in both ears, a nose ring and was heavily tattooed. His hair was jet black and the mirth in his eyes was genuine. "You know, most girls that have gone through what you just went through would be freaking the fuck out right now. I applaud your self control Jayde. I know you're wondering why the hell you're here."

Not having noticed that there was another person in the room, Jayde jumped as a small amount of light suddenly filled the room, revealing a man. She sat up slowly, her hazel eyes meeting his. If it weren't for the fact that he had kidnapped her, or so she assumed he was the one that had taken her, he was the kind of guy that she would have found herself attracted to. She stared at him, searching for some sign of recognition, but she came up with nothing. She had never seen this man before.

As he began to speak, she slowly scooted back on the bed, moving until her back hit the headrest. Even though she knew that it more than likely wouldn't make much of a difference, she wanted as much space between him and her as possible. Of course she was wondering why she was there, not to mention where she even was in the first place. Still, she remained quiet, too frightened to speak.

Raven kept his distance from her, not wanting to spook her too badly. He folded corded arms across a well defined chest and sat back in his chair. Glancing at his computer screen, he started speaking. "You will be returned safe and sound to your father and his criminal empire soon enough. In my business, you are what's called collateral. You see, your father has been breaking his agreements with my client and stealing business amongst other things. It makes it hard for my client to make money you see. So I was hired to shake your father up a bit, scare his business. None of that has worked though. And so I have taken you. It matters not how tough and hard of a man you are, when your daughter is in danger, you do what you must to get her back. The man has balls though. He's not stopped any of his dealings far as I can tell."

The assassin stood and stretched before taking a few steps to the door. "I hope you can understand, this is simply business. While you are in my care, you will be provided for, food, warm shelter, water, and safety. You are with the best of the best. I am Raven." He pulled his rifle out of the case by the door and stepped outside. "I'll be gone for an hour or so to catch us dinner. The door will be locked so don't try to escape. There's nothing in here for you to contact the outside world with too. Please make yourself comfortable." He shut the door and locked it before sneaking off into the woods.

If it wasn't for the fact that she was terrified by this man, her anger would have gotten the best of her. Who did he think he was? What right did he have to take her? She didn't have anything to do with her father's business. His problems had nothing to do with her, so why drag her into it? She kept her eyes on him as he spoke, some of the fear leaving her expression, disgust replacing it. "Fucking pathetic.." she whispered, almost inaudibly.

She almost laughed in response when he told her he hoped she could understand. So far he had killed her body guards, knocked her unconscious, kidnapped her, and now he was basically holding her hostage. And he expected her to understand? Unable to take his bullshit seriously, she looked away, trying her best to tune him out as he continued to speak. As she turned her head, she noticed a book sitting on the bedside table. Picking it up, she threw it in his direction, just barely missing him as he slipped out of the door.

Raven chuckled to himself as he heard the book thump against the door. She had fire. And he did so love feisty women. Perhaps he would charm his way into her bed before giving her back. If there was time. It'd be tricky though, she was quite angry with him. He chuckled once more as he walked the woods until he came upon a hidden phone. He set up the satellite uplink and dialed out, surely there was an update on the situation by now.

"This is Raven. What's the situation?" He listened for a few minutes and rubbed his temple. Why were things always so difficult? The man should be putty in their hands now. The girl was useless if her father didn't cave in to his client's demands. Interrupting the speaker, he growled out instructions. "Look. I'll figure something out. Just try to keep the situation contained."

The assassin cut the link and shut down the phone. He snatched up his gun and headed back to the small cabin in a foul mood. This was going to get ugly.

Jayde was so angry she wanted to scream. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. After a moment, she scanned the room, and from what she could see, what he said seemed to be true. There wasn't a way out, other than the door which was locked. Still looking around, she noticed the computer on the desk that he had been sitting at earlier. She doubted it would work, he had said that she wouldn't be able to contact anyone. Still worth a shot. She walked over to the computer, moving the mouse. Of course, it was password protected. In frustration and anger towards Raven, she pushed the expensive looking piece of equipment off of the desk and onto the floor, the screen shattering. "Oops.." she said to herself.

She sat down on the chair in front of the desk, sighing as she pulled her knees up to her chest. Now what? She wondered what her father was doing to try to get her back, if he was doing anything at all. Her eyes filled with tears at the thought. She wasn't sure how long she had sat there, but after awhile, she made her way back to the bed, pulling the covers around her tightly, hoping that she could fall asleep and wake up in her own bed.

Raven was muttering to himself when he opened the door of the cabin. It was dark. Carefully setting down his rifle, he pulled out his sidearm. He didn't think she'd attack him but better safe than sorry. The lantern had burned out so it was dark inside. Gingerly making his way across the floor, he thought that he'd stepped on some glass but he couldn't be sure. Finally, he struck a match and searched for the lantern. Once it was lit, he took a look around the room, cataloging everything that was inside. Or missing rather. The computer screen was missing.

Hoping against hope, he looked down at his feet to the glass littering the floor and finally, the broken screen. The assassin stared at the lump on the bed and considered shooting it for a second. She'd broken his damned computer! He was trying to control his outburst. He lost. "FUCK! Can today get any worse!?!" His clenched fist hit the table with extreme force.

She had fallen asleep just minutes before Raven came back into the cabin. Her eyes flew open at the sound of him yelling, jumping slightly as he hit the table. Part of her felt smug. He was pissed off, which is exactly what she had hoped for, but at the same time, she seemed just as scared as she had been when she first woke up. She certainly didn't want to please him, but now that she thought about it, perhaps angering him wasn't the best way to go about things. After all, her life seemed to be in his hands.

Sitting up slightly, she looked over at him, seeing the anger in his eyes. She sat silently, waiting for what he was going to do next. He told her that one of the things he would provide her with was safety, and she hoped that by saying that he meant he wouldn't harm her.

Sitting heavily in his chair, Raven let out another curse before he leveled his gaze on Jayde. He put his sidearm on the desk in front of him so that he wouldn't be tempted to use it. "It seems this was all for naught. Your father hasn't even budged. As far as my intel can tell, he's not attempting to even search for you. Sorry if I offend but I'd really like to put a fucking bullet in his head. This was supposed to be an easy job. I certainly can't take you back right now. It's a death wish. And we can't stay here, someone will find us after while."

He stood up and paced the small room a few minutes, brainstorming before he turned to the girl. "Would you like to go back home? I'm sure I can get you close and let you go the rest of the way by yourself. I'll get another client and be just a bad memory for you." He crossed his arms and tapped his booted foot in irritation.

As he sat down in his chair, she was able to relax some, realizing that he wasn't going to hurt her. Her face wrinkled in confusion as he spoke. What did he mean her father wasn't looking for her? What the hell was he doing then? She felt her eyes fill with tears, and quickly, she looked away. It shouldn't have mattered, but she didn't want him to see her cry. This whole time, she had managed to stay strong. After being kidnapped and taken to an unfamiliar place, she had kept her cool and hadn't shed a tear, but now, she was about to lose it.

When he asked her if she wanted to go home, she broke down. She buried her head in her hands, the tears now flowing steadily. "I just.. want.. this to be.. over." she managed to say in-between cries.

Oi. She was crying. He had no idea how to deal with crying women. One didn't run into many of those in his line of work. Getting up, he crossed and gently sat down next to the crying girl. He felt a little awkward considering he'd kidnapped her but he didn't think she should cry alone. It was tough not knowing your father's love. Taking a deep breath, he resolved to try and help her some.

"Look. You're just a girl. I've dragged you into something pretty traumatic. Sorry. I understand you may hate me and be angry. That's fine. But for now, I think it's good that you cry. I know how it feels to not have your father's love. I know it all too well. So cry your tears now and we can figure out the rest later." He wasn't soft often so he shut his mouth. He didn't know what else to do with a crying girl. It was much easier to be alone.

Jayde didn't want to cry, especially not in front of him. It made her feel weak. Really, that was one of the only things she had in common with her father. She didn't like to show weakness. That, and she was stubborn. She tried to compose herself, but as Raven sat by her and gave what she thought was an attempt to comfort her, she started to cry even harder.

Suddenly, everything started to make sense. She had just been a burden to her father. It was something she had always considered, but never actually truly believed. Not until now at least. He constantly complained about having to keep tabs on her and spend unnecessary time and money to keep her out of harms way. If he truly cared and wanted her to be safe, he wouldnt complain about going through the process to do so. Now, she realized that keeping her protected was more for his sake rather than hers. She knew things. Things that his enemies and rivals could easily use against him. He kept her protected to keep himself safe, not her.

After a few minutes, her crying slowed, the amount of tears decreasing. After taking a few deep breaths, she looked over at Raven. "I don't wanna go back." She said quietly. She didn't know where she would go, or what should would do when she got there, but she couldn't go back to a home where she wasn't even wanted.

Raven let her cry. He didn't need to say anything else. It was her time now. But when she finally stopped, he was surprised by her quiet declaration. He honestly hadn't expected her to stay away. Jayde seemed to be a much different girl than what he'd originally thought she was. It made a plan of action easier to decide to.

"Well. We should get some rest. You're tired and I'm tired. We'll wake up in the morning and figure out what we're going to do with you. And then I'm going to get you there safely." The assassin stood and stretched before noting a problem. "Um. I'll sleep on the floor and keep guard."

Jayde nodded in response. She was tired, and after everything that had happened, she just wanted to go to sleep and be able to not have to deal with it for awhile. She knew that putting it off wouldn't make it any easier, but she just didn't have the energy to deal with anything else.

Part of her felt bad when Raven volunteered to take the floor. She knew that she shouldn't feel bad, considering the fact that he had kidnapped her, but at the same time, he seemed to help her without even realizing it. Without him, she wouldn't have come to the realization that her father truly didn't care. Not that she enjoyed knowing that, but it was something that she needed to be aware of, and he had made that possible.

"I don't take up a lot of room.. you could sleep here." she said after a moment.

"It's fine. Get some sleep Jayde. I'll stand guard." He pulled the chair in front of the bed before grabbing his sidearm. He checked the clip to ensure it was full before reloading and cocking the gun. The same was done for the rifle, which he laid across his legs. Raven was very uneasy staying at a safehouse overnight. He preferred a bed in a nice hotel but this would have to do until tomorrow.

"Be ready to get up and move when I say Jayde. I don't have a good feeling about staying here. We'll be easily tracked if your father decides he needs to keep you quiet. I'll get you to safety, but you'll need to follow my instruction. Good night." The assassin closed the lantern and the room fell into darkness.

She shuddered at the thought. If he decided to keep her quiet.. What would that entail? Her own father wouldn't hurt her, would he? She tried to push the thought aside, but it lingered in her mind. She suddenly thought of her mother. Rumor had it that she cheated on her father with one of his rivals. When he found out, she was gone. He told her she had up and left, that she didn't love them anymore. Even though she didn't want to, at the time she believed it. What else was she supposed to think? But now, looking back on it, it just didn't make sense. Her mother would have left him any day, but not her daughter. Had he done something to her? If so, what would stop him from doing the same to her?

Throughout her life, she had always felt safe. But now, she was a nervous wreck. What would she do once Raven got her someplace safe? She didn't have any connections of any sort. How would she provide for herself? Despite how tired she was, she couldn't sleep. Her mind was too consumed. After what seemed like, and probably was hours, she finally managed to drift off.

Raven sat awake long into the night. He knew Jayde was awake. He could almost hear her fretting about things behind him. Once he was certain the girl was asleep, he slowly stood to his feet, silently catching his rifle and swinging it onto his shoulder. His eyes had long adjusted to the darkness. Turning, he looked down upon the sleeping girl and sighed softly. There was no way her father would let a loose end go uncut. He'd send someone after her. They were in danger as long as they stayed here. Unless he could kill their silencers. Moving toward the door, carefully trying to avoid the crunching glass underfoot, he slipped silently into the night. Raven was the best. And he'd be damned if some greenhorn assassin took him out.

Most nights, Jayde had a hard time staying asleep. An hour or so after drifting off, she was wide awake. She stretched out a bit in bed, and for a moment she was unsure of where she was, but it soon came back to her. She sighed, wishing that she could just have a normal life. After looking around for a moment, she realized that Raven was nowhere in sight. "Raven?" she called out quietly, no response. She stood up and moved over to the chair he had been sitting in, which was now empty. Her eyes wandered to the door, which had been locked the last time he left. Then, he had expected her to escape, but now that she had been asleep, maybe he hadn't thought about it.

Testing the theory, she walked over to the door, quietly turning the handle. She was right. It was unlocked. It wasn't that she wanted to escape, after all she had no where to go. She just wanted to find Raven. He was the only thing she had, and she felt scared without him around. Little did she know, she had more reason to be scared now that she wasn't in the house. She had no idea that they weren't alone. "Raven?" she called out again, this time louder, completely unaware of the dangers that were lurking around them.
