Cassie looked across the table at him, into his eyes as she listened to his words, keeping her glass in hand and it raised to her lips as she sipped at it. "I know that you never bought me these things because you thought it would get you a good night in bed or they would somehow buy my affection. I also know that if someone truly loves you they don't do things like remain faithful or love you for the rest of your life simply because they feel bound by a ring on their finger. They do those things because they want to." She said, pausing to take several sips of wine.
"Regardless of if you believe me or not me asking for your word isn't some kind of test, nor is what might take place tonight. Sure, I know where I'd like us to eventually become but I knew what the circumstances were when I agreed to stay the night with you. I know you wanted me to have these nice things and that even now you don't expect anything for them; that you don't even expect them to be returned." She then paused and took a deep breath. "As much as you go on about what love is, though, you forget one thing: Love isn't about what you deserve, it's just about who you happen to feel a physical and emotional connection with on a deep level." She said, contemplating offering to head back to her hotel room, but she knew that suggestion would just upset the two of them more.
