The Man Behind the Mask and His Muse(Wolvenrogue and Nightsorceress

"I'm going to look for him" Charles said. "would you like to come along? I really could use the help."

Aria shook her head. "sir I can barely stand here and talk to you, let alone go look for him." she said softly. "good luck in your search."

Charles was shocked. He had thought that they were a couple. The entire staff had thought so. he thanked her for her time and left hurriedly. He told himself he would not mention their conversation to Geno, if in fact he found him alive. he drove Geno's Bently down the coast highway at blinding speed. He knew the police were looking for Geno, and if he were stopped, he would simply ask for an escort. He pulled over, almost an hour down the road when he saw the Ferarri parked along the road, It's doors still standing open. He hurried down the beach and began to walk along the sand, looking for any sign of his lifelong employer. He loved Geno like a brother.

Aria sighed and closed the door and stumbled back to bed. She realized in that moment a relationship between them would never work, he was to wrapped up in his self to ever truly care about her the way she wanted to be treated or even loved. She felt her head spin feeling so sick.

Charles ran frantically up and down the beach searching for Geno, when he saw something floating in the water a few yards from shore. He ran into the water and found Geno Laying face down. His heart sank, He was certain by now that his friend was dead, and rolled him on his back and pulled him quickly ashore. The body was blue but not yeat stiff he hauled him ashore, and was shocked when Geno began to choke violently and cough up water. He started to breath, but did not wake. Charles took out his phone and called the police. Once Geno was in the care of the local hospital, Charles drove back to see Aria. Hoping she could be persuaded to come and be there when and if Geno ever woke up. he arrived at the door and knocked, though it was now late in the evening.

Aria heard the knock at the door. She did not want to get out of bed. Finally she got up and made it to the door. She looked worse then before. "hello"

"I'm sorry to bother you again Miss, but though you might want to know. I found Geno, and he is near death in the hospital. Would you like me to take you to him?"

Aria bit her lip a moment thinking if she should go, but she knew if she went she would let her emotions cloud her better judgment and end up back with the self centered man. She just shook her head. "thank but no. I hope he recovers soon." she said very plainly.

Charles just looked at her in disbelief. "Do you know that he loves you?" he asked. " I have known the man a long time, but never have I seen him like this. He would die for you gladly." His eyes looked at her hoping she would change her mind, and he would not have to bear the news that she had not wanted to see him. He was very afraid, that if the water did not kill him, that would.

"your don't get it, I don't want him to die for me, I want him to live. He is spoiled and he is use to getting what he wants and when he doesn't get what he wants he throws a fit like a child. I can't be in love with a child." aria said softly tears spilling from her eyes.

Charles just waited a moment. "He is far from a child, Miss. Don't missjudge him, but do as you see fit. I am leaving to go back in 10 minutes. He may not live out the night. I thought you ought to know." Charles face fell at her words and he turned away sadly and went back to the main house to quickly change clothes before returning to the hospital.

Aria sighed once again and closed the door. She no longer had the strength to walk back to her bedroom so she just sank down the couch, she did hope Geno was ok. But she could not rush to his side

Charles hurried back to the hospital, and back to his dear friend and employer. Not much had changed since he left. Gino lay in a coma for almost a week, and Charles stayed by his side. He had the Ferarri towed back to the house, and consulted his lawyer, making arrangements in case they would be necessary. He was in a meeting with the lawyer when the nurse came to get him. "Your friend is awake. Is there someone named Aria here? He is asking for her. Can you at least get her on the phone. Let me talk to her." Charles dialed Aria number and prayed that she would answer and handed the phone to the nurse.

Arak started to feel a bit better over the week, although she was worried about Geno she tried not to think about it. She was more focused wondering if she should go back to Poland or not now. She was playing her piano just think things over when her phone rang "hello."

"Is this Aria? This is nurse Catino at Provincial Hospital. We have a man named Gino here who says he knows you and and has not ceased asking for you since he woke up from a coma an hour ago. Miss, he is still gravely ill and the stress of looking for you is not good for him. If their is any way you can come, even just for a few minutes, we would apreciate it. As nurses we hate to to lose a patient, and it is especially hard to see them pass when they are longing for a loved one. "

There was silence on the phone for a long time finely a meek voice answered. "I am sorry you have the wrong number." and she hung up the phone. Her heart raced in her chest as she just stared at nothing wondering if she had done the right thing.

The nurse handed the phone back to Charles with a grim expression on her face. "she hung up on me." Charles face turned Ashen as he went to consol Gino. Gino's wails could be heard up and down the hall as Charles told him that Aria was not their and wouldn't come. With what strength he had left Gino asked for a pencil and paper. He scrawled a note out with a shaky hand.

Dearest Aria,

I know that you must think me awful, and a selfish child. For that I am terribly sorry. I wish you all the best in the world, and want you to know that everything I owned, including the opera, has been left to you. Please take care of it and enjoy it. I wish that I could say goodbye, that I could just once more touch your face and and know that you really meant what you said when you told me I am not a monster. I am afraid I have proved you wrong, and that I am not only a monster on the outside, but on the inside as well. Take what I have left you and brighten your life with it, and know that for however long I live, I will be grateful for the brief time I had with you.

I will always be your friend, and I will always love you.

Gino.

He called his lawyer to the bedside, and gave instruction for the lawyer to deliver the note and he signed a paper giving all that he owned to her that moment, while he still lived. If he could not have her, he wanted nothing.

The next morning the lawyer knocked at her door to deliver the note and make arrangements to transfer the property to her.

When the knock came to the doors he answered it and read the papers. She shook her head and left heading straight to the hospital. She asked where his room was and went right in there not caring who was there. "well you finally got me here, are you happy now? I came to tell you I want nothing from you. You can keep it all."

Gino looked up at her from the bed, as the nurse tried to pull her from the room. In a weak voice, he he pleaded with the nurse. "Let her stay I deserve what ever she has to say." He then turned to Aria and spoke " Please accept it, not for me, but for the people at the opera and for the household staff. They have been loyal, and I want it to continue for them. I know you are capable. All I wanted from you was to tell you I'm sorry. I really am sorry. Go now if you wish, you answered the only other question I had. I am a monster in and out, and I hurt the only person I ever really loved. "

He turned his face to the wall, and spoke no more.

Aria shook her head " as I said I don't want anything from you. And you are wrong you are not a monster your a spoiled child. Use to getting what you want and when it doesn't happen you pout. Every time I did nof agree you you sulked in your booth at the opera or your latest stunt tring to kill yourself. And in the end I see you only car about yourself and nothing I say or do will ever matter."

He turned his face back to her again. "I made a mistake, granted a big one, but a mistake none the less. I got carried away in my passion, and now nothing I can say or do will correct it. You tell me I am not a monster but you treat me like one. You say I am selfishly motivated, but when I give you all I have and expect nothing in return, you spurn even that. I didn't ask you for anything more. I only wanted the opera to survive. Give the papers back to my lawyer, If I don't survive, I'll donate it to charity. Go then, back to what ever there is in life that will make you happy. You have your pretty face, your beautiful voice. Take them away and you might understand me. Then you would know what it means to be a monster." he turned his face to the wall and pulled the covers over his head.

"you see what I mean just now we are talk and you turn tail and hid under the covers. I do not need childish games in my life. I wish you the best of luck and hope you feel better if at some point you are ready to be a man then come and find me and then maybe we will talk." with that she left the papers on the foot of the bed and left

He tried to get up out of bed and follow her down the hall. "This isn't a game! What do you want from me?" he shouted after her. As he got up, the IV pulled from his arm and it bled profusely. He covered the wound and kept walking. He stood there hoping at least she would turn around and answer him. " I love you. I want you. I will do anything for you, but I am not and never will be perfect. I make mistakes, and I require forgiveness from time to time. This is one of those times. You call me childish, and I am, but your no different than me! You ran away and left me on the side of the road because I made a mistake! You say that you love me. That wasn't love. There is nothing I won't forgive you for. Run away to Poland if that's what you want, but don't pretend you love me if you do."

He stood there in the hall half naked and bleeding. when he started to get dizzy, he leaned against the wall. "I have admitted my mistake in front of the whole hospital. Is there no forgiveness in your heart?"

Aria stopped when she heard him yell she just listen to his words and shook her head. She finally moved back to him tears were in her eyes. "I told you from day one don't put all your hopes on me, because I will disappoint you I can never be the woman you believe me to be, and I was right, I can't be anything more than who I am, and right now who I am is tired of being the adult in this relationship, tired of having to always put you back together and I can never fall a part."

Gino hung his head. he wanted to hug her and he reached out and tried to walk to her, but collapsed on the floor. From his position as a crumpled heap on the floor, he looked up at her and simply said "I'm so sorry Aria. I really did fail you. I can't be the man you want me to be either. Their are just too many peices missing at the moment. What ever you choose to do, just know that I love you and would have done better if I could have. I really want you to have a happy life, and I'm sorry I leaned so hard on you. You should go and leave me to solve my own problems. I'm only half the man you deserve. A lot more than my face was destroyed that day in the boating accident." He turned and crawled back to his room, and with help from the nurse crawled into the bed.
