The Lady Knight (Collector and Ava)

Traveling was another topic she was going to bring up with King Otho in the morning. "I'm glad you're happy. As far as traveling goes, I was going to ask my father if I may go into the village marketplace, now that I have you at my side." The princess was rather tired of her confining bodice and threw in the towel to change. Thankfully this dress need no assisting hand to get off. "Please excuse me... I'm going to change for the evening." She dismissed herself to her bed chambers and closed the door, but left it opened a crack. She wold be out soon enough. The ribbon on the front of her gown was unlaced and piece by piece the ensemble was disassembled and landed in a pool of fabric at her feet.

A white loose night gown was slipped over her head and a finger raked through her raven mane as she felt far more comfortable. Slippers upon her feet and she was back in the parlor once more and sat upon the sofa once more and plucked a piece of meat from her plate and slipped it past her lips. She had a bad habit of grazing when food was around. "Tomorrow will prove an interesting day. Especially since I have to ask my father for a few things."

Nora couldn't help but stare when Abigail walked out in her nightgown. She was beautiful in her normal attire, but she looked stunning in her nightgown. The gown made her look small, almost defenseless as she pecked at the food on the table. Nora didn't understand why she found her eyes so drawn to the princess, but she knew that it was a bad idea for a bodyguard to become attached to her charge. She forced herself to look away and instead starred out the window.

"In that case, it might be a good idea for you to go to bed soon," said Nora. "Rest is the best way to prepare for a conflict of any sort."

Abigail sounded reluctance with a sigh as green eyes stared into the dancing flames beneath the mantle. The heat licking at her exposed flesh and the light reflecting in her eyes. Staring in a hypnotic way as she spoke. "I suppose you are right." Right on cue, a yawn parted her lips and a hand covered it promptly, signalling a weary state. Eyes grew lightly laden with the ache to sleep. Up from the sofa she stood and oddly enough, gave Nora a brief hug before walking past her and continuing towards her bed chambers. A faint rosey hue to her cheeks in the form of a blush that the Knight could not see.

"Good night Nora." Pass the threshold of her bed chambers, she closed the door behind her. Pulling back the blankets and crawling in the center of the four pillar bed. Almost dwarfed by the sheer size of it. The lantern at her bed side was snuffed out and the room was obscured in darkness, aside from the open arched window that spilled moonlight into her room. Abby fell asleep with ease and at some point her dreams turned into nightmares and her breathing grew jagged as she slept before gasping and her eyes shot open clutching the blankets to her chest. Heart pounding so hard that it echoed through her ears.

The horrible things she had seen. So much blood, so many people. Lies. All lies. That was all she could seem to remember. She had not the slightest clue as to what time of the night it was.

It took Nora a long time to fall asleep; the bed she lay on was too comfortable, if such a thing were possible. She was used to lying on the ground or a hard cot stuffed with straw, so a soft bed was completely new to her. After a few hours of restlessness, Nora got out of bed, picked up her sword and went back into the living room where there was still some food on the table. With a sigh, she flopped down in a chair and began picking at the remnants of dinner. She couldn't hear the princess through her bedroom door, but she stayed in the living room for quite some time.

(Sorry for the short post)

( No problemo ^_^ )

Princess Abigail was going to have a hard time falling back to sleep. She always had when waking up in the middle of the night. A good book would do the trick, or she could just lay before the fire where she would often find herself drifting to sleep. The pulled back the blankets that covered her and slipped her slippers on her petite feet and quietly left the parlor. Slender fingers raking through tousled ebony tendrils as she slowly opened the door to go and rest in the parlor. She did not expect to see Nora there and titled her head in a bit of curiosity as she walked over to take a seat before the fire. Taking a second to explain her own presence. "Had a nightmare, and I can't seem to get back to sleep. What about you?" She sat at the end of the long comfortable piece of furniture and rest her head upon the arm and her legs curled up at her side beneath her night gown. The light of the fire dancing in her eyes as she stared.

Nora hadn't expected Abigail to be awake at this hour and almost jumped out of her seat when she heard the princes's voice. She felt almost guilty to be caught eating, like she had been caught stealing the food. She knew it was irrational, but she couldn't help but feel that way in such a nice house: she just felt so out of place in the castle.

"I couldn't sleep," she said. "It's just a new bed; have you ever had trouble sleeping in a new bed for the first time? I even had trouble the first night I switched from a bedroll to a cot in the inn."

She creaked a weary half smile as she completely understood. She pictured herself in the female knight's shoes and the difference from sleeping on the ground, to sleeping on a cot, and then to a well kept bed had to be a bit of an adjustment. She had even noticed how little Nora had eaten. On the field there were rations and the abundance of food suddenly at her disposal was also a new thing. "No I have not had too to many changes in my life time so far, but I am getting use to someone new." She turned her eyes from the sight of the fire to her new body guard.

"I have to admit, I- I did not look forward to having a new body guard. I had spent years avoiding and slipping from the sights of the last person that held your post. But... you, I like you. I are clearly devoted to your duty, but we do have some things in common with one another. I wouldn't mind being tailed by you Nora. You'll adjust to your new surroundings in now time." She stood up from her chair and sat upon the arm of Nora's chair and sighed as she looked at the fire. "I might just fall asleep out here. I usually do when I wake up in the middle of the night, so don't be surprised if you find me out here in the morning." Nora was sadly the closest to a friend she would have, aside from Lydia who was more like a mother figure than a friend. A princess did not have as much freedom as one would think.

Nora felt suddenly uncomfortable being so close to Abigail; she found it hard to take her eyes off of her charge. She didn't understand why she felt so drawn to the girl. Was it because she had spent so much time among men that she had taken on their mannerisms? Was that even possible? She shook her head and looked away from the princess.

"I'm glad that you feel safe in my presence, Princess," she said, standing to get Abigail a blanket. "I doubt that I'll be able to sleep in my bed tonight either; why don't you sleep on the couch and I'll take a chair."

Nora draped the blanket over Abigail and offered her her hand. She hoped to avoid embarrassing herself that night, and the sooner the Princess was asleep, the sooner she could relax and get some rest herself.

She took her eyes off of the fire when Nora got out of the chair and brought back a blanket. "Thank you." She said with a light yawn as she got off of the chair and headed over to the couch and laid down hugging the blanket around her. "Good night Nora." The princess whispered with her eyes closed as she tried to fall back asleep. She was more comfortable than she thought since she passed out in less than ten quiet minutes. Under the watchful eyes of someone she trusted.

She would not awaken until the sun peaked over the horizon and a knock sounded upon her bedchamber door. It was Lydia, come to fill her bath and assist in getting her ready for a new day before she joined her father to eat the first meal of the day. Lydia sounded her name and waited for the door to be opened. Abby mumbled and shifted beneath the comfort of her blanket before sitting up on the sofa with her eyes still closed, like the living dead.

Arms stretching above her head as the blanket fell to her waist and she rubbed the sleep from her eyes and raking her fingers through her hair. "Good morning Nora." She said as she finally opened up her eyes. None to surprise to see that she had woken up on the sofa rather than her bed.

Nora fell asleep in the chair where she had been sitting. She woke first when some servants silently entered to clear away the food they had eaten the previous night. Nora stood, stretching, and instructed one of the servants to help her put on her armor. Once she was fully armed and armored, she walked back into the living room just as Abigail was waking up.

"Good morning, Princess," she said, giving Abby a formal nod. "Miss Lydia." She gave the handmaid a nod as well. "I hope you slept well last night. Is there anything you'll need my assistance with this morning or shall I just stand back and remain vigilant?"

Nora wouldn't have minded helping out, she felt useless just standing around and watching, but she hoped that she wouldn't be asked to help with the princess's bath. Seeing her in her nightgown had been bad enough the last night: she wasn't sure how she'd handle seeing her charge naked. The mere thought caused Nora to experience an odd warmth between her legs; the knight was unfamiliar with her own sexuality. She had obviously never had sex while in the military, although her hymen had torn while she was riding a horse, and she hadn't even pleasured herself. Arousal was a new sensation to her: one she found more than a little intimidating.

Abby was assisted off of the sofa with a helping hands from Lydia and the blanket was folded up by the plump little lady and set aside. Abigail was just noticing that Nora was back in her armor once more. Abby raked her fingers through tousled tendrils as Lydia answered the knight's question. "Actually when the Princess is done with her bath, I will need a hand lacing up the back of her gown. These fingers are not what they once were." She sighed.

Abby blushed as she went ahead of Lydia and went to her room and gently close the door behind her and stripped off of her night gown, allowing the white garb to fall into a pool of fabric at her feet. Lydia slipped into the room and into another small room with a copper clawfoot tub. Lydia filled the tub with two buckets of water and once the princess climbed in, began washing her clean with lavender soap. Abby and Lydia discussed yesterday's events and when she was rinsed and dried off and whisked to her room where she was fitted with a chemise and slender fitting gown with corset backing.

Her back, down to the waist completely exposed. A hand pressed to her chest to keep the dress from falling as Lydia went and fetched Nora to assist her with the laces upon the back of Abigail's dress. " Sir Fields, we're ready." She said, peeking her head from the princess' bed chambers door.

Nora stood guard outside of the bathroom, exercising every ounce of her self-control to prevent herself from peeking in. She went through military drills in her mind to occupy the time. When she was called, she went in to see the princess holding her dress up with one hand. Nora moved up behind her and just stood awkwardly for a moment.

"I'm... not familiar with this kind of dress," she said. "I wore skirts as a girl, but I tied those at the waist. I'm also not sure if I can lace you up while wearing gloves..."

Nora's face was bright red with embarrassment. Half was because she didn't know how to operate the dress, but part was because of the princess's state. One slip and her breasts would be exposed; what scared Nora was that there was a part of her wishing for that to happen.

Lydia smiled and noted the modesty that Nora seemed to show. This was far different that fighting on the battlefield with nothing but male's surrounding you. "I will show you. My fingers do not seem to want to stay still. These laces criss cross one another, like so... and go into these holes..." This was the part she had trouble with. "It will be easier without the gloves." Lydia informed.

Abby blushed as Lydia showed the female knight how to lace up the back of her dress. "You do not have to, if you do not want to Nor- Sir Fields." She quickly corrected herself as she hugged the dress to her chest. Lydia's hands shook as she tried and finally she got it through the holes and sighed her frustrations. "I will continue cleaning up here and then head to the dining hall to prepare for the morning, princess." Lydia announced before going about her task.

Lydia left Nora to the dress and began fixing up the princess' bed and the left the room to fix up Nora's bed before tidying up the parlor and leaving the bedchambers.

Nora watched as Lydia instructed her on how to lace up the dress and nodded. She went through the process of unlatching her gauntlets from her armor, then removed them. She placed the metal gloves on the dresser beside Abigail and began lacing up the dress. She did her best to be gentle, but she pulled the laces too tight the first time, then loosened them a bit too much. On the third try she was finally able to get it just right.

"I apologize for the delay, Princess," said Nora. "Is there anything else you need to do before we go to meet your father?"

Abby bit back a little laughter as she felt the suddenly tight strings, loosen up on her and the dress was finally laced and she turned to face the knight with a casual and warm smile. "Yes... you need to relax." The princess was mistaking the knights slight awkwardness to the fact that they were going to see her father rather than being in her presence. A kiss was placed upon the knight's cheek and then a heavy sigh escaped her lips. "I'm having a little trouble relaxing."

She led the way out of her bed chambers and into the parlor and to the front door. "The sword lessons and... and..." A soft sighed signaled a bit of her frustration as she did not want to keep her father waiting. "Why does today seem far more tense than any other day?" she asked as her mind searched for other things she had to talk to her father about. "Oh, a trip into the village today as well."

Nora's face turned red with embarrassment when Abigail kissed her. She had never been kissed by anyone who wasn't family, nor had she been kissed unexpectedly like that before. She almost didn't notice that Abigail had walked out of the room until she heard the door open.

"Perhaps you're dreading the meeting with your father," said Nora. "You said yourself that he might not like you to take sword lessons, nor would he support your desire to go into town, so this is likely going to be an uncomfortable breakfast. Just keep your temper in check and allow me to explain why I want you trained in the sword and everything will be alright."

She nodded her head and cracked a lax smile as she took a deep breath. "I shall leave that in your capable hands." With that sentence she took both of Nora's hands and offered her a reassuring look that she was confident in the tasks that lay ahead, like it was a wild adventure. Yet it was such a simple task and it was nice to have someone with her. Before they walked into the hall she released the female knight's hands and walked past servants that bowed and offered their good mornings as she made her way down to the dining hall.

King Otho was just now getting seated at the high table. Servants scrambling around to meet his needs as A chair was pulled out for the princess and she took a seat across from her father. Looking of to the left wall where in the center sat a lovely portrait of her mother. "Good morning father." Abby said with a smile. "All goes well I hope?" Food was placed upon their plates and a glass of juice and water was brought to her. She hoped the breath the ice first before bombarding her father with requests.

Nora sat down beside Abigail and made a point of sampling her food before letting her eat. She couldn't help but notice the portrait and how it resembled her ward. She hadn't seen the queen in life, but the look in Abigail's eyes when she looked at it spoke volumes. She dug into the food, once more displaying a lack of table manners, but did her best to be polite in front of the king. She watched the conversation silently, waiting for her opportunity to interject.

She felt bad for Abigail: the girl didn't seem to have a very good relationship with her father in that there seemed to be a real sense of distance between the two of them. She had talked with her parents every day, even when she was mad at them, and her brother even more frequently. She didn't understand how anyone could stand to not talk to their children; to Nora, family was very important, which was why it hurt so much when she had lost hers.

Abby had quickly gotten use to someone sampling her food before she partook of it herself. she had grown to learn that there was no stopping it no matter how hard she tried or how much she complained. It would be done. When Nora took a seat at Abby's side, the princess rested a hand upon the knights thigh for her own reassurance. "Good morning Abigail." The king replied with a lax smile behind the whiteness of his bead and mustache as he continued eating in between his sentences. "All is well, why do you ask?" As nice as a conversation as this seemed, ever since her mother had passed away there was a gap between father and daughter almost every time they crossed one another in some way.

"Just curious. I do have a question though. With Sir Fields at my side, would it be okay if I could visit the village? I'll take the carriage, but it is rather stifling within these walls father. How do I rule over people I know little of? I'll bring you back something.... I promise." Her tone got sweeter and more youthful as she presented her argument. A heavy sigh escaped the kings lips as he stabbed the fork into his breakfast and left it siting there.

"Now Abby... I do not know about that... " He looked at his daughter's pleading expression and forgot the manipulative method she had inherited from her mother and how well they worked on him. "Fine. After your studies. You will have to inform the servants to see to the falconry since you may not have time. Anything else?" He asked with an annoyed expression. This next request was a rather odd one from her and she did hesitate as she picked at the food on her plate.
