Dragon's mate (Psionic and I)

Sya roared again, furious when the arrows came from two different sides. She feels a huge pang of alarm go through her when the warriors ring her in. She had read the signs when Farrith had been killed, had almost seen how they had formed up in order to kill him. Sya keeps her head low, protecting her vulnerable neck. Even if her fire jets don't work to take out the archers, it does work to set some of the foliage around them ablaze. Sya tries to circle about, trying to keep the circle of humans from closing in on her. One of the arrows finds the unlucky spot of the very tip of Sya's tail. The dragoness let out a definite roar of pain and fury, the shaft of the arrow still stuck in her tail. Sya loosed a few more massive jets of flame, setting a lot more of the surrounding foliage on before before moving to charge head long into the nearest group of warriors.

The crowd of humans kept up their relentless assault even as Sya tried to keep them from closing her in, but it was clear these humans were not afraid of her, at least not as much as humans should be. They also didn't seem bothered overmuch by the fire, and merely did their best to maneuver around it. Norman continud to watch Sya very closely from behind the line, reading her thrashing and struggles to anticipate what her next move would be. Finally, one of the arrows got a lucky shot and sunk into her flesh, casuing the dragon to roar in pain and bolt forward towards some of the humans in a panic.

Perfect.

The humans in the dragon's way tried to jump out of her path, but at the same tme kept jabbing their spears at her as she plowed through them. Several of the humans were knocked aside, but the rest were undaunted. Norman had been able to anticipate the direction the dragon would bolt for, and had already positioned himself a ways behind the humans in the dragon's path, where he dropped prone on his back into the foliage and underbrush, with his sword at the ready. All he had to do now was wait for the panicked dragon to pass right over him without noticing him, and in one stroke, it would be all over...

****

Talver's chest burned with exertion, and his muscles felt like they were on fire, but he ignored every protest of his body as he charged as fast as he physically could towards the sound of battle. Finally, he could see the glint of steel between the trees and the movement of human bodies, with small flashes of fire here and there. Though his lungs already felt ready to burst, Talver sucked in the deepest breath he could manage, and bellowed out as loud as his human voice could; "STAND DOWN!" Over and over, he repeated the words as he rushed towards the humans and started pushing some of them around. "STAND DOWN! STAND DOWN! STAND DOWN!"

****

Over the din of the battle, and the war-yells of the humans, a new voice suddenly began to shout over them, faintly. But the humans nearest to the voice who heard it clearest stopped in bewilderment, and obeyed the voice instinctively without realizing why they recongized it. Confusion then rippled through the human throng like wildfire, causing the entire procession to falter in uncertainty.

Norman, from his hiding place, turned his head towards the source of the break in the warrior's morale. "What in the--"

But he had taken his eyes off the dragon that was headed straight for him, and was no longer prepared to avoid the trampling claws...

Sya doesn't care if any of the humans get killed or not. By the time she had found Farrith laying there on the mountainside, they had already removed their dead from the battle. Other wise she would have dropped their remains among the village before swooping up Talver. She's lucky that the spears don't reach her eyes or the inside of her nostrils, which would really hurt. Sya's sharp claws rip the foliage underneath to mulch, and she can easily do the same to an unwary human. And she finds one with a sword out, it would be very bad. Although an injury to her mouth would hurt, her teeth are more then capable of removing the arm holding the sword. She hears Talver's words, but that doesn't stop her charge.

The thundering of the dragon's approach snapped Norman back to what he was supposed to be focusing on, but it was just a second too late, he couldn't time the proper strike he had intended. He had to immediately go into a roll to avoid the stampeding dragon, but just as he did so, he lashed out with his sword anyway. The tooth of steel bit into Sya's scaled flesh.

It was not a mortal blow. Nothing less than a square hit could kill a dragon. But the sword did cut a significant gash across the belly of Sya, spilling her blood onto the ground below. Even so, Norman's improperly-timed roll didn't allow him to escape unscathed, either. Just as he was about to get free, a talon of one of the dragon's stomping claws pierced straight through his arm before jumping away, causing the human to yell out in pain from the injury as he tried to continue to scramble away to get to his feet.

Talver had Sya in his sights now, and his heart was leaping out of his chest in fear for her. And when he saw the flash of steel cut into her belly, he very nearly stumbled in anguish. No! This can't be happening! NO!

"Stop, stop, stop, everyone STOP! SYA!" Talver cried out as he ran to catch up with the injured Sya. At last, he finally reached her, the dragoness who had claimed him, and he threw his arms around her neck, in a manner like he was trying to shield her from the other humans. "Everyone stand down and--"

But there were a few humans with stone-slings who still hadn't quite caught onto what was going on, and a stray rock flying through the air suddenly caught Talver across his forehead. His legs buckled and he clapped a hand over his head, with only his other arm hanging onto Sya's neck preventing him from collapsing to the ground.

But the sounds of battle had finally died down. The war-cries had stopped, now only confused requests for reports echoed back and forth between the humans that were further away. The closer humans now saw one of their own clinging to the mottled-grey dragon, and with weapons lowered, they looked on to try and figure out just what was going on.

Norman, with one hand clutching the hole in his other arm, stared at the sight in disbelief. There was no mistaking the man leaning against the dragon for support. "...Talver? You....you're alive?"

(OOC: By the way, if you want to play/write the actions/words of any of the human warriors, feel free)

The human warriors would never forget the cross between a scream and a roar that came from Sya when the sword went through her flesh. Even the male dragon hadn't let out a cry like that, but then again the sword had probably sliced his vocal cords. It over shadows Norman's cry of pain by a long shot. Luckily Sya recognizes Talver, and grounds to a halt before he looses his hold with his other arm and gets trampled himself under her weight. She dips her head, panting, protecting her human ally from any more rocks. Thick almost black in color blood continues to drip from her stomach wound. With her thrashing from before the shaft of the arrow had broken off in Sya's tail. Sya watches Norman carefully, her eyes darting between him and where he had dropped his sword, which is still slick with her blood.

The young warrior that had spoken earlier just felt sick to his stomach. Looking closely at the dragoness, he could see the fear shining in Sya's eyes. And the way that she's holding herself to protect their once thought dead leader... He's not the only one that's truly looking and seeing Sya, including how her eyes dart between Norman and the dropped weapon. Some of the quickest among them come to the same realization that Talver had at Farrith's grave higher on the mountain. Several drop their shields in spears, looking anywhere but Sya and Talver.

The young warrior cleared his throat, trying to gather his thoughts. "She isn't no unthinking monster...Is she?" He hoping Talver will so no, and they hadn't just attacked something that can think and take revenge on them all for surprise attack.

Fortunately for Talver, with the combination of the rock striking him hadn't been too severe and the adrenaline coursing through him, he was able to shake off his daze relatively quickly. Indeed, nearly all of the humans were trying to make sense of what they were seeing, which was clearly the dragoness and the former captain trying to shield and protect each other. Then the question on everyone's mind rang out, from the mouth of one of the younger men.

"She...she can think.." Talver managed to get out while fighting off an oncoming headache. "She can think like you or I. She can talk. She has feelings. And she...she had a husband..." He tried to explain. "And we...I...I killed her husband. That's why...she took me. They aren't beasts. They just needed food for the winter. They...they wanted to have kids..."

The men all around could scarcely believe their ears, as the rest of the straggling humans also arrived to hear the speech. Norman was just gaping openmouthed at Talver. "Talver...but...you're our captain...you led us so well out here..."

Talver shook his head. "I'm not your captain. I made a terrible mistake, and...I can't lead you any more. Besides, it..." Talver then squinted at the sword in the grass, the one Norman had dropped. "...Is that my sword? Guess you didn't waste any time settling into your new role, huh?" Talver said with an amused huff. Norman sputtered and tried to explain, but Talver held up a hand. "It's no problem, it's what having a chain of command is for. As long as you learn from today, I think you'll do fine in my place, Captain Norman. I know you, your heart's in the right place. Just...I think everyone should leave, now. Gather up anyone who's injured, and go home, and be glad things didn't get any worse today."

Talver then turned, and got a better look at the injury on the dragon behind him. "Oh no...Sya...hey!" Talver then called out to the militia, who had begun to organize themselves for a retreat. "Norman! Send a runner ahead, and get one of the medicine women up here to this spot as soon as possible. Have her bring a full rucksack of bandages and salves!" Talver then paused. "And you know what, leave my sword here, I might have need of it someday, and it's one of my most valued posessions. And bring my bronze spear and my longbow when you can, it'll make hunting up here easier."

Talver then turned his full attention to his inhuman mate. "Lie down Sya, lie down...keep off the wound...how bad is it? Shake your head if it's really bad, nod your head if you think it's not too bad. I dunno if it would be a good idea for you to change forms, I don't know how injuries work if you do that..." Talver chattered away. He knew Sya couldn't really respond unless she shifted, but talking things out helped Talver stay focused.

With terms like husband and kids, a collective shiver went through the warriors. A few of them think of the same time of the old saying that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and this is certainly true for this female. They take Talver's advise and start to head for home.

When Talver asked about the sword, Sya let out a long, simmering growl, bearing her teeth, not the kind that means that she's experiencing pleasure for several seconds. That sword had injured her and killed Farrith. No way that he's bringing that foul thing into the den! She would make sure that thing is resting on the bottom of the deepest mountain lake before allowing it there.

When he suggested laying down, Sya gave him a look like he's insane. She would not take a position of such weakness with an armed mob around. She does however bring her tail into sight, the broken off arrow still there. Sya nodded to his first comment and no to his second. Changing shape right at the moment would only make her wounds much worse, and potentially fatal. Still, she doesn't know what to think about human healers crawling all over her and trying to fix her wounds. Certainly she would need help removing the arrow, but the sword wound shouldn't be to bad with a little bit of heat and being kept clean.

Talver turned his head towards Sya when he heard her very displeased growl when he mentioned his sword. On second thought, he realized that may not have been the best idea, given Sya's state. At this point, he wanted her to be better and happy, and he didn't want to antagonize her. "Erm...sorry, Sya, I won't do anything with it right now. I'll just leave it over there in the grass, and if it really means that much to you, I'll throw it away later, after you're all better." Talver said apologetically.

When Sya gave him a weird look after he asked her to lie down, however, he wasn't sure what she meant by that. Talver just sighed and let her have her way. But, on the other hand, she did bring her tail around to Talver, and after Talver examined it for a moment, he winced when he realized there was a broken arrowhead stuck in her very sensitive tail-tip. Knowing how sensitive she was there, that would be horrendous to get out, and he knew it was very possible that if it was removed wrong, she might lose feeling in her tail. It wouldn't be the end of the world, but she wouldn't be able to feel good from it again. Talver gingerly held onto her tail to keep it steady, and very lightly used a finger to prod around her wound, to get an idea of which parts of her tail hurt, listening to if she growled at a poke. Talver back to Sya's face. "I don't want to try removing this without at least using some of the medicine woman's salve to numb your tail first, I'm not sure I can get it out without causing you pain, and that might make things worse if you jerk the wrong way." He explained to her. "Is that okay with you?"

If he thinks it wouldn't be the end of the world, he clearly hadn't had to use his tail for flight. The tip of her tail sort of acts like a rudder, helping her balance in the air and the sensitive nerve network gives her information about the surrounding. Although she could fly without that precious input, it would not be the same. The closer he gets to the wound the louder her growl become.

Sya watches him gravely while he speaks to her. The risk of damage to her tail is greater then her dislike for other humans right now. At least it would be a female tending to her. Sya nodded, warily looking around to make sure all of the armed men are gone before slowly laying down.

Miranda, one of the healers from the village, had seen nothing like a dragon before. She had heard the stories from the warriors and seen the things taken from the other dragon, but she hadn't expected Sya to be as big as she is. The middle age women felt a shiver go through her as she felt the eyes of the dragon focus in on her. Behind her the men that had guided her up to the sight of the battle shifted as well. They're staying well back from the injured female. "Alright Talver, what seems to be the matter?" In answer Sya brought her tail forward again, presenting that as the most urgent matter.

(ooc: You can control Mirand as needed.)

Though Talver was ignorant of how Sya used her tail in flight, he still wanted to be sure that she could be fixed without any lasting damage. At the moment, however, there was nothing Talver could really do. After some time, the medicine woman arrived up the mountain, escorted by a few of the men. She approached tentatively, but started opening her medicines and herbs back as she asked what the problem was. Talver raised an eyebrown when Sya insisted on her tail again over the slash on her belly, wasn't she still bleeding badly down there? But Talver took a quick look, and noticed that the the blood in the wound had mostly clotted and congealed by now, reduced to a small trickle.

Miranda cautiously eyed the dragoness for a moment, but then turned her full attention to the arrowhead stuck in the tail. Most of the medicine women actually did have experience with such wounds, either when bandits tried to raid the village or if some of them and the men were drafted into the local army. The woman examined the damage, then started rummaging in her bags. "It's stuck in there badly, against the tendons and bones. I have to apply the numbing salve...and I will also have to use a knife to widen the wound a little to get it out cleanly. Keep the tail still, if it moves around any more, the arrowhead will keep grinding and may cause irreversible damage." She said, mostly to Talver, as she didn't quite understand the situation with the dragon. Talver looked up and nodded to Sya. "It's the only way, she knows what she's doing." He hoped she wouldn't protest too badly.

The medicine woman took out a vial of liquid and a few preserved leaves from her bad. She poured some of the liquid onto Sya's tail wound, then crushed the leaves in her hand to release their oil, which she dripped in as well. In moments, Sya could feel a strong tingling sensation in her tail, before all feeling went away. "Okay, Talver, hold...here. Keep it still. When I say so, squeeze hard." The woman said as she took out a small, but very sharp knife from her pack as well as some small tongs while Talver did as she said. "Okay...squeeze now." The woman then used the knife to cut away what little flesh could be spared, before she used the tongs to very slowly and carefully pull the arrowhead out of Sya's tail, bit by bit.

Finally, it was out. Miranda dropped the arrowhead aside and pulled out another bottle, this one filled with thick paste. "I need to put this in the wound and bandage it up, so an abscess doesn't form." She applied the paste, then took out clean linen strips and wrapped them tightly around Sya's tail. "Is there anything else?"

Talver nodded. "A large cut on her belly...Sya, could you lean on your side?" The man said as he looked back to Sya's face.

Miranda, on the other hand, blinks at Talver. "Her name is Sya?"

Superficial damage Sya could fix with a little bit of fire and a little bit saliva in order to keep the wound clean. But messing around with tendons, bones, and nerves is a bit beyond her ability. Sya badly wanted to twitch her tail in agitation, but that would only make removing the arrow more difficult. Sya closed her eyes and turned her head away while Miranda applied copious amounts of the numbing cream to the area.

Sya has a different idea to simply letting Miranda tend to her side. She craned her head about, examining the wound herself. She knows if the healer woman gets to poking at it, the wound might starting bleeding a bit worse again. Sya took a deep breath, lifted a front limb, and gently blew fire over the wound, making sure that it wouldn't bleed any more. That finished, she gave the humans a look that says that they may now proceed. She moved to sit almost like a dog, so that one wing wouldn't be pinned during treatment.

Both Talver and Miranda watched Sya carefully, as Sya didn't seem to be allowing them to approach her other wound immediately. Instead, she surprised the both of them by craning her head around, and cauterizing the gash with a concentrated exhaling of her own fire. Talver blinked, but Miranda let out a small yelp and jumped backwards, which also alarmed the men hanging back, but Talver quickly waved them down. "It's okay, nothing's wrong, she just needed to use her fire for a moment, not at us."

Miranda, while shaking her head, returned to examine the freshly-seared wound. "Hmm...actually, this isn't too bad. The cut is large, but appears mostly superficial. Using the fire on it also not only sealed it up, but cleaned it out...I want to apply some burn salve anyway, though." Miranda procured another jar from her bag, and smeared another kind of paste into the cut until she was satisfied. "Alright, that should do it." The healer said as she put her thins away and stood back up, looking at Talver. "You'll need to keep her from laying down on the wound to keep it from getting dirty again and to let it heal." She instructed, apparently still not used to the idea of talking to a dragon, though she did glance at Sya for a moment, then back to Talver. "You're...not coming back to the village, Talver? You're going to stay with this...dragon? 'Sya'?" She asked in a hesitant voice.

Talver nodded. "That's right. I've kinda got a new home now. Don't know how long I'll be staying...but it will probably be awhile. Months at least, if not years."

Miranda regarded Talver with a look that suggested she may have thought him crooked in the head, but she shrugged and turned away. "Not the kind of decision I would have expected from you...but I suppose it is your decision." She headed back over to the other men to start going back down the mountain, while another man arrived carrying a long spear with a bronze tip, a shortbow, and a quiver of arrows. Talver walked over to the man, who passed the weapons to Talver.

With his gear, Talver then returned to Sya's side. "Okay...whenever you feel up to it, I'll walk with you back to the cave. I'll...leave my sword here for now until we can actually talk about it." He said in a soft voice, and ready to start walking by Sya's side when she was.

Sya looked first pleased then annoyed when the healer woman spoke. Dragons had been learning about wound healing long before humans had started exploring the uses for the plants that make up her salves. If Sya could talk she would tell Miranda about dragon law, how according to her kind Talver's life is now in her claws. Silently she watched the other man bring Talver his weapons, which she likes being near her only slightly more then the sword laying in the grass.

By now her adrenaline rush had worn off. With a grunt Sya got to her feet and took off through the forest, wanting only the safety of her cave and some sleep. When they reach the den Sya goes straight to the dark back, seeking out the softness of the grass nest to cushion her injured body.

The first thing that Sya checks on when she wakes up is the status of the tears in her wing tissue and the injury to her tail. She flexed it a bit, testing to see how painful it is at the moment. She winced and grumbled a bit, the salve having worn off.

Talver followed along with Sya the whole way into the cave, making sure she settled down securely into her nest, after which he laid his spear aside in the cave, but double-checked his bow. "I lost the carcass I was bringing back, so I need to go get another one. I'll make sure it's nice and fat to be a good meal for you. I'll be back in a few hours." He said to the dragoness, before he turned and exited the cave. True to his word, he returned three hours later as the sun began to set, dragging in a dead deer, which he brought around to Sya's head so she could easily snap it up, though he cut off part of a leg with a stone knife, which he set about cleaning and cooking for himself. After he had finished eating, he moved over to the nest with Sya, and snuggled up to her neck to fall asleep.

****

By the time Sya woke up, there were several rabbits laid out for her, but Talver was nowhere to be seen. The holes in her wings weren't too bad and had already begun to heal, though flying still probably wasn't a good idea yet. Her tail still had the bandages on, and stung significantly, feeling like something had taken a bite out of it. However, it would probably fully heal in time. Likewise, the belly-wound ached, but had already begun to start closing up.

Sya easily snapped up the several hours old dear carcass and the rabbits that Talver had laid out for her. Her body needs the energy for wound healing and egg making. Speaking of Sya looked at her belly to see if she could find anything different other then the aching gash in her flesh. She's hoping that the wounds won't affect the pips. No matter how much they mate if she doesn't have the energy to fuel her reproductive cycle she either wouldn't produce eggs or they would come out with soft shells and no viable pips.

The dragoness let out a sigh like noise, remembering her first supposed clutch of eggs. She and Farrith had mated in the late fall, when game in the mountains and the forest around it had still been plentiful. Then the winter had come hard and fast, something that they had been expecting. What they hadn't been expecting was the humans taking more then their share. When the prey became scarce Sya suffered the dragon version of a miscarriage. The eggs had been weak, with almost rubbery like shells instead of the hard fire proof casings required for hatching pips. Sya gave one last sigh before turning her senses to see where her human mate had gotten off to.

Talver sighed as he dragged a fresh deer kill back towards Sya's cave. Not from the chore, but rather because he was deep in thought. The events of yesterday were weighing heavily on his mind. Over and over, Sya's roar of pain echoed in his memory, awakening a deep fear inside Talver beyond simple battle-panic. Realizing what that fear was made Talver think harder about himself and what he wanted than he ever had before.

He couldn't stand the thought of losing Sya.

He had only known the dragoness for a few days, but already he felt connected to her, more than just because he was responsible for her previous mate's death. He genuinely cared about her now, and wanted to be with her.

When Talver was a young lad, he was drafted into the local kingdom's army to fight some minor skirmishes. Talver had survived in the army for several years, making a veteran of himself, but always fighting other people's battles, at other people's commands. After Talver had made captain some years later, he volunteered to lead a militia attachment to a group of frontier-exploring peasants. He was never sure why he chose to do that, upon reflection, it was more that he hadn't yet found what he really wanted to live for, and felt that frontier exploration might help him find a place that he'd be willing to settle down in. But even so, he still wasn't fighting for himself, just for other people. They'd made their way to woods at the base of this mountain, where they'd staked their claim and began to raise homes, and Talver oversaw the defense. They'd heard that dragons dwelled in these mountains, but insisted on staying anyway, so Talver nodded and led the militia to keep the town safe. He'd kept himself warm with a few of the women in the town; as captain, he never wanted for a girl who'd willingly get into his bed, but he never felt true companionship with any of them. Then their cattle and livestock herds were being raided by one of the great flying lizards...and the rest was history.

But now Talver was sure. He wanted to be with Sya, and he wanted companionship with her. Her independant, fiery (no pun intended) personality stuck a chord with Talver, attracted him in a way he couldn't explain. But he just knew, even if he was sure that children weren't possible, that he wanted to stay with her.

Finally, Talver reached the mouth of the cave, with his burden in tow. As his eyes adjusted to the darker cave, he saw the outline of Sya's huge draconic form moving about on her straw-bed slightly. "Ah, you're awake. That's good. How are you feeling? I've got another deer for you, you're going to need to keep up your strength..." The words came out a little quicker than Talver had intended, but he was concerned for her.

Sya padded forward when she heard the sounds of his footsteps coming closer, her claws making gentle tapping sounds on the stone floor. Although her hunger had been chased away for the moment by the dear that he had left by her head it is a good idea to eat again. She nodded to say that she's doing fine, if a little achy. Sya reached her head down to nuzzle him lightly, inquiring about himself. It had to have taken some energy to have done all that hunting. The questions shine in Sya's eyes since she can't vocalize them.

Talver tilted his head up when he realized Sya had gotten up from her straw-bed and was walking towards him. He let down the fresh deer carcass to the side and held up a hand to her. "Whoa, hey, should you really be getting up and walking around?" Though she seemed to nod at him when he asked how she was doing. He tilted his head. "You're...doing fine? You sure? Well, you still should take it easy, I can handle things out here. I'll make sure you get all the food you need."

The dragoness then got to Talver and seemed to ignore the deer for a moment, instead nudging him with her nose and looking at him with her big lizardy eyes. "...What is it, Sya?" Talver asked as he raised a hand to stroke it along her head and neck, somewhat confused at what she wanted, but the way she was looking at him... "Are...you worried about me?" Talver blinked. "Sya, I'm fine, I'm not...the one who got hurt. You really should rest and get better, I...I don't want you to get hurt again..." Talver said in a soft, concerned voice. Something seemed a little different, this was the first time he spoke to her like that.

Sya nodded again to give hims assurance that she is doing fine. She wishes that she could talk and tell him that laying around and doing nothing would only drag the wound healing out. She had rested yesterday and couldn't stand simply laying around doing nothing anyway. She would take breaks if needed, but there's still much to be done around the den. Sya tilted her head, picking up on the tone in his voice. Dragons are hardy creatures, and rebound from things easily, so he shouldn't be so worried about her injuries that much. Of course it would help if she could tell him such information, but she'll have to make due for now.

Talver continued to gently rub Sya's neck as she still indicated that she was fine, despite Talver's concerns. He also picked up how she looked quizzically at him after he admited his particular concern. Talver looked up at her, and just looked straight into her eyes with his own brown oness. He held her gaze for several moments, but not with a challenging expression, more that Sya could tell he was thinking very hard about something. Even though he knew Sya couldn't speak to him at the moment, he was still wresting with if he should tell her what he was thinking, what he was feeling...but, finally, he decided no good would come of dancing around or ignoring it. He had to get it off his chest.

"Sya..." Talver started, and then sighed, as he was still trying to figure out how to start this. "Sya, can we lie down together and talk? Just for a little bit? I know you can't speak to me right now, but I...I want to talk. I want to tell you something."

Although not as pleasant as his massage, his rubbing is still rather nice. Sya met his gaze while he thinks, wondering what's going through his head. She tipped her head to the side in a quizzical manner when he said her name and then stopped. She gave him a small nudge with her muzzle again before turning to head for the the grass nest. Before laying down again she stretches out, joints and other things popping as she settles down. She tilted her head again, waiting for him to start speaking.

Talver contentedly leaned into Sya's gentle nudge, and watched her lizardly form return to the nest to lie down, and look back at him expectantly. Talver walked over to her as she was getting comfortable, and sat down against Sya's side so he could lean against her warm body. He was quiet for a few moments, allowing himself to get lost in the feeling of Sya's breath making her sides rise and fall slightly, and the sound of her heartbeat calmly thudding against him. Finally, he seemed to get his thoughts in order, and opened his mouth to Talk.

"Sya...I realized something yesterday." He started. "I was working on dragging my hunt back here when...when I heard your roar of pain echo through the forest. I have never been so scared in my life than when I heard that sound. I ran, I ran as fast as I possibly could to get to you. The most important thing in my entire life, right then, was making sure you were okay." Talver took a slow, deep breath. "Because...because I could not bear to consider the thought of something happening to you. I couldn't bear the thought of losing you. Earlier, I submitted to your claim over me when I realized how I had done wrong to you because I felt genuinely remorseful. But this...this is something different."

Talver turned his head to the side so he could look forward down Sya's body towards her head, to look into her slitted eyes. "I think...I love you, Sya. Though you're a dragon, you are an amazing woman with the most wonderful, proudest, and strongest spirit I've ever met. I've never felt this way about anyone before. Even if...even if children aren't possible for us, I would want to stay with you anyway for as long as I could. And...I can't stand the idea of you getting hurt again. I want to protect you." He finished up, and waited for Sya's reaction. Even though she still couldn't speak to him, he was attentive enough to be able to read whatever her general attitude about his confession would be.

Sya waited for him to get comfortably and get his thoughts in order. She looks intently at him when he starts speaking. She doesn't know what to make of it when he admits that he couldn't bear the thought of losing her and that he thinks that he loves her. Certainly over the past couple days she had grown fond of him, what with is protectivness and his hunting for her. But love... Maybe not there yet. What she had with Farrith had definitely been love. She thinks that she will never get anything like that again, but then again Talver is not a dragon and cannot love her as a dragon could. In answer Sya nuzzled him with her muzzle again, caressing him as gently as possible. Perhaps in time she would grow to love him, especially since he had chosen to stay with her.

Talver took Sya's gentle nuzzle as encouragement, or at least acceptance, and contentedly leaned his own head onto hers as he stroked her along the side of her muzzle with his hand again. Talver stayed there with her for a few moments, but eventually he took a breath and moved to stand up. "So, uh, guess I'll get started on the things that need doing today...I still say you should take it easy, but, well...you'll do whatever you want to do, I'm sure." Talver then headed for the mouth of the cave, to go out and continue gathering materials he needed to both build a shelter and anything that might be useful in tending to Sya.

(OOC: I'm thinking this is a good place to timeskip a few days until Sya is healed enough that she can shapeshift again, if that's alright with you.)

About a week after Talver's confession, Sya feels that's it's safe enough to change shapes again. Both her wounds had healed nicely, though there still is a bit of a scar on the tip of her tail were the new scales had yet to slough off. She had ate well the night before, making sure that she has enough energy to fuel the change. Something feels a bit off when she shrinks down from her true form. Something her middle feels congested, like it isn't flexing and shrinking like it should. Gingerly Sya felt over her abdomen, both pleased and slightly frightened when it felt harder then it should underneath her scales. Had this been her first time, she wouldn't have suspected anything...In this form it's much easier to tell the changes happening in her body. Still, even if she thinks what's happening is happening, she would wait a bit to tell Talver, just to make sure.
