Ancient Friends [WolfXSong]

He chuckled. "Dummy, if I leave you here then there is no reason for me to continue on." he said. Ix struggled against her. "Although I might consider knocking you out so you'll stop being such a fuss!" he growled, holding her still. "You're making this harder for me. I'm not killing myself, I promise, remember while you have lead a life of being pampered and comforted, I have trained for moments like this."

He set her down and told her to climb on his back. It would be easier if he carried her piggy-back style. "Don't worry about it Miss Sabah, I want to save you because that is my life's work, because you are the only hope for our country now. I also want to save you because..." he trailed off. What was he about to say? He shook his head. "Because we grew up together" he amended. Ix blushed and continued hurrying through the weeds with her.

She sighed and then finally wrapped an arm around his neck and sighed smiling looking at him. She shook her head and smiled and kissed his cheek gently and rested her head on his shoulder calming down. "I am sorry Ix, I just don't see the big bother that people have put on me. I don't see why I am so valuable that people kill others just for a chance to murder me. Why not just sneak into my chambers while I am asleep and finish me off?" She sighed and watched the river. She giggled as she moved onto his back and wrapped her arms loosely around his neck. She couldn't help but laugh.

"You know, you used to always give me piggy backs when we were growing up." She smiled she didn't think anything of his reason for saving her. She loved him, she had known talking to her betrothed, but she didn't mind he didn't love her, she could love him enough for the both of them. She wiggled her toes and frowned. "I don't think I will ever have lovely feet again."

Ix nodded. "Well that's why you have the palace guards and that's why you have me. I'm sure there are people who would want to sneak into your chambers and do you in or put some poison in your food. That just shows how valuable you are, because if you were gone forever, it would make a difference." he explained. "For the people of our country you are their beloved. You are their ruler. You represent hope. If you die now then our country will surely fall to a brutal regime. If you care at all about your people then you will fight tooth and nail, day and night until you cannot fight any more, and then you will fight some more so that they can have hope in you. Even if you conquer a city, you can never defeat a people if they still have hope. You are that hope" he said. This was all very clear to him. When he trained with his father, physical feats were not the only part of his tutelage.

He was caught off guard by her small kiss and he smile a little, holding onto her as he carried her over the silt and sand. "I remember giving you piggy back rides. I imagined what it would be like when you could ride on me in my wolf form" he added. "Now you have, although it doesn't seem to be that comfortable for you. Maybe we can put a blanket over me next time." He looked down at her feet as she fussed over them. "Your feet are going to heal just fine. We're going to get them fresh bandages in the next town over" he promised. "We'll also figure out a way for you to ride me comfortably. With a little rest I can go full again and then there's no way they'll catch me!" he grinned.

She listened to his words. She smiled and nodded loving the words he said. They gave her hope, but immediately her falling mood obliterated it. She sighed. "My attackers probably told everyone that I was killed in the raid. They will try to make it seem that I am dead and no one will believe I am alive."

"It wasn't that you were uncomfortable, it was just that I was so exhausted and trying to remain hidden on you. You are comfortable, don't bother. I will find a way that will suit us just fine. It is just strange riding your best friend that you grew up with." She giggled and held him softly and rested her head against his shoulders and looked at her feet. She chuckled and then stroked his hair a bit she was so delirius from tiredness and hunger and pain she really didn't realize she was stroking his hair and she looked at him. "Ix, you are a great friend, you have been a great friend for all my childhood and your a very great friend to me right now." I love you. She added gently to herself and looked at him.

Ix nodded but smiled. "What happens to the scraggly trees by the banks when the wind blows?" he asked. "They bend right? And if an even stronger wind blows, if a sandstorm invades it might even fall down. But what about the papyrus? There's a lot more of that. When the wind blows it falls over, but given time, or if the wind blows the other way, the papyrus stands back up." He recited. "The city is the tree and it has fallen, but the people are the papyrus and when we figure out how to strike back, we can reveal that you are alive and they will come back and rise up even stronger and taller than before!" he said happily. "So you see, you don't have to worry. It's better that people don't know that you're alive because if they did then they might fight against the invaders little by little, and they would suffer. If we suddenly reveal that you exist, then they will all rise like a giant wind is blowing, and eventually the tree that is the invaders will fall down."

He looked over his shoulder at her. "But if I can make my plans work out the way I want them to, the tree that represents the invaders will burn instead" he said with an eerie conviction. "Don't worry Miss Sabah. We're going to fight for our nation and win!"

He listened to her thoughts on riding him, "Well okay" he said. "Don't feel strange about it, I actually kinda like having you on my back like that!"

She smiled as she listened to him talk. She grinned and nodded. He knew what she needed to hear and his words brought her great comfort. She felt them sinking in and filling her with such unshakable hope. She shut her eyes and smiled and nodded. "Then watch it burn we will, Ix. I will continue to fight just for that." She smiled and nodded and looked into the night and grinned softly. "We will win. You and me and my people will fight and win." She smiled and blushed as she yawned and leaned in and looked at the papyrus.

She smiled and chuckled and nodded. "Your fur is so soft. I am happy that I could finally see you as a full wolf. I am glad that I pestered you for so long." She smiled and sighed and looked up seeing the sun slowly rise up in the distance. She shut her eyes and yawned.

Ix nodded. "Well, to be totally honest with you, I wasn't able to go all the way until tonight. When I saw you in such immediate danger. Well, when I heard those men. I got so angry and so concerned for you, I didn't even do it consciously. One moment I was Ix the boy and then I was Ix the wolf. There was no in between. It was just like my body changed just because it needed to, in order to protect you. So, thank you."

He looked out over the nile, reflecting the pink and purples of the rising sun. He couldn't believe it was that late. If he had been traveling at the speed he projected, they should be even past the second town. They could make it to the third town over tonight! He realized he was factoring their travel time based on her limping pace, but now that he was carrying her, the desire to protect her had overwhelmed his muscle fatigue and had let him travel fast with her. He share this news with her. "I'm glad, we're a little safer now" he said happily.

She chuckled as he thanked her for helping him. She didn't see just how she had helped him but shrugged and took the compliment. She chuckled and looked at him and smiled and nodded. "Well you are most welcome. Anytime you need me to be in danger, you name it." She teased and then looked up at the rising sun and shook her head. "I had never watched the sun rise."

She sighed and then nodded gently to him. She was indeed happy that they were near the end of the first leg of their journey. She sighed and hugged him tightly from behind. She shut her eyes and smiled. She sighed and leaned back and yawned again as her stomach rolled and she blushed giggling. She smiled and nodded looking at him.

"Well, you do have a bit of a talent for getting into trouble" he grumbled. "You've never seen the sunrise? Well we better stop!" he said. He let her down and they stood and watched the sun for 5 or 10 minutes until most of the show was over. He smiled over at her. "Nice to watch it together huh?" he asked, picking her back up and continuing on towards the town. Soon enough they cold see evidence of a town nearby. "Miss Sabah, we've made it" he said excitedly. He pointed to where there was a little smoke rising from some of the early morning cooking fires of the town.

"I do not!" She gasped and chuckled and shook her head. Yes she had a nack for getting into trouble but it wasn't her fault. She smiled and then stood and took his hand in the time they watched it. She sighed and looked at him and nodded. "It is nice to watch it with you, but it is much better to sleep in in a nice warm bed. I miss it." She chuckled and then leaned into his back as they walked toward town. She sighed and almost sobbed in relief. She bounced a bit and then moved down, she took off running. "WARM BEDS! HOT BATHS! AND BANDAGES!" She roared at the top of her lungs taking off in a run and half limp wincing every time she came down on her feet.

Ix blushed, but didn't pull his hand away when she took it. It was comforting, for both of them, he was sure. He laughed when she mentioned the warm bed she wanted to indulge in. "Well I don't know how warm it will be but we'll get you a place to rest in the hospital" he said. "They'll let you stay a bit, I'm sure" he said. They had to plan carefully how they were going to approach this. She'd have to remain hidden if her existence was to be a secret still. Only a very few select people could know she was in the town.

It was while he was caught up in his planning that she took off yelling at the town. He growled and rolled his eyes, dashing after her and catching up to her, slipping a hand over her mouth. "Miss Sabah!" he scolded. "You're not supposed to be alive right now, remember?" he said. "Also there are people searching for you" he said, letting her go. "...Not your fault that you get in trouble" he scoffed under his breath. "Come on now you're going to hurt your feet even more than you already have"

She sighed. It was comforting that Ix let Sabah hold his. She leaned into him and listened to him talking. She nodded gently and frowned and bit.

She was quick on her feet, not realizing that she was bleeding through the bandages again. She screamed in honest to goodness terror as she was clutched from behind and his hand over her mouth. She screamed but stopped realizing it was Ix. She whimpered and looked at the town. Of course Ix spoke the truth, he always did, however she wanted nothing more to throw herself down on the sand and cry in frustration. She looked down and crossed her arms as he rubbed it in. She walked behind him kicking her feet. They hurt, but not as much as her ego.

Ix looked back at her. "Oh come on, we'll get you a head scarf to wear so people don't know who you are" he said. He could tell she was feeling a bit chided and rebuffed. He stopped and took her hand in his. "Remember what we're doing all of this for" he whispered, leading her into the town. By now people were starting to move about the buildings. He snagged a head scarf from a clothes line, quietly apologizing to whoever's clothes they were...borrowing.

He handed the scarf to her. "Wrap it" he instructed. "We can get you to the hospital as soon as nobody can identify you"

She sighed and nodded. She followed him and saw him pluck a lovely dark purple head scarf. She sighed adn then began to expertly wrap it around her face and head as only her eyes peeked out. She smiled and took his hand and smiled winking. "Is this good enough? Can you tell who I am now?" She sighed and looked at him and grinned softly.
