Ceremonial Killer (Haruchai x BeauteousDeath)

Jordan nodded, "Yeah, I know we don't have enough to figure out who it is, or at least who the next victime would be," she replied back softly as she picked up her coffee and sipped at it, then she shook her head, "I don't think so, just given the information we have, I was wondering if there was anything you had in mind," she continued on with a small shrug of her shoulders.

Cross shook his head and mixed in some cream and sugar for his coffee. "I'm actually at a bit of a loss. We need some sort of break. I hate that we have to wait for another victim, but we really need them to leave another clue, as callous as that sounds." It was easy to tell that this whole thing disheartened Cross.

Jordan nodded as she sighed, "I know what you mean," she told him softly. She was used to this sort of thing happening, it didn't make it any less stressful and depressing though. She sat back then as the waiter came back with their food and set their respective plates before them. Once he was gone, Jordan picked up her fork, spread her napkin on her lap and started eating with more gusto than what has been seen prior. She honestly was surprised on how hungry she was feeling.

Cross watched her start to eat and did so himself, tucking into his food hungrily. Liberally broken up with sips of coffee, the breakfast was rather good and the company was excellent. Cross found himself looking forward to Christmas at her house, despite the case they were working on.

Soon the meal was done and Cross sat back and patted his belly. He smiled at Jordan. "That was great. Not my favorite thing to eat, but still damn good." He grinned and looked at her meaningfully and took another sip of coffee. "Just let me know when you're ready to go baby." he said and prepared to relax for a few minutes before hitting the road.

As she finished eating was when he stated the food he had eaten wasn't his favorite thing to eat, she couldn't help but chuckle at that comment. She drank the last dregs of her coffee and too her wallet out and set a few bills on the table after receiving the check. Though the waiter had set the check closest to Cross, Jordan quickly grabbed it and stuck her tongue out at Cross while grinning and paying the bill. Then she stood and out the restaurant they went, "As much as I've liked our time outside of New York and the wonderful distraction you've provided," she said as she slipped her hand in his, "I am going to enjou being home again," she finished saying as they got closer to the car.

He smiled and let her pay, not minding in the least. As he escorted her out to their SUV and she spoke of her happiness to be home, he smiled and nodded. "I understand." he said. "You have a family and everything. I'm sure you miss them." He wasn't sure what else to say after that, unsure if that was her way of telling him that things were over once they were back. That was what it had sounded like - "as much as she'd liked their time..."

Cross suddenly felt deflated. He managed a weak smile and helped her into the SUV and patted her knee before he shut the door. He walked around the back, breathing heavy, heart in his throat as he contemplated what to do. He had no choice but to take her home, get on with the case, and then, eventually, let her go.

Swallowing his emotions he walked slowly to the driver's side and got in. Starting the vehicle without a word he started to back out.

She buckled herself in and looked over, green eyes narrowing some as she saw the change in him. What the hell? She wondered to herself. She leaned toward's the driver's side and continued looking at him, her right eyebrow arched slightly, "What's going through that head right now, Cross?" she asked him. She really was clueless in how he took her words, she didn't realize how he was taking them, she certainly didn't mean for him to think she was trying to end things between them. That was, for the moment, the last thing she wanted to do.

He made her feel too good, she wanted him more than needed him, but she sure as hell did need him in any way she could get him.

Cross glanced her way, but really did have to keep his eyes concentrated on the road. "I, uh... well I got the impression that when we get back, and especially after this case, that you kinda wanted to... you know... end things." He smiled softly, sheepishly, obviously wishing he was wrong.

"I'm just used to people saying things like that. 'as much as I like...' and then it is always a 'but' added to that. But I understand." He didn't look at her now, and it was obvious he was hurt.

Her eyes widened in surprise, and she shook her head, "Pull over, Cross," she told him, "I think we need to get a few things straightened out," she continued on. Then she remained silent as she waited for his response, she really hoped he would find a spot to pull over quickly because at that moment, she not only wanted to crawl over him and kiss him hard, she sort of had the urge to throttle the man. Though she was certainly supressing that urge, she was letting the more passionate one reign for the moment.

With a nod Cross winced and began looking for a spot. There, a weigh station. Closed, but still cleared out. He pulled in and slid the SUV into 'park' and then sat there, chewing his bottom lip nervously, waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Jordan unbuckled and climbed over to his lap, from there she pulled on the lever to his seat to have it lay back all the way, then she pushed her hair back as she leaned down kissed him on the lips hard and long and full of passion. Her hands moved over his chest and sides, fingertips pressing into him. Once she was done kissing him, she pulled back just slightly, enough to look at him, and she sounded slightly breathless, "I'm not ending things, Cross, not right now, not until we both figure out what this is, and where it takes us," she told him softly as she pressed her forehead against his, "You feel too good for me to end it, and you make me feel too good when I'm around you," she continued on quietly, "I only meant, that as much as I enjoyed having you to myself completely the last couple of days and you having me to yourself, its time for us to go into the real world, but I want you to stick around for as long as you want."

Cross was obviously surprised as Jordan took charge and planted the kiss on him. He wrapped his arms about her and listened as she spoke. It wasn't what he had thought at all. He relaxed beneath her and just listened to her. Her voice a comfort, and her words a balm. He nodded. "I'll stay as long as you'll have me. I'm not sure what this is either, but I want to find out. Even if it breaks my heart."

He spoke from the heart, and was a true believer in "It is better to have loved and lost..."

She smiled at him and nodded then kissed him more gently before she slowly, more like hesitantly, moved away from him and settled back in her seat once more, after they had gotten back into their positions that was a bit more correct for the car, they started on the road again.

After what seemed like an eternity, Jordan hated driving long distance, she was too damned impatient for it, they finally arrived in New York City.

December 23rd
1:07am

The drive had been exhausting. The road conditions had slowed everything down to a crawl, and they'd stopped to eat as well. The tension had finally melted away once they'd stopped and it was almost like a road trip for Cross, though Jordan didn't seem to enjoy it much.

Still, there was an overwhelming sense of accomplishment as Cross finally pulled up outside of her mother's home. He'd gotten Jordan home safe. That was all that mattered.

She slept peacefully in the seat next to him and he simply regarded her for a moment. Then, he reached over and placed one large hand on her thigh. "C'mon honey, you're home. Time to wake up."

Jordan did the only thing she could do when driving long distance. Sleep. Though it was anything but restful. When Cross pulled to stop she started stirring, then she felt his hand on her thigh and heard his words. She took in a deep breath and slowly opened her eyes and looked at him with a small smile, "Have I mentioned yet I hate driving long distances?" she murmured to him as she rubbed her face with one hand and unbuckled herself with the other.

"Where do you plan on sleeping tonight, babe?" she asked him then. She hoped he wouldn't mind going into the house with her and sleeping in her room, with her beside him of course.

Cross yawned and made no bones about it. "Honestly I was hoping I could crash here. If I have to drive to a hotel then I think I'm gonna scream." He gave her a weary wink and then removed his hand. "I hope your mom doesn't mind. I don't wanna intrude, and at the very least you know I'll show you to the door."

He shut off the Tahoe and went to get her door for her, as he always did. Little did he know that her mother watched from the front window, light sleeper and up reading, worrying.

She chuckled at that and shook her head, "I have no qualms with you staying over, and I'm sure my mother would take my head off in a split second if I didn't at least offer," she said to him as she slid out of the car, then went around back with him for them to grab their bags and head in, at which point the front door opened and Jordan saw her mother standing there smiling at her. Jordan, with her bag in hand went over and hugged her mom tightly, while also speaking softly to the older woman. Jordan's mother, Alice Owen, was simply an older version of Jordan herself.

Alice nodded lightly and looked over at Cross and gave him her right hand so they could shake hands, like Jordan, Alice had to tilt her had completely back to look Cross in the eye, "Its a pleasure to meet you, Agent Cross, I hope you two didn't encounter too much trouble while on the road?" She asked then.

Jordan smiled and shook her head with a small shrug, "I wouldn't know, I was passed out for most the drive I think," she said.

Alice laughed softly as she let the two agents enter, "You are such poor company on drives, at least you don't whine any more about it," she mentioned, then gave Cross a look of mirth, her tone clearly teasing at Jordan's youthful habits, "I hope."

Cross greeted her quietly and with respect and took her hand in his to shake. He let Jordan explain his name as she liked and then Cross laughed softly. "She was just fine. Perfect company." He grinned and refrained from placing his arm about her waist. He wasn't sure how her mom might react to that.

He stood there a moment before he asked, "Uhm, could you tell me where the restroom is?"

Alice grinned, "Of course she was, she was asleep wasn't she?" she retorted, which earned her a playful type of glare from her daughter, then Alice couldn't help but laugh at that.

Hearing his next question, she pointed down the hall, as Jordan answered him, "First door on the right," she said.

Once Alice thought he was out of earshot she looked over at her daughter, "So. Tell me," was all she said. Jordan just gave her mother an innocent look, then grinned and shrugged as she slipped her jacket off, "Good things come to those who wait, mom, I think you're the one who told me that?" she said in a sweet voice. The remark and expression earned her a swat on the shoulder.

"Hey now, don't forget, I can arrest you for child abuse," Jordan said calmly as she draped her jacket over the back of a chair and made her way to the kitchen for some water, "I'll tell you later, after I've had some rest, okay?"

Alice had followed her daughter to the kitchen and was now standing at the entrance, giving the FBI Agent a stern look with her arms folded over her abdomen, "You better if you know what's good for you miss, and don't start tossing your job in my face again," she added when Jordan looked as though she were going to spout off one of her playful insults, though Alice was smiling brightly, at which point Jordan couldn't help but return the smile with her own.

"Maybe I should let you squirm for a few days, though I'm sure you'll guess correctly by the time I'm passed out to the world again in a few minutes," Jordan said with an amused expression.

Cross knew they'd likely talk about him, but he didn't care. Jordan liked him and that was all that mattered. He took a piss, the relief spreading through his body, and then tucked himself away and washed up in the sink. Walking back out in the hall he found Jordan and Alice in the kitchen.

He was exhausted and smiled softly to them both as he asked, "So, uh, which room?" He just wanted to lie down. He could shower in the morning. Or afternoon. Whichever.

Jordan looked over at him and smiled as she set the glass in the dishwasher, she then hugged her mother and kissed her on the cheek, "Night mom," she said, "Go get some sleep, you're looking bedraggled," she added with a grin as she slipped her hand in Cross' and led him up the stairs to her bedroom, "As for you, Agent," she said to him, "You'll be sleeping in my room," she finished with a slight squeeze to his hand as she opened the door to her bedroom and flipped the switch to turn the lights on.

At that point, she let his hand go and started undressing herself, only to slip on a spaghetti strap top and matching bottoms, which were solid black, then she walked over to him and started loosening his tie, a soft smile on her lips, "Good to be out of that car," she murmured to him.

"Goodnight Alice." he said with a smile and a nod of respect. He then followed Jordan as she led him to her room. "Nice room." he said and watched as she disrobed and dressed in what he thought was the sexiest thing he'd seen in a long time. He sat on the edge of the bed and closed his eyes as she started to loosen his tie. "Mhmm." he agreed about the car and sighed.

This was what he missed. These small intimacies. These small things were what formed the backbone of a relationship. That they had fallen into an easy routine so soon... he smiled softly and opened his eyes a small bit, just looking at her. "Thank you Jordan." he said softly.

She slid the tie from around his neck after she'd untied it and draped it over the nightstand closest to him before she started sliding his dress jacket off, setting it over a chair she started unbuttoning his shirt before she looked at him in response to his words, "For what?" she asked him, a look of mild confusion on her face. She was wondering what he thanking her for. Fingertips gently grazed over his skin along his chest and abdomen as she worked her way down his shirt before sliding the article of clothing off of his shoulders and down his arms.

Cross sighed as her hands gently bereft him of his shirt, dark ink-stained tattoo now revealed once again as his eyes regarded her. "For letting me into your life." he said simply, for there was no other way for him to explain it. His hands moved to her then, resting on her hips as he simply soaked up her company.

She smiled as she continued undressing him, "That goes both ways you know," she told him softly. Once she had him down to just his boxers she pulled him closer to her bed after she'd turned the covers down. Once they were both laying down, she simply curled into him, a leg draped over his, and arm over his chest, and her head on his shoulder, "Sweet dreams, Cross," she murmured to him, in pure contentment with laying beside him like this. The closeness, the feel of him against her.
