Staring at her as she moved on hands and knees to the edge of the bed, he cursed again, licking his lips and tearing his eyes from her. When she spoke, his attention shot back to her, brow furrowed as if he didn’t comprehend what she was saying, why she was saying it. He didn’t know why he’d done what he did, though. Maybe she was just reacting. Regardless, and despite how weak her position on the matter was, when she uttered her final three words, the deal was essentially sealed. Eyes locked with hers, he pulled his shirt over his head, revealing his bare chest to her, and stepped up to the side of the bed. Looking into her eyes, he leaned down and pressed a quick kiss to her lips.
“Alright.” The pounding of his heart continued, but any indecision or nervousness had departed from him. Tipping her chin up, turning her mouth up to his, he exhaled, running the tip of his tongue along the seam of her lips before claiming them in a brief, but passionate kiss. He pulled away, taking a step back, green eyes fixated on her as he moved toward the door. “I’ll be right back.” Providing her with one last, lopsided grin, he vanished from the room and ran down the hall.
His foot caught on a rug as he jogged, sending him crashing to the floor and sliding into the kitchen cabinets as he had while his mother had been cooking dinner. “I’m alright!” he hollered, scrambling to his feet. Yanking open the door that led into the garage, he went quickly to his van and pulled open the back hatch. It hit the ceiling, but he didn’t care. Scrounging around in a black backpack, he found what he was looking for, and within seconds of slamming the hatch shut was walking back to his bedroom.
“Sorry,” he breathed, tossing the foil-wrapped package on the bed. Kicking out of his sweats, barely casting her a glance, he planted his foot in the wrong place at the wrong time. For the third time that night, he collided with the floor. This time he didn’t bother to get up, just rolled over, cursing under his breath as he shoved the sweats away. His eyes flitted to her countenance and he furrowed his eyebrows. “What?” Grinning, he rolled forward and to his feet. The open door stole his attention away, and he wandered over to shut it before turning to face her. “Do you have any idea how hard it is to get a pair of pants off when all you can think about is the girl in your bed?”
