The Witch's Tear [cevl and Magi_Monk]

The man decided that there would be more things to do then wait until she regained consciousness once more. He spoke some words infused with power, taking over the spell she had cast on the vine. It loosened from her neck, but instead went down her shirt, going inbeneath her breasts, then further down on her body, around her crotch, back up, and around her neck once more, though not as tight as it had been before. "Listen, girl." He said, letting the tip of the vine push against her chin to make her look at him. "There is nothing you can do to stop me, why do you keep fighting like this? There's nothing and noone that can stop me from taking your country, the only thing you would do is speed it up and maybe spare some people on both sides."

Mirelle gulped down several deep lungfuls of breath as the vine loosened from about her neck, only to feel it snake down underneath her shirt and between her breasts. She hissed faintly, squirming against her bindings as it slipped down her stomach and between her thighs, despite pressing her thighs together in a vain attempt to prevent it movement. Thrashing against her bindings she glared at the man in front of her, teeth grinding together as her head was tilted up toward him.

Defiance blazed within her pale eyes but as he mentioned the possibility of lives being spared, Mirelle's resolve wavered a little. "You would spare lives.....what guarantee would I have? How can I trust you?"

The vine was as strong as she had planned it to be when she cast it on him, which meant that it was even stronger then him, would it attack him. So no matter how much she tried to stop it, it would still go over her body, seen by him as it bulged her clothing. "I am not able to grant you any promise that you will accept, but if it's possible, I'd really prefer keeping most of your people, as that's the simplest way to call them now, alive. If I, or you, if you'd help me, could get them to give in to me, I would see no reason to waste precious men to kill them. Of course, if there are any who still see reason to attack us, they must be executed, but that's only logical, is it not?" The man said, explaining his thoughts. "After all, you would do the same."

What hope had been present within the young woman's eyes vanished as her eyelids slid shut and a faint, sad laugh escaped her. "And what would become of them?" Mirelle's fingers curled against her palms, the metal around her wrists cutting painfully into her skin as the vine remained wound about her body. "What reason would they have to surrender to you if all that awaits them is pain....they are a proud people, strong..." Her shoulder ached, the discomfort and danger of her current situation was beginning to wear on the young woman. She was weary, exhausted and her actions reflected this - words slow, movement lazy.

"They would come to fall under the laws of my country, and though for a while their taxes would be higher to help pay for the war, they would eventually become normal citizens. Sure, maybe once or twice I can take one of them as a plaything, but it's not like that doesn't happen now, and..." He said, walking closer to her "For the coming months, probably years even, you will probably suffice. So if you give in now, you will both keep your citizens from dying, and from becoming my playthings, though the latter is mostly only a concern from their parents, they themselves often really like how I handle them."

Mirelle drew in a deep breath, lifting her head without the guidance of the vine beneath her chin, fixing pale green eyes upon her captor. Years? Years of servitude, slavery to spare her people and even then there was no guarantee. She could agree to his terms and yet it could all be for nothing, she could not trust him. Her people were stubborn, much like her, they would not bend their knee so easily to a foreign ruler. "Release me, let me return to my people. I will talk to them. They are proud but not foolish, they know the war is over...let me convince them that if they surrender, their lives will be spared..."

The man grinned when she told him what she planned on doing, and said "Now it's my time to ask the same question you just did. How can I know for certain you will indeed do as you say so? Of course I can always plant something inside you which will sent your every action to me, nut that wouldn't feel all too nice for you, and if you just join them again, I will have to say it would be a harder battle then I originally had in mind. So tell me, what can make me think I should trust you with going to your people, convince them to surrender, and come back to me when we get into the city?"

"We both know, even with me, they cannot win this battle. Highdell will fall one way or another. I have no wish to see my people perish. As for returning to you, where will I have to run? There is no where for me to escape to.." Mirelle's mind was already ticking over, considering options, possible scenarios. There was ulterior motive to her wish to return home, her friends, her family...Raphiel. Her captor was wrong to assume that she had been able to draw close to someone, but she made no move to correct him.

The man thought for a little, then nodded "Fine." He said. The vine suddenly went back, until it was just around her neck. It then changed, forming into a necklace, looking like a green dragon biting it's own tail. "This will make sure I know what general area you are in." He said, as the chains loosened and she was dropped to the ground. "I wouldn't try to take it off. Dragons, even of that size, are strong enough to kill any human. Now, go. In a week. morndas at noon, I will march my men into the city. I will expect the gates to be open, and you standing in the middle of the open gate. If not, we will bring the city down."

Mirelle hit the ground with a faint cry, drawing herself onto her knees, a hand instantly rose to feel over the necklace that now hung about her neck. So she would be watched, that was hardly surprising, in fact she had suspected as much. Pushing herself onto her feet, the young woman straightened herself, and fixed him with an unfaltering stare. "I'll be waiting for you." She lingered no longer than was necessary, turning her back on the man and stepping out into the night air.

Eyes swiftly scanned the skies which were gradually growing lighter as dawn began to creep over the land. By the time she reached the walls of the city it would be midday, but that was only if she acquired a horse. The walk back through the camp was strangely undisturbed, occasionally soldiers approached only to back off at the sight of the green dragon resting against her chest. As such it was not difficult to commandeer a horse without anyone stopping her and within an hour she was tearing across the battlefield, flattened to the back of her mount.

A solider raised his hand to shield his eyes from the midday sun, scanning the horizon for the enemy army that they were sure was to be upon them. It was only a matter of time and the King had ordered all able men to be conscripted to join the military. Highdell would make its last stand within the week. As he turned to call the all clear to his captain, a dark spot upon the horizon caught his attention. "Sir....a lone rider! Heading this way!" Rushed footsteps followed the announcement and within a few moments three more soldiers had joined him, one carrying the stripes of higher rank.

Mirelle raised her eyes to the walls of her home, a surge of relief flooding through her. It did not take long for her to spot the small figures and with a cry, threw her hand up toward the sky, a bright burst of purple shooting up into the sky in a spray of arcane sparks. Fixing her eyes upon the gates, she continued to thunder toward the city, awaiting the response to a signal that should have been recognised easily. For some time nothing changed and Mirelle began to fear that she would not be permitted entrance, pulling up upon the reigns to slow her horse. "Come on..."

Finally the gates began to draw back, shouts echoing along the walls as the magess spurred her mount on and thundered through and up into the city. No one stopped her and she did not hesitate, instead driving herself toward the palace that loomed above her. Hooves clattered over the cobbled courtyard as doors were thrown open and two figures hurried out to greet the returning woman. "Mirelle! Thank the gods! Mirelle!" She fell into the strong arms of Raphiel and was drawn against his broad chest, fingers combing through her long hair before capturing her face in both his hands. "You're alive, I thought for sure..." Lips pressed against her own and Mirelle melted against him, resting her weary body.

Reluctantly, the magess pulled herself back, stroking her love's cheek gently before turning her attention to the young girl that stood shyly to the side. All established magic users were expected to take on a student, not that anyone had had to force Mirelle, it had been her honour to guide the next generation in their schooling. Safiyya had come under her care three years ago at the tender age of thirteen. With her large blue eyes and head full of golden curls, Mirelle had taken her under her wing in an instant, becoming more like a mother than a teacher. Holding out her arms, the older witch beckoned her pupil toward her and folded her arms about the teen as she threw her slender arms around Mirelle's waist.

"It is good to see you both, but we cannot just stand here. I must speak with the King, whether he wishes to see me or not...there may be a way to spare lives and if not...well, I have some information regarding what we might face.."

((Do you want to play the King and maybe any other nobles that you think are required, and you can also play Raphiel if you want. He's a mage as well (what kind is up to you), they are lovers and discussing marriage. I considered that those were magic were highly respected in this Kingdom and thus can request and audience with the King, he may even consider some of them friends/advisers. I'll also have Safiyya (she's going to be Mirelle's protégé). Its up to you whether it is decided to surrender or to fight, also feel free to use Raphiel/Safi as leverage over Mirelle if it is required. Raph can be killed off but I'd quite like Safi to stick around.))
