Ashburn, Virginia – a small-time city with more than its fair share of problems, most of which stem both directly and indirectly from their local gang, the Ashburn Brawlers. Ten years ago, if you had asked a hundred different locals about the Brawlers then you wouldn’t have gotten anything except a few strange looks. These days, however, the gang is a household name in the growing city. Their mark decorates the walls of the city alleyways, they’re mentioned frequently on the local news, and the local police are always chasing down some new lead that will ultimately trail off and go cold.
The Brawlers got their start about five years ago as an underground street fighting group and have since blossomed into a full-on criminal gang. Their humble start in the back alleys and basements of its members has not been forgotten and bets on illegal pit fights still make up a large portion of the gang’s gross income. Outside of their unique flavor of gambling, the gang also pulls in funds from selling a standard array of drugs, firearms trafficking, theft, and extortion. From the outside looking in, the Ashburn Brawlers are your typical small-time American gang.
On the inside, however, the Brawlers aren’t quite as typical. The Brawlers’ leaders have gone to great lengths to ensure that gang on gang violence involving their group hovers just above a minimum. In fact, the only gang war that the Brawlers have been involved in was a small bout over turf that only lasted a few days before the rival gang was completely gone. Ashburn belongs to the Brawlers – any other gang willing to accept that is welcomed with respect and offered trade and strenuous friendship.
Fortunately for the populace of Ashburn, the Brawlers are relatively harmless and don’t go out of their way to disturb the public unless provoked. Sure, there are a few lower-ranked members of the gang who think that being a Brawler entitles them to whatever they want but the higher up that you go in the gang, the more rigid they become. For the most part, the Ashburn Brawlers are more like a small mafia group than a traditional American gang. Their syndicate actions are carefully planned and thought out as opposed to random acts of greed and violence. The locations where they store or create illegal merchandise is much more hidden away than a simple apartment room or trailer out in the suburbs. Little about the Brawlers reads like a typical American gang except for their loyalty to one another, their protection of their turf, and their dislike of the Virginia PD.
Logan Savage, known simply as ‘Savage’ to his friends, is the man responsible for the formation and the growth of the Ashburn Brawlers. Logan had grown up in a one-parent household with his father after his mother passed during child birth. Logan’s father hadn’t been around much when Logan was younger, for obvious reasons. Raising a child on your own isn’t easy for anyone and Logan’s father had taken a second job to help make his son’s future the best that he could.
From a young age, Logan’s grades in school were above average with little effort from the young boy. This was something that would persist throughout the course of his schooling. After school each day, Logan was picked up by his aunt and taken to the local karate center for kids where he spent the rest of his day until his father came to pick him up from there. The young boy’s knack for martial arts was about as good as his knack for school and as he grew older and graduated from the lower karate classes, he moved on to more advanced local schools.
In High school, Logan became the captain of his school’s martial arts club during his freshman year and created the Ashburn Brawlers in his dad’s basement. The original members of the Brawlers were all members of Logan’s martial arts club and those original members are all still high-ranking members of the gang. As time went on, the group expanded and became involved in more and more gang-like activities until the original intention of the Brawlers was all but lost in the ring of illegal blood sport and gambling.
These days, Logan is twenty-three and out of school. He lives alone on the second floor of his father’s duplex in the Ashburn suburbs, though he rarely sees his old man who lives on the first floor. When his rent is due, he usually just slides an envelope with cash in it through his father’s mail slot and goes on his way. Hell, Logan didn’t even attend his old man’s wedding last week. Needless to say, Logan’s relationship with his father wasn’t the best though Logan wouldn’t call it bad. He and his father stayed out of one another’s ways and that is how he liked it.
Logan was a handsome young man, after all, and it just wouldn’t do to have his father come knocking on his door while he was entertaining a female companion. Standing at an inch or two over six feet with a toned, athletic build, dark brown hair, blue eyes, an above average manhood, and the cash flow of a city-wide gang at his fingertips, there weren’t too many nights that Logan wasn’t entertaining a woman.
Tonight would be different Logan thought to himself as he took his evening shower and got himself ready for his ‘date’. Tonight, Logan wasn’t even going to need his car to find his companion for the night. The girl that had caught his eye lived just down the stairs from him now. He had seen her moving her things into his father’s part of the duplex – a cute little redhead. He assumed that this girl was his new step-sister. He knew that his new step-mother had a child from a previous marriage but he didn’t know what sex or even how old her child was.
Regardless, there was an attractive young woman on the floor just below his now, and both his father and his step-mother should be working tonight. What kind of brother would Logan be if he did not go down and introduce himself? If this girl was his new step-sister then there would be no blood between them to stop them from sharing a bed. If she wasn’t, then he needed to figure out why she was hanging around?
