Devon watched as the handsome man walked away. The way he spoke to her was just so cute. He was just about as nervous as she was, but maybe that's how he always acted. Why would she make him nervous? She wasn't beautiful like Marisa was. That was mind numbing beauty. Devon was, at best, cute. And that was all she ever would be. She sighed a bit and turned away, heading toward the check out. Though she then heard him call out to her and she stopped, turning around. Did he not know where the deli was or something? She stood there as he caught up to her, and listened intently. He was stuttering even more now, not confident in his words in the least. The pause was short but felt long to Devon as she looked into his eyes, wanting to hear what he had to say.
He wanted to hang out? Why? He didn't know anything about her, so what made him ask her this all of a sudden? Wait, why was she even asking herself that? Here this hot guy was, standing here and asking her out to a fair! Wait...was this like a date? Or a hangout? Devon slowly began to avert her eyes as she blushed. Imagine that, a guy asking her out. Something that she never thought would happen. Though she had looked away, a smile was spreading across her face. Even if this was just a hang out and not a date, it meant the world to her. No one had ever asked her to just hang out for no reason. Devon always felt like people found her strange, boring or both.
"Umm," Her voice was barely just above a whisper once again. She was still blushing but once again was looking him in the eyes with that bright smile on her face. "It's nice to meet you too, Eric. I'd be more than happy to...go to the fair with you. I'll meet you there at seven...by the Ferris Wheel. Don't stand me up, okay? I'll tell you my name when I see you tomorrow night...if you want to know it you'll have to show up...." She wasn't quite sure why she didn't feel like giving him her name. Perhaps she thought it would be an incentive for him to show up, or maybe she just didn't think this was real..that he was really asking her out. Whatever the case was, she had said it and she was sticking to it.
"Well...See you then..." Devon turned on her heel and hurried away without letting him have the chance to say anything back. She just hoped that this wasn't a dream..she really hoped that she hadn't just ruined her chances with him by saying something so stupid. She would probably yell at herself for the rest of the day for that. Being mysterious was for cool people and she was not cool. She quickly went to the check out line and then purchased the block of cheese and hurried back home. She had completely forgotten that she wanted to buy something else for the house, but she could do that later. "I'm home!" She called out when she unlocked the door and stepped inside of her new place. Immediately she headed for the kitchen so she could help Marisa finish the casserole.
