" Mathew said as he moved closer towards the Chessman's & Rooker.

" Well it seems that the Knight survived my deadly game.....so sad. " Alexander said while shaking his head. Then Rooker jumped at Mathew.....the two men started to fight. Suddenly the lights went out a hidden door open then Alexander & his daughter dashed inside as the door closed. Mathew & Rooker continued to struggle even with the lights out then when they came back on Mathew punched Rooker in the stomach and in his face knocking him to the floor. Mathew held his gun on Rooker then moved towards the desk. He found the device Alexander used to lock the place down.......Mathew opened all the doors and switched on the elevator.

With all the doors open and the traps deactivated.......the building was safe for the police. Mathew turned around towards Samantha who had freed Nina from the ropes that she was tied with. He pulled Samantha's shirt & skirt from inside of his coat then handed them too Sam. " Here Sam......you better get something on before the room is filled with Sheriff's Deputies. " Mathew said then he turned back towards Rooker who was laying on the floor groaning in pain.

As Mathew called her name and handed her her clothes, Samantha cringed a little and sheepishly took her clothes from him, barely able to make eye contact. Right now Mathew didn't really know anything... Didn't know what had happened. Pretty soon though Mike would tell him. Nina would tell him.

Mathew's finger was slowing squeezing on the trigger of his pistol which was in Rooker's mouth. Mathew stopped when he heard Samantha calling out for him to stop. He glanced back at Samantha.....Mathew saw the look in her eyes then he pulled his pistol from Rooker's mouth.....wiped it off on his coat then slipped the gun back into his shoulder holster. Mathew rose to his feet he took two steps away from Rooker just as the man sat up. " Not worth it?!? " Rooker said as he gave Samantha stern look. " You'll be singing another tune when you're on your knees begging for my cock........begging for me to fuck you again! " Rooker boldly said then Mathew spun around and kicked Rooker in the face knocking him out.

Mathew was fuming over what Rooker had said......but he turned around taking Samantha in his arms. " I don't care what you did.....or what you were forced to do.....all I care is that you're safe. " Mathew said softly then he leaned down kissing Samantha on her lips. A few moments later Ben rushed into the office followed by two Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies. " Put his ass in cuffs.....then get him out of here! " Ben said as he pointed at Rooker. The deputies quickly put cuffs on Rooker then helped him from the office.

Mathew & Ben started talking moving away while they did.....Nina stood up reading Samantha's body language. Nina & Samantha left the office.....they headed down the same stairs that Samantha had been forced to walk up naked by Alexandria. When Samantha first came into this stairwell it was black.....the lights had been turned off...but now the lights were on and they could see a fire exit. Nina & Sam used this exit to finally escape the building....they were now outside in the fresh air and sunlight. The Sheriff's Deputies were putting Rooker into one of their cars....then they brought out Mr. Pawn in handcuffs....he looked over at Samantha. Then Mike came out in a huff. The two Sheriff's Deputies looked at Samantha while she was speaking with Mike. They weren't sure what to do with Samantha saying that this man didn't have a choice. Mike turned when Samantha came up to him saying that Mr. Pawn had no choice......which didn't make him happy. " Well if he didn't rape you then you willingly had sex with him?!? Mike grumbled then thanked Sam.....he turned around yelling at the deputies to let that man go. He stormed off as they took the cuffs off of Mr. Pawn then Mathew & Ben came out of the old factory. Mike & Ben jumped into Ben's car then they left along with the Sheriff's Deputies.

Mathew walked up to where Samantha & Nina were standing.....he wrapped his arms around Sam then kissed her on the head. " Why don't we all go to Tony's for a drink......I'll buy. " Mathew said as he looked down at Samantha. He then added that Nina could drive so Samantha could relax a little.

Nina suggested that she could drive Samantha back to her apartment to change then the two could meet Mathew at Tony's place. Mathew agreed saying that he would have their drinks waiting for them. He watched as Samantha & Nina slipped into Sam's car then drove off. Mathew walked to his car which was still inside the old building. He stopped about half way there looking around. Someone helped Chessman & his daughter Alexandria escape...but was there another person who was hidden or was it someone else?

Mathew jumped into his car fired up the engine then backed out of the building.....he drove off down the road heading for LA. He knew this case wouldn't be over until Chessman was dead or in jail.....but of course Mathew knew nothing about the Fourth Reich that was growing inside the Untied States. An hour later Mathew pulled his car into the parking lot at Tony's place.....he walked inside ordering himself a beer & a shot of whiskey.....he also told Tony that Sam & Nina would be long and paid for their drinks.

Sam smiled at both of them and nodded and then she and Nina headed over to Nina's car. She climbed in and settled into the seat. She suddenly felt tired. But she knew a quick shower and a change of clothes would make her feel much better. Sh smiled at Nina as she climbed in grateful for her understanding. She was relieved Matt had seen things as he did; she was upset at Mike. What did he think she was going to do.

Mathew was hungry since it had been a long day. He hadn't eaten since.....well Mathew couldn't remember the last time he had anything to eat so he ordered a sandwich & a bowl of Tony's famous chili. Samantha was as good as her word. Twenty minutes after disppearing she reappeared, freshly showered in clean clothes. Mathew had already finished eat when Samantha & Nina came into Tony's place taking seats next to where he was sitting at the bar. Tony poured Samantha a whiskey then got Nina a glass of white wine. He quickly brought over their food....placing the club sandwich down for Sam and the hotdog & fries down for Nina.

Mathew explained that he thought they would be hungry since he doubted that either had anything to eat all day. He was very worried about Samantha...it had been a rough couple of months for her and Mathew felt that she could use some time off. Mathew pulled the $100,000 dollar check from his coat which he got after returning the stolen diamond. He laid the check down in front of Samantha then told Nina to put that in the bank in the morning.

Samantha smiled as she sat down and she watched Tony pour out her scotch. Some how she managed to hold herself back from just taking it down in one mouthful. She waited until Nina's wine was placed on the bar and then she picked up the small shot glass and took half of it.

She looked down at the sandwich and then back at Matt and she nodded in gratitute. If the truth be told, she was starving. She pulled out the napkin and then took a bite of the sandwich. It was quite possibly the best sandwich she had ever tasted. As she placed it back down on the plate and wiped her lips with the napkin, Matt slipped the check across the counter.

"Wow. That has to be the biggest paycheck you've pulled in Matthew. That's probably more than we've gotten between us since... since we started."

Mathew smiled chuckling while he nodded his head. It was the biggest check they had received since becoming partners. Nina said the she would get that check deposited in the bank first thing in the morning. Mathew took a long slip of his beer....he wondered if Samantha would be willing to take sometime off? He knew how much she enjoyed her work.....she also enjoyed living in Los Angeles and never spoke much about her home in England. But Mathew felt that Sam could use a couple of weeks off to recharge her batteries. " Sam......the last few mouths have been rough on you. " Mathew said as he places his glass of beer down on the bar.

" Now that we can afford it......why don't you take a couple of weeks off......go home and visit your family......you haven't seen them since before the war. " Mathew said softly placing a hand onto Samantha's shoulder. " You can catch a plane to New York.....then get one heading for London.......Nina & I can handle things until you return. " The tone in Mathew's voice was one with great worry in it. He didn't want everything that had happened to Sam over the last few months to drag her down.....she needed a break. Nina to said that Sam should take some time off. " It will do you good to get away from here for a while. " Nina said as her hand touched Samantha's arm.

Samantha looked from Mat to Nina and back. She was grateful for the concern from both of them. Did she want some time off? She felt like before today she had been off works since Parker's assault. Did she want to go home. It was true that she hadn't seen them since before the war. She didn't imagine that Oxfordshire would have changed very much, well know her family's part of Oxfordshire. Her father was not a man who liked change. She took a deep breath and smiled.

"Are you two trying to get rid of me?" There was a lightness in her tone that let them both know that she was kidding. "Maybe its not a bad idea."

Mathew slipped from his bar stool placing his arm fully around Samantha. " You deserve sometime off......I'm sure that your family would love too see you again. " Mathew said while giving Samantha a hug then he sat back down ordering another around of drinks. " It's been a while since you've seen your family........I'm sure that your life here in LA isn't anything like when you lived in England. " Nina joked then finished off her wine....she had no idea what Sam's life or home was like since Sam never talked about that before.

Samantha kept the fact that her family was wealthy well hidden.....very few people in America knew of how high up in British Society her family real was.

Samantha hugged him back. "You really don't know my family do you. I'm not entirely sure that they will have realized that I've left yet" she smiled and sat back down.

"And no... Oxfordshire is... nothing... like LA.... rolling hills... a busy highway is two cars and couple of horse drawn hay wagons... virtually no people. 15 degrees and damp. Nothing like LA." She smiled and finished off her scotch
