Prologue...

Nathan,Age 5

Nathan was at home in the castle, enjoying the toys the queen had brought for him to play with while the king was out fighting in the crusades. He was expected to be home within the month at any given time, and Nathan couldn't wait to see his father! Eventually standing up when the door to his room opened, he watched his father enter...holding something about the size of Nathan in a wrapped blanket. Nathan ran over and began to hop up and down, thinking it was a new toy...when really, it was just a little girl. "Daddy Daddy! What is she!? She looks so cwool!" He said as he pointed his finger at the little snake girl in the blanket.

Alicia, Age 5

Waking up slowly, she swung her head around at the loud noise and hissed softly. Her deep blue hair swirled around her head as her moved. With her red eyes sparkling in the light of the room, she said," Do you have to be so loud?" She yawned loudly, and a bulge in the blanket moved as her tail unwrapped itself around her body. She tried to get out of the blanket that the man had her in, but she was held fast against his chest.

(Change name please? That names a bit personal and it'd be awkward for someone to use it >_< )

Seeing that she wanted to get down, The king bent down onto a knee and laid the girl gently onto the ground before moving over to the queen. Nathan moved over to the snake woman and smiled as he began to poke her tail. "Wow! Its...like something from my storybooks!" He said happily. "My name is Nathan! Whats your snake girl?" He said with a cheerful smile on his face. "Thats going to be your new guardian. Her people are born for war...its in her blood. She'll teach you the ways of fighting when you both get old enough and she will become your guardian." The king said before taking his wife to leave the two in peace.

She stood up and stretched, her tail rolling out on the ground and snaking around. "My name is Synthia...got anything to eat around here?" She asked and wandered around the room, scrambling up a chair to see if any fruit was on the table. Her tail wagged as she stood up on her toes, barely able to look over the high table. She only wore a robe, secured around her waist with a twisted leather girdle. The only thing of value on her appeared to be a silver ring around her finger.

Hearing her, he looked at her, wondering what she was doing. "Food...? We have food in the kitchen that the chefs prepare...but come on! Lets go play!" He said as he grabbed her tail and began to pull her across the room...he was a strong kid indeed. He dragged her to his room before closing the door to it...after calling the chef to bring in some food for them.

Nathan
Age 12

Falling down hard onto the ground, Nathan held his wrist as the wooden training sword beside him was smashed in half. "Darnit Synthia! You almost took my hand off!" He said as he stood up and chuckled. "You're good Synthia! I never beat you!" He seemed cheerful when he said that, but there was a hint of sadness that he could never compare to her in fighting skill.

Synthia, Age 13

She blew a puff of air up, knocking some loose hair from her eyes as she walked over to Nathan, holding out her hand. "We just have to keep working, young master..." She hauled him up, with only a slight shift in her hair to support him. Having pulled the heavier boy up, she turned and walked back to the other end of the training circle. "Again..." She readied her wooden sword.

Walking over to the sword racks, he got another wooden one before walking back over to her. "Okay...I'm ready Synthia!" He shouted as he rushed her, sword high in the air before it came down crashing toward her body in an attempt to hit her hard. When they sparred, it was no holding back unless it would fatally injure someone.

She sighed as she expected his clumsy attack and side stepped, the sword crunching into the grass. She raised her knee and popped him under the jaw. He flopped back onto his backside and she giggled. "You need to learn subtly...not bull rushing like you like to do." She smiled and sat down next to him. She laid back on the soft grass and looked up into the cool, spring sky. The wind barely stirred, flicking the grass around them.

Nathan fell back, clutching his mouth as he writhed in pain, even as she laid down next to him. His mouth was slightly bleeding as he had bit his lip, but he remained tearless as he wiped the blood away. "I'll never be as good as you...you're just amazing when it comes to fighting, Synthia..." He turned to her and smiled. "I wish I could be as strong as you someday."

Still smiling and looking at the sky, she replied, "You will be someday...just train hard and be strong. Don't be a pansy." She grinned wider and rolled onto her side, her just developing breasts making lumps in her tunic. She reached up and wiped some stray blood from his mouth, licking it off of her fingers. Her tail flicked appreciatively at the sweet taste, she noticed him staring. "Sorry...old instincts popping back up." She glanced down at her ring, smiling softer and sadder now.

Nathan smiled and sat her up to her knees and met her eye to eye. "Hey...don't worry about that...its fine." He seemed to be more couragous now. "I promise I'll become better! Just you wait! I'll do it...for you!" He leaned forward and kissed her lips, blushing madly as he smiled to her sheepishly before running off to the castle...but that happiness would only last the next four years until a tragedy happened...Causing Nathan's life to change before his very eyes.

She blushed as much as her green skin could, stunned for several minutes after the kiss. Slowly, she began to resurface and she shivered, unsure of what to say or do. She finally broke into laughter and laid back down, laughing up into the sky, her soul soaring with unexpected happiness. "Hehehe...maybe this life won't be bad after all." She paused for a few moments. "At least the bugger is brave..." She got up and walked towards the castle, the sun warming her still flushed body.

Nathan
Age 16.

Terrible news struck the castle sadly. The queen had just fallen ill to a disease and Nathan locks himself in his room, no lights on whatsoever and not answering to anybody. The love that he shared between he and Synthia during the four years seemed like nothing as his despair overthrew any emotions he had whatsoever. He didn't answer to anybody...And he wanted to be left alone..."Why did you have to die mother...why..."

Walking toward Nathan's door with a tray of food, Synthia had grown into maturity. She stood a new 5'6'', with developed c-cup breasts. Her body was covered with a deep blue, ankle length robe. She stopped outside Nathan's door and knocked on it softly with her tail. "Nathan....I have your supper..." The two of them had grown distant over the last couple of years, due to his self-isolation, and her heart had been torn in two when he shut her out. She had turned bitter and resentful to any kind of affection, learning that a warrior can not have any weakness that affected them that deeply...

Nathan remained silent, even after Synthia had knocked on his door. He didn't want to see her...and anybody else. He felt that the queen's death was his fault...he couldn't bare to live with that reason. Looking over, he grabbed his wooden sword and sighed as he laid in the bed...before opening the window out of his room and began to climb down the castle walls...He abandoned the castle and ran away from home to get away from it all...The whole structure was just a bad memory for him...No one saw him when he attempted his escape...

After waiting for some time for him to open the door, she sighed and opened the door. "I know you don't like it, but you need....Nathan?" She looked around the empty room, then sat the tray on the desk. "Nathan?" She walked over to the window and looked out, seeing the forest beyond. "you stupid, selfish, immature..." She broke down into tears and collapsed onto the floor, broken heart turning into cold-iron.

That was the last anyone ever heard of Prince Nathan. He roamed the country without giving his name whatsoever to anybody and he honed his skills as a swordsman to heights that would make even Synthia jealous...well, compared to when they were sixteen.

Story
Nathan
Age 19

Three years later....word tells of the King slowly growing ill to the same disease that kill the queen. Nathan couldn't believe it...he had to make it home to see his father before he fell ill. Walking into the town with a cloak on that covered his entire body, he easily stood out from the crowds as he made his way though the town. It seemed more new than he remembered..

The king looked to Synthia...one of the best Knights his kingdom had to offer. "Synthia. There is...word of a mysterious...f-fi-figure...roaming the streets in a clo-cloak..." The king said through gasps as the disease was slowly eating away at his heart, and even still he worked. "Go and bring this man in...f-for quest...quest...question...ing..."

Synthia, age 20

She nodded her head, "Yes, my lord." She lifted her glaive to her shoulder and marched out of the king's bed chamber, her steel boots ringing from the stone floors. She descended down into the city and inquired as to wear she could find the man, only after a few minutes, she spotted him. She marched up to him, her single red eye glaring out, making the people part from her path. "You, stranger, the king requests your attendance." She snapped out at him. She leaned on her weapon, ready for a fight.

Hearing a familiar voice, Nathan turned around. His face was completely hidden by the hood over his face from the cloak and he remained silent. 'Synthia...' He said before turning and beginning to walk away. He didn't need to see her...not yet...he was hoping to see his father first to see if everything would be alright. He gave her the cold shoulder and began to walk away...not saying a single thing to the girl.

Hissing loudly, she jumped forward as fast as her snake ancestors, grabbing his cloak and yanking him back toward her. "You need to come with me, boy." She continued to grip his cloak with her iron-like hand, and turns to walk back to the castle, dragging him behind her. Her tail was constantly flicking in annoyance.

He remained silent as he seemed to be like a ragdoll. He was just letting her drag him along to the castle until he was in the King's chambers. The king looked at the man and looked to Synthia. "Do you know....know...know...who...he is?" He said before breaking out into violent coughs. "Remove his hood."

She stood up the man and reached toward his hood, yanking it off. It took several moments before the coin finally dropped. "Nathan..." Her face was instantly split between bloodthirsty rage and soul crushing despair. She turned completely numb, dropping her weapon and collapsing back into a chair, holding her mouth with a gauntlet covered hand. Her eye wide with surprise.

Getting up from his nap on the floor, Nathan dusted off the cloak with his hands before looking to the king. "Hey old man...long time no see." The king glared at Nathan but eventually it turned into something of joy. "Welcome...ba...back my son..." He said before chuckling lightly. "Tonight we will prepare a feast for Prince Nathan's return!" Nathan smiled and took off his cloak to reveal the clothes and his sword underneath. "Don't get used to me staying here old man. I'm just here to check up on you after I heard you were sick. I'll be gone in about three days." The king's smile did not falter. "Either way...you're home." He looked to Synthia. "Take Nathan to his old roo...roo...room....if you will."

She nodded instinctively, not by conscious thought, and stood up, picking up her weapon and walking the route toward his room. Her brain was in a storm, unable to concentrate on anything besides about how she should feel. She moved in a zombified way, only there physically, not mentally. She eventually arrived at his room and unlocked it for him. She stepped to the side and opened the door, not looking at him.

"And its good to see you too I guess..." He murmured as he rubbed the back of his head before walking into his room. It was exactly like he had left it. "Huh...seems the old man liked to keep even unused rooms nice and tidy..." He murmured before looking to Synthia. "Wanna come in for a bit? We could do some catching up if you're up for it Synthia."
