Dragon and the Present

Rachell and Sam watched in mild amusement as Tiam ran excitedly around the cave.. a few times Rachell even busted out laughing and Sam was wagging his tail and playfully chasing after a few of the chickens but not hurting them before they where all rounded up and put into there pens.

"This is to perfect. I can't wait to draw up plans and everything for the rest of the things we need. I'm so happy right now I could just " not even finishing his sentence Tiam grabbed Rachell and kissed her hard and loveningly craddled her smaller frame against him. his hand wrapped around her stroking up and down her back. Slowly he pulled back and looked at her.

"I love you Rachell. I wish to make you mine eternal." He held her hands and looked deep in her eyes as he said that. His smile was happily placed on his face. Patiently he waited for what she had to say. Hoping she too wanted him as much as he wanted her. He sighed heavily as he held her hands watching and waited.

Rachell was busy watching and laughing at Tiam as he ran around the cave .. then he picked her up in his big arms hugging and kissing her ..

and calling her another women s name .. at this she couldn't help herself as she busted out laughing ... "Tiam i really think you must have hit your head when you passed out the other day," she said.

"No I didn't I'm just in such a good mood nothing could possibly upset me right now. There could be a small army outside right now and I wouldn't even get angry." He contiue to hold Rachell as he stared at her lovingly. Hugging her again he walked over and started to rough house with Sam rolling around in the dirt play fighting.

Rachell watched Sam and Tiam .. they both looked like kids as they rolled around the floor ...

and then something broke the mood as a small voice could be heard outside the cave..

"Rachell?" .. "Rachell darling are you in there" called a woman's voice..
"Rachell honey if your in there please come out."

Sam jumped up and stood just in front of Rachell a low growl coming from his throat.

Tiam recognized that voice and knew even if he wanted too he couldn't kill the women pacing at the mouth of the cave. Cause no matter what Tiam had said Rachell still belived her to be her mother.

"What is she doing here. I thought she would be beside herself that you where out of her hair." He sight gently and simply took Rachells hand and lead the way to the mouth of the cave. Gently pushing Rachell forward he smiled encouragingly towards and didn't let go of her hand till she was only a good two feet in front of him be he stood bold behind her peeking just over her head fromt the angle he is at he can watch both women and spot anything that may be hiding out in the fields.

"Ahhh there you are.. Oh Rachell sweetheart you had me so worried." said the woman as Rachell came out of the cave.

As soon as Rachell saw the woman her whole demeanor changed as she lowered her head looking at the ground .. her long red hair once again covering her face.

"You where worried about me?" .. "why would you be worried about me?" Rachell asked, her voice little more then a whisper with a slight tremor in it.

"Ahh silly girl of course i was worried about you, You are my only daughter." The woman told Rachell. "You need to come home now, and .. and your brother misses you."

Rachell kept looking at the ground, but now she was shaking her head. " No that's not my home anymore." Rachel said, "And besides you never wanted me .. you where always mean to me calling me names and hitting me."

Behind Rachell stood Tiam and Sam listening to the whole encounter. Sam was beside himself .. a low growl coming from deep inside him as he watched the woman.

"Nonsense Rachell, you belong at home .. not living in some cave like a wild animal" the woman said, "And since you've been gone i've been doing alot of thinking. I have treated you badly in the past and i'm going to change." she told Rachell. "Now come on Rachell lets go home."

Slowly Rachell lifted her head... Tiam was behind her and although he could only see Rachells back he had a very good view of the woman Rachell had been talking to. As Rachell lifted her head... the color on the woman's face drained making her as pale as a ghost. She took a step back and stumbled and almost fell on her ass. At that moment Tiam could hear Rachell hisss and in a voice he only heard once before .. a voice he heard when he first saw Sam, and rachell jumped on his back.. and Tiam knew exactly what the woman had see to make the blood drain from her face.

Rachell hissed, " YOU lieeeeeeeeee! YOU are not my mother and i will never go with you!.. Be gone! and don't ever come back around here again!" ..

Before Rachell even got the last words out the woman was running down the side of the mountain.

"Something doesn't seem right about her coming here. Rachell I think we need to go back to the town and figure what is going on. I have a feeling we are gonna find something that we may not like. Go pack some supplies and ill do the same. " Tiam look around his den on last time. Hoping he will be able to come home after this is all over. Then swiftly he gathered his things and pack enough supplies to last weeks he went to the mouth of the cave and looked out across the plains and the rolling grassie field and how it dance and weaved in the wind. Silently he stood there running his hands along the animal statue gaurdians as he waited for Rachell.

"I hope I don't lose my home again." He said solemly to himself. His eyes grew sullen as he thought about that and how much it would hurt to lose a second home. Not knowing of what greater treasures lay ahead of him. He sat down depression slowly seeping to his core as he waited but without warning sam bumped him and in just that simple action it cheered Tiam up. Wrapping his hand into the animals fur he stood up and waited for Rachell a smile soflty playing on his lips.

"Tiam, Why is she running away? Did you do something to her?" Rachell said to Tiam as she turned around, It was obvious she wasn't aware of what had happened to make the woman she thought was her mother run away.
"I dont know why she came up here. Perhaps she just misses my cooking or needs a babysitter." Rachell said half joking.

Inside the cave Rachell wasn't feeling the ominous presents like Tiam was. She went around gathering what few outfits she had along with some of the herbs that she had been collecting and rolled them up in one of the firs that they had been using as a bed.
They didn't have much in way of cooking stuff but she figured she had better take them just in-case they would be gone for awhile. She went back into where the Kobold had had there camp and was able to find a few leather straps and a old worn leather bag. She fastened them together to make a type of harness that she would wrap around Sam so he could help carry some of the items as well.

"Ok Tiam i guess we are ready. What do you think we will find in that town?" she asked Tiam as they started to head out. And then she had an idea. " Tiam I don't think Sam should come into town with us he should wait outside out of sight. For some reason i don't think it would be a good idea that the people in town know we are leaving. Sam can watch over our stuff while we are in town."

"i am not sure what we will find Rachell but something tells me that it will be answers to a lot of questions. i also agree that Sam should wait near the gates seeing a large animal like him will only cause a panic." once ready Tiam took the lead to the town setting a even pace as the dark clouds still lingered overhead.

Tiam stayed close to Rachell the entire time as Sam stood on the opposite side of her. with just a few minutes they reach the gates which where now open. Tiam motioned for Sam to hide somewhere safe and brought Rachell into the town. holding her close as the wondered the streets.

"Where is the house that you use to live at cause that is where we are heading." Tiam spook softly not wanting anyone to over hear them. Tiam waited for her response to what she had to say to that. cause if they where gonna get answers its best they go to the source of the problem.

The narrow stone streets where crowded as they weaved there way in and out of the narrow streets. Nobody seemed to noticed them amounts the other people that lined the busy streets. Rachell had worn the black cape that Tiam had bought her the hood pulled up her flaming red hair tucked inside.

As they approached the tiny shack that Rachell once shared with the woman she had called her mother. A sense of dread come over Rachell as she saw a crowd of people gathered around the tiny house.

And then she saw one of her mothers friends.. well the closest thing to a friend her mother had.In reality her mother didn't have many, if any, friends other then the men she knew from the bar. The lady had lived a few houses down from Rachell and her mother, "What's going on here?" Rachell asked the lady. The lady turned around, a look of surprise on her face, "Rachell is that you? Oh my I hardly recognized you. Why you look so... so grown up," She smiled at Rachell. "Look at you I can actually see your face. I don't think I ever saw your face before you always had your head down and your hair covering it. My you are a beautiful young woman," the lady told Rachell. Rachell blushed a little she had never heard somebody say she was pretty before other then Tiam.

"Whats going on here? Why are all the people around our house?"
Rachell asked the lady. The lady replied, "We are not sure," The lady said, "There as an awful lot of noise here last night, and we," The lady looked around to the other neighbors almost as if embarrassed,"well we thought.. well you know, we thought it was your mother and .. well one of her friends."
"So this morning I when i hadn't seen you or your brother, or mother i decided to come over and check on you all. That's when I found the house like this." She stepped aside as Rachell and Tiam walked into the house. In sided the house all the furniture had been broken. Everything had been pulled off the shelves and tossed on the floor. The house had been completely ransacked. But there was no sign of Rachells mother, or brother anywhere to be seen.

Then the lady stepped up behind Rachell and put her hand on her shoulder. Rachell turned around and the lady lowered her voice," Rachell I have something for you. I found it a few years ago and when I found it I thought of you. I put it away thinking i would give it to you." then the lady paused as if she felt embarrassed," I don't know I must have forgotten about it and seeing you just now reminded me I still had it."
"Why don't you and your friend come over tonight for dinner. I can fix you both something nice to eat and i can give it to you then."
"Well, I don't know," Rachell said, looking over at Tiam who and been walking around picking up bits and pieces of debris that was scattered around the tiny shack. "We did kind of had plans," Rachell didn't want to tell the lady that her and Tiam had been planing to take off after visiting the town.
"Tiam, what do you think?" Rachell said looking over at him, who had seemed to be off in another place as he studied the things scattered around.

picking through the pieces trying to figure out what had happened here Tiam rummaged thoroughly through it all. All he could tell was that there was a fight of some sort and someone was definitely angry at the would be mother then Tiam found what he feared. A small boy lay crumbled under a shelf Tiam shook his head knowing that the way the head dangled the child's neck was snapped and not far off the mother lay with blood pooled around her.

"I think dinner will be nice Rachell we should go." he did not want to tell her about her family just yet he needed to know what happened and he couldn't very well do it with so many people around. "We can come back tonight after everyone leaves to see if there are any traces of your brother or your mother, but only after we eat and discuss with this nice women what she believes may have happened last night. now come let us go this place hold nothing but depression and anxiety."

slowly Tiam took Rachells hand and lead them to the ladies hut not to far away from the house. Tiam continued to think of ways to tell Rachell what he must do to get the real answers about last night for the dead tell no lies not to anyone including a necromancer. soon they reached the house and Tiam sat her down gently as he held her hand as they waited for their host to return.

The sun was growing low in the sky as the went into the woman's home. It was plain and simple but had a warm feel to it as she had a nice fire going in the fire place. The smell of fresh homemade food filled the air as they walked in. The woman went about setting the table it was obvious she was happy to have guests.

The dinner was simple nothing fancy but it was obvious that the woman took a lot of love and time into cooking and the meal though simple was delicious and filling. Rachell was curious about this thing the woman had mentioned about having. But she didn't want to seem rude and rush the woman as they enjoyed there meal.

"So, have you always lived in this village?" Rachell asked. "Oh yes, born and raised her.. raised my children right in this same house," the woman replied. Rachell smiled, it was obvious that the woman took great pride in her children, but Rachell had a few questions of her own she wanted to ask the woman with out sounding to pushy, " So have you always known my mother?"
"Well ever since you all moved here," the woman replied chuckling.
" And, I forgot, just how long ago was that?" asked Rachell.
" Well that was about .. let me see.. about two years ago I think, Yes just a bit over two years ago. Your mother and brother moved here." the woman replied.
"and me?" asked Rachell, "was that the same time you saw me?"
The woman chuckled, " Well of course dear.. come to think of it, it was about two weeks later that i saw you. Ah but you where such a little thing back then." The woman looked away from Rachell for a moment. " You looked so lost and scared. Wandering around with a blank look on your face. Well everybody just thought it was because of the move and having just lost your father."
"My father," asked Rachell, "Did you know my father."
"Oh no, Your mother said he had just passed away just before you all moved here." The woman said.

"Oh but wait I almost forgot, I want to give you that thing I found, wait right here while i go get it." The woman said as she pushed away from the table, leaving Tiam and Rachell sitting in her kitchen.

"Rachell there is something i need to tell you while she is busy getting the thing she found." he paused briefly to find the right words. "I found your family but not the way you would want to see them..... there dead." Tiam was not happy that he had to tell her that but she had to know.

"You brother went quickly there was no pain with him but your mother well she suffered before she passed..... i only tell you this cause you have the right to know what happened to them. but since they are dead we can get truthful answers from them i can temporally bring them back and ask them any question they would know the answer to and they will have to say the truth. Cause the dead can't lie." He waited for her response to this hoping she will let him do this so they can get there answers to who would do this why they would want to do this and for what purpose.

"I am sorry for your loss my love and i can understand if you say no. But let me just reiterate that i can get answers from them about why that happened and who did it and for what reason they did what they did." he kept his eyes on hers holding her hands waiting to see some kind of emotion when the initial shock wore off from him telling her that her only family is dead.

Rachell was holding Tiam's hand, feeling a mixture of grief and relief. Sad that someone had died especially an innocent boy, but relief that that woman wouldn't be able to hurt her again. She was just about to say something when the woman walked back in carrying a small wooden box.

"Here we go," the lady said setting the box in front of Rachell and Tiam.
"I found it a few years ago, right after you and your mother moved in. It reminded me so much of you it's the same color as your pretty green eyes," She said to Rachell, and then she brushed the hair out of Rachells face as her thumb gently stroked Rachells cheek as she lifted Rachell's head up a bit, much as a mother would do with her own child. " You know you really are a beautiful woman you shouldn't hide yourself behind your hair all the time," The woman said.

Rachell smiled and blushed, then looked down at the box sitting in front of them.
She slid the cover off and there sitting in the box was a green Amulet, and sure as the woman's words it matched the green of Rachells eyes.

The amulet had a small elf holding the green stone, that looked very much like Rachell herself with her long hair. The stone was set in silver and looked to be hand carved.

As Rachell picked up the amulet up out of the box it had a strange feeling in her hand, a warm tingling sensation. As Tiam and the woman where talking Rachell looked down at the amulet in her hand. It seemed to start to glow as the facets inside the stone seemed to be moving. Rachell clutched her fist around the stone so Tiam and the woman wouldn't see it starting to glow. Then she put the amulet back inside the box and slid the lid closed.

After a few more minutes Rachell and Tiam thanked the lady and let heading out into the night. Heading towards what was left of the little shake she had shared with her mother. Rachell gave a high pitched whistle and before they reached the shack Sam had joined them. As all three of them stepped into the shack.

"Rachell i must know now are you ok with what i will need to do in order to get our answers." he looked at her in the eyes and searched for any emotion at all as to what she may think about what he must do. his muscles where tense with anxiety and worry about her feelings.

"Please Rachell i need to know. If you are not ok with what i need to do then please tell me. i can't do this if you are uncomfortable with this." he continued to look at her his eyes filled with love and worry about her feelings on this. slowly he hugged and hoped that she was not still in shock over what he told her. as he still waited for her answer he began to dig out the young boy from under the shelf and carefully lifted him and brought him over to her and then left to find the mother.

He found her still on the ground but the blood seeped into the dirt and a few rodents where seen gnawing on her arm. he batted them off and lifted her up as well and brought her over to lay next to the child. Tiam sighed as he looked back up into Rachells' eyes not knowing what she may say but if anything at least the bodies will be buried and put to rest before the night is over.

Rachell watched as Tiam brought the bodies over and laid them side by side. For some reason they seemed.. different.. and no not just cause they where dead.. they almost seemed unrecognizable not the same people she had known, but they where, that fact was undeniable. But the woman that Rachell had come to think of as her mother seemed older, much older then Rachell had known her to be, though the woman Rachell knew was only in her mid 30's this woman looked to be close to 90 of not older. Her face and hands where wrinkled, her hair looked gray and matted. And the boy, though he was only six he too looked older, but there was something else about him as well, he had an almost inhuman type look and feel to him. His skin looked gray with veins very visible under the skin giving him the appearance of some type of creature other then a human.

With one hand Rachell was rubbing the box in her pocket that held the amulet the other was petting Sam as she watched Tiam, "Yes, i think i need to find out some answers about my past," Rachell said looking over at Tiam.

Tiam slowly nodded and set to work on a ritual that would raise them from the dead but keep there bodies and souls inside a circle of power so that if anything happens when they become reanimated they can't hurt no one.

"Spirits of the dead I ask u to bring back these two lost souls for they left question unanswered and ties that have been left undone. Bring them back so they may finish what they started." Tiam gently cut his arm and used the blood on the blade he pulled from inside his robe and flicked it on the dead bodies. His dragon blood causeing the two bodies to glow and hum. Soon the two dead bodies twitched and began to move the mother sat up first and blinked the child or what he belived to be the child moved second

"Go ahead rachell ask them anything and they will answer you truthfully." Tiam held the blade downward as he began to bandage his arm keeping the wound from bleeding anymore than it has. Dragon blood being very strong he did not want to much to fall in the ground as he consentrated on the two bodies and the circle keeping them inside and away from them should they get hostile.
