She frowned, understanding his logic. It must be hard to trust people to like you for yourself in his situation. Still, she wished he'd have a little more faith in her. Not that he knew her at all...Crap. Why had she let it go that far? His compliments didn't make it any easier on her.

"I can understand that. It hurts a little, but I understand that. But rather than just shut me out, why not try to get to know me?"

'Why not try to get to know me?' One of the replacements asked him that once. Rio got to know him, a couple weeks before he found the same young wolf laying in the grass, choking on his own blood. Rio blinked, looking at the TV, bringing it back into focus. He wondered if those images that crept up out of the darkness would ever stop floating to the surface.

Turning to her, the wolf did something stupid, something that every fiber of his being told him was absolutely wrong and horrid.

"So then, Sophie, would you like to go on a date?"

She wasn't really expecting such immediate results--much less positive ones. But who was she to question good fortune. Stunned momentarily, she snapped herself out of it. "I'd like that," she said with a smile. Maybe he really did like her after all. "When would you like to go out?"

The wolf put down the still near full glass of whiskey, for the first time, choosing something over alcohol in his life. Looking at the gorgeous human girl in front of him, Rio smiled, genuinely.

"I'm not exactly sure how all of this dating stuff works. So, how about I make you a deal. You take me wherever you want to go, and I'll pay for it. And then..." Rio shrugged playfully, suggestively as to what might happen after that.

Sophie smiled at him and tilted her head, wondering why he was wondering about it. "Let's just go out and get to know each other. We'll see where we end up." She smiled and took a sip of her drink, watching him. "It sounds like a plan to me. Did you want to wait? Or go now?"
