D through some strange quirk of his blood could actually go for a few days without any real need for sleep though it did leave him a little more vulnerable when he did sleep if he pushed himself to utter exhaustion. Luckily he had actually slept every day for the last week so he was more than able to handle a day up and about. In fact he was still waiting for word from the village on the recent attack and so he wanted to wait to see if it arrived. He could hear that his new guest Alice was not sleeping soundly though he was not sure exactly why. Before he could think to much on it though a soft chime signaled that a message had arrived on the roof. He made his way up and found a carrier pidgin had landed which set off the alarm for the light weight triggering sensors, if it had been anything heavier the alarm would have been far different and had matching tactical response.
He took the small cylinder though and sent the bird back on its way. He headed back into the fortress that was his home and to the communications room. There he sat down and opened the tube. He was not surprised that a small device designed to store a message and other data was inside. It was a fairly common method of sending messages these days after all. He slipped it into a receptacle on the desk in front of him and began going over the message and the information attached. It was indeed about the attack but it seemed that what had taken three days was the investigation. Something had the towns people scared and some were not as willing to talk as they normally were. But in the end the good sheriff had found out why. One or two had seen some sort of deal go down but were scared half to death because of the attack. This was an odd coincidence as normally back room deals had nothing to do with the nobility who would simple send their own loyal thugs and mutants. Which is why the sheriff had forwarded this.... the girls new 'master' it claimed had actually payed off the drunks to take and try to rape her assuring them not only a large sum of money but that the sheriff would never lay a hand on them.
The info went on to explain how all the men involved had been found dead. However one had been holding a bloodied knife and the girl was no where to be found. To D this all stuck of a set up. The noble had only promised the Sheriff would never harm the men he hired, he had never bothered to tell them how. Such duplicity was a common trait in their dealings... it all painted a picture of a set up designed to ensnare a woman's trust and perhaps change her. Then he reached the info on the woman who was missing... and that was a bit of a surprise.
He now had no doubt Michael would come for her. He had gone to so much trouble to arrange having her turned and thinking he was some sort of rescuing hero.... he would not simply let her vanish on him. Though D wondered why send her back to the same village, unless he wanted to make sure that they knew she was dead and turned... perhaps even make her hate them for not looking for her. It was hard to say but either way D had even more reason to make the vampire pay now.
