Question what is the difference between system, group, and open interest in offsite rp?

Hi there. So I am at a crossroads when it comes to rping and I'm curious if someone can help me out with this. I'm possibly looking into this but kind of scratching my head at it. I'm not sure how to even go about it and when I looked at what was available in that area I didn't get much information to glean from. Is there even a difference between these three are they just meant to mean the same thing or be the same thing? Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out.

So a system is a group roleplay with rules/ ‘a system’ often similar to D&D or other RPG tabletops. A group RP can be anything with more than two people. I used to do a big group rp with like 8 people. It had a setting and a posting order for the writers, but no stat or point system etc.

Off site is for advertising for people who prefer roleplaying elsewhere (I like discord)

I’ve always found group rp to be sort of intimidating/daunting myself, but yeah! That’s what those things are for. ‘Open’ just means it’s open for people to join. If it’s closed, it’s not taking more applicants/members/role players.

Thanks for that. It does make things a little easier on my end never having done this or rather it has been ages since the other two places I used to do group stuff.

Most of what Sadboyhours said is correct, however a bit of correction/expansion on the point of "Open" groups. An Open Roleplay is one that does not require invitation or signups, meaning that anyone and everyone is welcome to just jump into a group that is labeled and placed in the "Open" section.

Generally groups that aren't "Open" have some sort of selection process. It might be first come first serve or it might be something along the lines of interested players making characters before the person running the game selects the individuals they like the most to continue forward.

Huh. Yeah I didn't really consider that at first...certainly seems like a lot to think about before even getting this off the ground. Thanks for clarifying that. I had thought of open but that might be certainly chaotic at best.
