Just about to get started on my Monk. Decided I do want to go that way after all, getting excited for the character as I think it through.

To answer the question about partners and pairings: No strong preferences here. My character will be bi.

@Red-Scarlet Will we be starting off as a party who already know each other? Or just strangers who get caught up in events together?

You've been traveling together for only a short while. Long enough that you know each other's names, and a bit about each other, but not much.
 
@Red-Scarlet Is it alright if I take the Far Traveller background from the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide?

My basic pitch for my character's backstory is that she's from The Evermeet, the far-off Elven islands, but she left because she was fascinated by dragons and wanted to wander the world and see more of them. She never ended up actually meeting a dragon, but she did end up finding a hidden Elven monastery where she spent decades learning a martial art style passed down to them by an ancient dragon.

Hermit is probably a better fit, honestly, but I'm not particularly fond of it as a background. šŸ˜…
 
So, backgrounds are (in my games) fully customizable. You get two skills, two of languages and/or tools, a background feature, and some items.

If you want the Hermit background with different skills or tools or languages, go nuts!
 
I'll be making my character sheet a bit later tonight, after a session of D&D myself, heh. Hope people are having a good day.
