The sound of heels clicked down the echoing halls of Burnholt. The sound filled every corner of the building, every nook and cranny drowned in it. Step, step, step. It made no sense. But, sense was left behind. It has no purpose here. Allison had been through hell, her dreams and imagination twisted and ravaged while the men who ran this monstrous asylum used her. There had been only a handful of female staff and they were not saints. They did not draw attention to themselves with loud heels and confident steps, afraid that they would be next after the patients. Now, there was a presence, a will that filled these halls.
Even in her little room, now clean and bright, the padding stripped from the walls and replaced with bright blue wallpaper. It was a comfortable place. The first place Allison had ever arrived at in wonderland. The only difference was the door. It was not the wooden cottage door from her early dreams. It was heavy and metal, bolted and buckled to keep the monsters out. The heels echoed louder, like steel ringing on steel until it made the door itself shake. Then, it stopped. And the door began to unlock itself in clanks and clangs. When it finally opened, it was not a doctor or an orderly.
It was the Queen of Hearts, ruler of Underland. The first friend Allison had brought to life, aside from sweet Dinah, who was otherwise engaged.
"Rise and shine, little sunshine. Underland is waiting just for you." The voice was silky and soft, but it rang with power. Because Allison had made the Queen more than a queen. She was a goddess among the monsters in the twisted land.
She wore her most lovely gown, softest red silk wrapped around her chest and shoulders, a dipping neckline showing off how the corested garment pressed her breasts together. It split at the waist, draped down the sides, it gave way to a skirt of crushed velvet. Her face, beautiful beyond measure, was twisted into a tricked little smile. The hearts that adorned her cheeks lifted with it, making her eyes shine bright. Her long, pale legs were in thigh high stockings, a mirror of Allison's own if not for the hearts stitched in. The entire thing was embroidered with playing card motif, spades and clubs on the reds and hearts and diamons on the black. Her heels were bloody red, gore caked on the soles and delicate ribbons around her ankles. And in her hand was a chain, each link in the shape of a heart.
She stepped into the small room and tugged the chain, which went taut, leading up and up. Another hard pull as she stepped in the room and she was followed by her loyal husband, or loyal pet. The King of Hearts, a mountain of a man. Unlike his queen, he wore barely a scrap. His long red hair hung around his shoulders, his lean muscles on displace. He was just as beautiful as the queen, but the smile on his face was malicious, mad. They had once been a loving king and queen. Now, he never spoke a word. The only signs of his royalty were the swathes of ink that covered him. Hearts and swirls across most of his body, dipping under the waistband of his loincloth.
Around his wrists were metal stocks, bound with a heavy lock in the shape of a heart. The chain led up to the collar around his neck. Yet, despite the restraints and his statue, towering even over the taller queen by over a foot, he did not struggle. For he was a loyal pet. The Queen twisted the chain, shortening it until he was pressed against her back. She lifted a hand and stroked his cheek, smiling sweetly before she turned back to Allison.
"You look so pretty, dear Allison. I know this is all so sudden, but I didn't dare to lose Underland's sunshine. We heard what the naughty man said to you. Him, and all his friends, would be coming to visit you. That you should clean up. And we did just that, didn't we? And when they came, we showed them how to behave. Isn't that right, my king?" The Queen leaned up onto her toes and pressed a kiss to the king's chest.
Then, she pulled his chain hard and he grunted, leaning forward. The Queen took another step forward and her heels clicked sharply, a hand reaching out for Allison to take it. And when she finally did, she pulled her close, pressed her face between her breasts as she stroked her hair.
"But, those naughty men won't be back. You let us out, and now the whole city is my kingdom. I worry about my little sunshine. Worry that they won't treat you right. So, now you can live in Underland forever. But, my king was concerned that you might not want to play with us after that they did." The Queen stepped back and caught Allison by the chin, tilting her face up.
"You do want to play with all your friends in Underland still, don't you sweet sunshine?"
