What is your favorite part of fantasy stories?
For me, it’s always been the adventure, the challenge of good and evil, the complexities of cultures and peoples working together against a foreboding evil. Good, but flawed, people doing their best to overcome all odds. Watching their growth from someone who lives a mundane life into a hero for the whole realm to look up to.
That, and magic. Oh how I love magic systems. The ability to change the rules of engagement by coming up with new and creative ways to use spells, even the most mundane ones. A Druid splitting the dense foliage of a forest to bring the sun bearing down onto a pack of trolls, turning them into stone. Or an artificer realizing their slingshot, when adjusted, can fire acorns through a ring of enlargement to fire cannonballs at their enemies.
The possibilities and stories truly are endless. So below I’m going to add a few characters and ideas. Take a look and let me know if any of them strike your interest - then let’s write a fantasy story together! It can be as magical as we want, so go wild!

Born into slavery, Raven never knew her true family. She knew only service, avoiding the punishment of mistakes as much as possible while dreaming for freedom. For her, she only received a single response to her prayers, and took the offered agreement without reading the fine print.
Years later, Raven still has no place to truly call her home. Her patron has granted her power to protect herself, but will occasionally make requests of her - requests she is required to complete. As much as she can, Raven is kind, even if she would prefer to be alone. Her anger flares when she sees injustice, and has often gotten her into trouble as she takes action, at times far too harshly.
Is she still a slave? Perhaps, but at least she is more free than before.

It is no hidden secret that orcs must go through a rite of passage, a trial, laid on them by the village elder, before they are truly considered adults and full members of the tribe. Even the princess must complete her trial.
For Terra Stormcrow, that trial was obtaining the head of a demon. She wasn’t afraid, far from it. In fact, the challenge excited her, knowing she completed this task few would be able to challenge her right to her father’s chiefdom.
The trial would be difficult, but she had a thirst for battle and adventure.

But all of that was thrown away when the Royal Academy for Magecraft came knocking.
As it turned out, Cassie was born with innate magical power, power that could be dangerous if uncontrolled. They offered to teach her to control that power, in exchange for serving the crown as a Royal Mage for the next ten years.
She didn’t have much of a choice, but she took the chance regardless. It meant leaving her family and her old life behind, but she thought the adventure - and the money - were worth it.
