Charlotte 'Charlie' Rolling By
The morning had started early. Charlie was afraid she was going to be late for her first class, but nah. She had made it on time, and she was ever glad she did. When the projector flashed the social media page of the woman in the bikini, her eyes had widened as she covered her mouth in shock. Clearly, the majority of the class had been aroused by the sight in living color, big and bold, in front of them on display. Her eyes had darted to the woman, though. She was concerned about how this had made her feel. By the hue on her face, it appeared she was beyond embarrassed. Understandable really. She glanced around the room, hoping no one would make any lewd jokes or comments that would further cause her any strife. Somehow, the band of students had held it together, treating the incident with as much dignity as they could. Perhaps the fact that they were frantically searching on their phones for the social media page had something to do with it. Charlie shock her head thinking, 'morons. Give the girl a break.' Still, it might be a good idea to check it out. Get an idea of who she is and what she's like. Her eyes widened as she glanced from her phone to the woman. 'Daaaaaaang. Girl sure does have a lot of pictures,' she thought as she tilted her head while looking at her phone.
Once the class was over, Charlie yawned as she threw her board down and pulled the denim bag up her shoulders. Dressed like she always did in her staple attire, she stepped up and pushed off. The sound of the wheels along the pathway was music to her ears. Charlie waved and called out to people as she went along. Growing up in this town, she knew most of the people who were new here. Still, it was great to see them, comforting really. The new faces excited her. It was a chance to meet someone for the first time. The morning had already proven how much of a rush that could be. Moving her lips to a song that played only in her head, Charle continued on her way, nearly slowing down to a stop as she rolled past some guy bent over fiddling with a lawnmower. 'He is so hot,' she thought. Sighing, she shook her head slightly before speeding back up and whispering, "Someday". She laughed at the group of football players showing their skills. A fresh new crop to prove their capabilities on the field this year. 'Might be worth going to a game or two, or five,' she thought. Catching a glimpse of the football player chatting with Barbie girl, she grinned. 'So cute,' she thought. There were so many people starting to filter out into the brightness. It was exciting, really. She moved her body, the board almost seeming to guide her. Her hand still darting up, waving as she heard her name every so often. "What's up?" she would yell. "You missed it in Physics. Catch you up later," she told one person. "Yeah, wait. I'll let you know. You know I got that one late class. I'll catch ya up when I can." Charlie had to be careful when she signed up for her classes, making sure her schedule would overlap nicely with the job she had taken. She had thought about looking for a second job, but with her class load and the one job she already had, it would prove to be difficult, and she didn't want to overload herself. Her mom and dad worked hard at their jobs, and she didn't want to burden them with the cost of being here. School was expensive, and she did want to have some money. Running to them asking for money all the time wasn't an option, even if they did offer.
She noticed a sweetie sitting on a blanket. Before she could get up to her, another girl had joined her. 'Pity,' she thought. 'I was gonna say hi.'. The girl was someone Charlie didn't know. In fact, they both were. Her eyes lit up. Pushing off with one foot, Charlie sped up to get to them faster. "Hiya," she called out, waving her fingers. "Welcome to Blue Ridge," she said, gesturing with her arms as she rode by. Charlie did want to meet them, but she wasn't about to be intrusive. "See ya around," she called back after she passed. Reaching the cafeteria, she popped her board and entered. "Sorry, I'm late," she called out, pushing past the line. "Early class, and there was this thing last night, and a thing, and another thing, and then this morning there it was, big as day, for all the world to see on the projector a....." Charlie stopped, smiled at the other girl behind the counter working, and said, "Nah. Not gonna spread that kind of toxic crap. It'll get around anyway without my mouth." She gave a wink to the line. "Okay, folks! Step up and tell me what you want!"
