Welcome to a very specific search for my alchemist character. I enjoy writing characters against multiple other RP partners, so this may look familiar to you if you are currently RPing with me.

Here are some quick things to get out of the way
  • I tend to write 200+ word posts, and I prefer partners who can reach a similar length. Shorter posts on occasion are fine, but not if they are consistent.
  • If you are uncomfortable with themes of (mostly fantasy) drug abuse, self-harm, or suicide, this is not the plot for you.
  • This is a slow-burn plot. If you are the kind of writer who needs smut early, this might not be a good fit. We can incorporate sexual scenes in other ways, such as side characters, dream states, etc., but actual intimacy between our characters, I'd like to take time.
  • The MC is not a chatty character with many inner thoughts. Of course, I will give you things to respond to and can always add more if you feel stumped, but if playing opposite a quiet character isn't for you, this won't be the plot for you.
  • Obligatory f-list, but it's pretty old at this point; if it's not a no, I'll try it.

MC was once a renowned alchemist, but behind closed doors, her life has fallen into disarray. Her eyesight has slowly deteriorated, and trauma and personal loss have taken their toll. Refusing to concede, she pushes through, but things are getting harder. Without her eyes, she relies on her hands, and alchemy without protective gear and decreasing precision has left its damage. Obsession with her craft has taken over every aspect of her life, and with her vision slipping, she grips it tighter. Everything else comes second. Reliance on the pain medicine for sleep has turned into a nightly escape. Drinking is a vice when she has bad days. She's kept up the appearance of normalcy for a while, but the cracks are showing. The townsfolk know she is losing her vision and that she is already mostly blind, combined with her history she isn't immune to being turned into gossip.

Hyper independent and guarded she's difficult to get to know. But there's a softness to her that shines through in smaller acts.

Plots
In a short prologue scene, YC is an adventurer (soldier, knight or similar flavor) or an apprentice. They stop in Harrowell, a town not as grand as the huge cities but well-developed and comfortable, to restock on potions and rest before continuing. The alchemy shop is quaint and warm. MC is a fresh apprentice to the current alchemist and will be manning the front desk the day YC stops by. The conversation is brief and warm, with both characters eager to talk about what feels like the beginning of their lives. Potions bought and quest ahead they part ways. (I would love to start with this scene, but we could headcanon it if that is preferred)

Seven years pass. YC has had their adventure (military campaign, or as fantastical as slaying the demon lord TM we can workshop it however you'd like.) , and these days, they are considered a hero (again we can workshop this, a hero like a veteran is regarded or a hero with a statue being erected). Ready to settle down, but with no town they have roots to return to, they choose to settle in Harrowell. The slow pace of life, interesting travelers, and frequent festivals are a huge draw. The renown their name holds here is a nice bonus. Adjusting to civilian life is harder than anticipated. On the move, it's easier to ignore the damage left by YC's past, but trying to enjoy their well-earned peace, it rears its head (PTSD, Insomnia, Chronic Pain, whatever you'd like). Initially, YC tried the herbalist and apothecary, but with little success. They recommend trying potions for what ails them, bringing them to the potion shop.

The difference from YC's last visit is startling. There's no one waiting at the counter, only a bell and a sign that says to ring it till help comes. The old alchemist is gone, and the apprentice YC met before has taken over. She's different from how YC remembers her, seeming older and distant. MC can tell YC is different, too. There's more to them than being the resident golden hero under the surface. The potions help, and thus, the two begin seeing and hearing more of each other. They work to pick apart the armor the other has donned over the years.

I am a big fan of people with different sources of damage learning to heal together, which will be a central theme of this plot. I would also like us to have a cast of secondary characters to interact with; either we both have some, or I play characters to bounce off yours between our protagonists' interactions.
