Prologue
It was the middle of the night when I was woken from a deep sleep by a loud crash in my room, the window has burst and shattered all over the floor. "What the hell was that?" I thought to myself. Looking around my room for answers I notice that it was both windows that shattered. I get up from where I'm sitting on the bed and carefully try to avoid the glass to get to my door and check on the house. My heart's racing as I get out of bed quietly, trying to avoid the glass on the floor. The carpet was littered with glass shards. I have to be careful or my feet will be sliced to shreds.
I live with my girlfriend Eve who happened to be at her mothers for the weekend. My name is Aiden. Eve and I have lived here in Vancouver, British Columbia for years now. There's never been anything like this to happen in the years we've lived here. It was eerily quiet in the house before another loud crashing sound and glass breaking once again. Moving to the door of my bedroom. I peek my head out of the doorway to try and look down the hall. Looking to see if there was something in the house that caused the explosion of glass. I don't see anything as I look left down the hallway and then right. Whatever caused the explosion doesn't seem to be caused from anything in the house. So, what caused it?
There was glass everywhere, trying my best I try to avoid the glass down the hallway. The explosion sent glass flying so violently that there was shards embedded in the wall in the hallway. Heading downstairs; I look around cautiously moving through the house. Suddenly from outside there was a high pitched ringing that seemed to come from the sky. My ears feel like they are going to burst. I move to our bay window that is built into the house like a reading nook. I quietly sit down and open the blackout curtains to the side slightly to peek outside. Looking to the sky I try and see what is making the ear splitting ringing. Now that I'm looking outside I notice that the sky seems to be a shade of crimson and seems to be lit up. It looks like there's a large crimson light coming from some kind of aircraft. "What the hell is that?" I think to myself as I start to tremble slightly. The crimson light is eerie and illuminates the darkness of the night to instill terror and dread.
As I watch outside waiting to see if there's any movement I start to notice something materializing on the ground. As if it's body was being built from nothing, I could see the muscles and sinew being formed. It was a creature that looked like one of earths dinosaurs except it had arms instead of front legs and its back legs were more humanoid with the legs bent backwards at the knee. Standing around six feet tall with a long tail and a five inch retractable claw on each foot. Sharp as a razor. "What the hell is that!" I'm screaming on the inside, not knowing what's going on. I continue to watch outside to see what the creature will do. The creature bends down to put it's snout to the ground, it had a head similar to a Velociraptor but with a shorter snout and eyes that were blue with vicious slits for pupils. With bloodshot eyes the creature looks around before sniffing the ground again. "It seems that this creature was made with DNA from a Velociraptor and human DNA. What made this creature... it's a perfect blend of both to create a perfect hunter. The apex predator to take out humanity.." I'm thinking before I pause as I hear a noise outside like a sharp screeching sound. It almost sounded birdlike but with a tone that is high pitched and savage. Holding my breath..
It's caught a scent.
Terrified, I remember that I have a baseball bat by the door. Eve and I live on the outskirts of town on a farm surrounded by a forest. We don't get many intruders out this way or people who to cause trouble. I insisted on having the bat by the door as I'm quite paranoid. Due to past experiences with people I always play it safe. Slowly I crouch down.. making my way to the door. It was near the bottom of the stairs and across the room from the bay window, so I need to stay low and quiet. I'm halfway to the door when I hear a clicking noise outside, followed by a high pitched screech. The creature was communicating, but who or what was it speaking to? I keep moving towards the door to get the bat, finally grabbing it and clutching it close.
Outside I can hear a scratching noise down the side of the outside wall of the house. The creature is going to try and enter the house and find me. The glass explosion earlier must have been to prepare for the invasion of these creatures. I've got to hide or fight. I don't have much time to decide.. The creature is taking it's time to find me, it's toying with me. It's prolonging the hunt, fear is like a juicy steak to a predator and this creature was trying to get it's fill of fear. I hear more clawing on the walls, "Is there more than one?" I think to myself. More clawing on the wall. I clutch the bat and move away from the windows, still crouching low trying to avoid detection from the creature. I make my way to the kitchen to arm myself with a knife. "I have to find somewhere to hide, I've got to survive. Is Eve okay?" I'm thinking as I try to keep my composure and not make a sound. I can't let myself be found or else I won't ever see Eve again. Her mother only lives fifteen minutes away so I need to be able to get to my truck and get to her mother Anna's house. I know what I need to do. First thing is try to get past this creature without dying.. More scratching.. This time on the front door. The creature was scratching at the door for a few minutes toying with me before crashing into the door. Outside I can hear the creature screeching as it backed away and prepared to smash into the door again. A few moments pass and Smash!! The creature bounced off the door again but this time the door was cracked down the middle. One more and it's going to break. It's time to move..
