"It would've been a shame to have lost you so soon."

"A couple more minutes and it might've been different…" Nyxia whimpered back as she glanced down at her leg, seeming hesitant to put any weight on it at all… She leaned down while tugging her dress upwards to give the dressings another check, obsessively running her hand across the cloth of the bandage to feel for the unmistakable texture of blood-soaked fabric… After a further moment of meticulous checking, she seemed content and straightened her back. Her eyes glanced over to Dahlia, giving her a half smile before gritting her teeth through the pain.

"Are you good to walk? Lean on my shoulder if you need to. It won't do your wound any good if you put your weight on it."

Nyxia's eyes turned to Luka and as much as she wanted to keep her composure and look capable in front of the rest of the group, she did find herself leaning against him, slowly at first, keeping most of her weight on her good foot until she found herself leaning further into him while her arm dropped across his shoulders, despite standing a couple of feet taller then the rest of the group, she was far lighter then she appeared… A result of growing up on a world with lower gravity, thinner bones, and taller forms.. Her ears perked up as Desi spoke to her.

"Oh, it's Nyxia the doctor! Yeah, don't you remember me?"

The doctor froze in place as Desi introduced herself again, an awkward smile appearing on her pale lips as her eyes widened slightly. Nervously shifting her weight onto her good leg while Luka supported her, Nyxia finally spoke as she nodded her head, causing some loose strands of hair to fall across her face. "Oh! Right… Desi! I uh… R-Remember giving you a rabies shot one time! Sorry, I just see sooo many patients… Or well… I suppose I did see so many patients… I guess now I'll just be seeing you guys…" It was a lie... Although lots of the crew did have their rabies shots, the doctor couldn't recall Desi's name, let alone her face... Although that was more of a reflection on her own reclusive personality than the bubbly Desi. Nyxia's eyes glanced down at the bandaged wound on her leg, luckily for Desi there was no blood seeping into the bandages…. Yet. "Oh yeah… I-It's okay, I've got some morphine in my bag so I'm doing… Okay, considering I could've died before you guys came along. Thank you, by the way..." She tried to force a smile onto her face as she glanced around at the others, although in truth the gathering was wearing her out more than the wound on her leg was, so many people in one place…

Nyxia motioned to Luka to let her go before she folded her legs beneath her and sat on the ground, tugging at the fabric of her dress to cover her legs before she called over to Fortuna… "Hey… Uhm… Fortuna, come here, I need to look at that wound of yours, I promise I'll actually fix it this time…" Even while on the floor, she tried to make herself look more like a doctor, more akin to a professional… She brushed some loose strands of hair from her face as she waited for the warrior to come over to her before going to work.

[HEAL = 9]

Seeing the pain and hearing Fortuna's whimpers, Nyxia seemed intent on fixing her mistakes from minutes earlier. She worked at the straps of Fortuna's shoulder plate before slowly lowering it to the ground and worked at the fabric of her clothing to get a good view of the wound. She retrieved a tiny pocket torch from her medbag, gripping it between her teeth as she worked. After pouring a generous amount of antiseptic across the wound, she retrieved some medical wipes and cleaned away most of the congealed blood and grime from the area before finally going to work with her needle and thread… Muttering to herself, even with the torch between her teeth as she stitched… "I should've been a tailor with the amount of stitching I do…" She plucked the torch from her mouth as she finished her stitching before wrapping Fortuna's shoulder with gauze and bandages… Finally, she took her hand gently into her lap and pulled up her sleeve, injecting a syringe of morphine into her wrist, which would finally dull the agonizing pain…

"I uhm… I'm sorry I slipped earlier… I think I was just shaken up from the crash… Your shoulder should be better in a week… Well… Mostly healed up. I'll just need to change your bandages a couple of times, okay?" Even now, she tried to force another smile onto her face. Usually, her patients were unconscious on a metal slab, not eyeing her as she worked… This was a job for a paramedic, not a reclusive surgeon… She finally, grimly looked over the pile of corpses Dahlia and Fortuna had built earlier… She wasn't exactly squeamish at the sight of corpses, but the way they were piled up like meat unsettled her for a moment, merely a moment… "A fire does sound nice… I think some of the pods might have some basic survival gear, I did chase after the rest of the medical team to stock them… Whether they actually got round to it… Well…"

Her eyes strayed to the pile of corpses again, glancing at Fortuna before she sighed and spoke up.

"If you need help dissecting those corpses… Let me know… Don't know why you'd want to."

"Ha, of course I did! Let's just say I've had plenty of experience." Oddly enough, something about her demeanor had seemed to soothe her curiosities, preventing the blonde paladin from feeling the need to pry any further into the affairs of their charismatic, redhead quartermaster. As she prepped the bodies for the others to do what they wished with, after portioning out the preserved food for the others to share, she took a bite of her jerky as she listened in on the plans of those more well-equipped for labor than her injured body was. "Ah, thank you, Forty." "It is of no issue. We'll all need it for the coming days ahead. I doubt we should expect things to get any easier from here."

"Maybe two of us should gather firewood while the other one stays behind to watch over Nyx and Fortuna. We're the least injured, so I think that would be the best move. What do you guys think?"

"Yeah, I agree. I'll keep a lookout in case anything happens, so all of you should rest."
The tapping of his bionic eye had made the paladin give him a strange glance. Given her lack of cybernetics on her body, despite the commonality of implants like Luka's when it came to other guards and mercenaries, it still served to make her uncomfortable seeing something so inorganic where his natural flesh once was. "I'm used to staying awake during the night."

"All of us? If need be- I could assist in the- Oof-"
The typical glare of the marksman combined with the shakiness in her bloodied, sore legs had brought her rising body back down to the ground. Fortuna had pushed herself far beyond her limits, extending whatever adrenaline she might've had early in the day across far too long a stretch of time for her body to remain in full function for. To avoid aggravating her wounds any further, she simply sat while the others coordinated plans.

"If we need to fight, I'll be ready. Just right now, my body is too worn to do much more than that." It felt strange having to rely on others to do what she could not. While she appreciated their help, she cursed her own weakness. It seemed that there was still more room for her god to humble her and so much more she could do to improve.

"Hey… Uhm… Fortuna, come here, I need to look at that wound of yours, I promise I'll actually fix it this time…"
The sound of familiar boots coming from nearby had made her raise her eyebrow at the source of the sound, eventually finding the tall silhouette of the woman that wounded her earlier. She didn't move away nor stir in fear from the previous mistakes. Instead, all she did was whimper in quiet as she assisted in the removal of the padding of her armor for Nyxia to inspect her wounds. "Don't fear. We all make mistakes, Nyx."

Putting on a brave face, the paladin seemed tough enough to brave whatever pain that could come next. The sting of the antiseptic on her wounds had strayed far from what she had originally expected from before. This time, there was no throbbing sensation of digits piercing her flesh; This time, she felt no more than her needle and string tying the gash that exposed her insides to the elements. "I should've been a tailor with the amount of stitching I do…"

"Never too late to try. You're quite good at it..."
Given her pain tolerance, Fortuna was able to find humor in her words. "Though, I much prefer you as a doctor. Its better to have a life and ripped clothes than to look good in mended clothes while dead." The moment her morphine was finally injected into her bloodstream, the sudden weariness she felt had dissipated, being instead replaced by a zeal to continue serving her group.

"I uhm… I'm sorry I slipped earlier… I think I was just shaken up from the crash… Your shoulder should be better in a week… Well… Mostly healed up. I'll just need to change your bandages a couple of times, okay?"
"
Its no problem." Once her body had felt ready to act once again, Fortuna stubbornly rose to the occasion. "If need be, I could join in the gathering of woo-" The forced smile on the doctor's face and the looks of concern on her party's faces had made her reconsider. She didn't want to be a liability to the group, especially when they needed her as one of the first lines of defense against all that lurk in the dark of this rimworld.

"... I could stand back. Maybe take a look at some of the nearby escape pods to see if there are anything we could use for makeshift beds in the meantime. Or..." As she thought about it, the idea of using the escape pod itself as a camp had come to mind. "We could take shifts while sleeping in the pod. Maybe use the fire to keep us warm until morning." Given the landscape and the environment that surrounded them, it was clear that the nights in this area would end up being cold. Without some form of heat to sustain them, frostbite would likely become a danger the same as the lethites that assaulted them earlier.

From a quick observation, it seemed like the only one wearing clothes that could resist this form of weather was the doctor herself. The armor that was intended for the guards had prioritized flexibility over temperature control, especially given the operating environment it was made for usually being the inside of an air conditioned ship. Desi's clothes on the other hand had seemed to be made with the function of fashion in mind while Dahlia's was meant to be comfortable while representing the uniformed standard of the ship over all else. After getting their shelter set up, it seemed like getting the right gear to survive the environment would be of the top priority the next day. "Tomorrow, we should consider building something. A better shelter than this, at least. Maybe finding something that could be used as clothes and some food." Eyeing the weapon in Luka's hand, it seemed that there was one thing they could do to serve both functions: Hunting.
