What do conversation folders mean?

Exactly what the title says. I am very new to this site and am having a hard time navigating it. What exactly does the conversation folders option mean?

That's kind of wonky at the moment. But it's if you want to sort your dms under categories and stuff. You don't have to mess with it though, it's just there incase you want to.
