They were close friends for years growing up around each other in the same city. Watching serial killer documentaries, swapping horror novels, leaning on each other, and in general were inseparable. Muse A fell for Muse B in their teens, but never mentioned anything. Afraid to ruin the close friendship hoping that time would wash it away. That’s not what happened though it stuck around like a bad penny. Muse A just learned to go through the motions, and pretend that side of them didn’t exist. As if they weren’t pining for a person who showed no desire in them the way it burned through them on lonely nights. Eventually Muse A settled into a relationship set up by their parents.
Four years into the relationship, age twenty-nine, Muse A proposed to their significant other. Feeling that it had been the natural progression of things. That news shook something awake in Muse B though something that made them feel horrible in more ways than one. They should’ve been happy, but there was a sense of jealousy. One they recognized is ridiculous since it’s not as if the two ever went beyond friendship. The guilt gnawed at them for weeks slowly withdrawing from Muse A entirely. Who obviously picked up on it then confronted their best friend. Muse B denied at first, but then broke down apologizing.
They admitted having no right to feeling this way. That it’s too late to ask for anything, and they’d learn to move on. In the middle of the confession Muse A did something impulsive, selfish, and had repercussions later on. They kissed their longtime crush as if the world were about to end. The two wound up in bed together in a mess of tangled sheets. Muse A promised to immediately end things as their relationship had been more based on mutual benefits their combined assets would bring. Not out of love.
What they hadn’t expected? Muse A’s fiancee had hired a PI to watch them the minute the other started to act differently during Muse B withdrawal. So the fiancee already had pictures of the two kissing, stumbling into a home, and photos through the window of Muse B’s rental home leaving little to the imagination. So when Muse A went to have the difficult conversation their partner already had evidence splayed out on their coffee table. With a wide smile, and a coffee in hand. “If you don’t want these to end your career, and theirs you’ll go through this wedding. I have put too much time and effort into building to let it all go to waste.” They stated not so much as batting an eye to the rage that crossed Muse A’s face.
So that’s exactly what Muse A did.

Muse A is the child of a (Biker Gang/Mafia) though had never been directly involved in some of their less than savory illegal activities. Instead they opted for a job in the medical field. This decision had been made just to benefit their chaotic family. While they didn’t approve of the families past they did feel overwhelming loyalty to them.
Muse B had seemingly stumbled onto the scene quickly gaining rank.They were reliable, competent, and street smart as well. They didn’t seek out friendships right away, but seemed to observe everyone for the first year. As if taking in the dynamic of the group, and learning personalities. Slowly though they seemed to build a bond with a few people. Including Muse A, who they eventually started a hidden relationship with.
The two agreed to keep it secret based on the fact that Muse A’s parent was more than just a little protective. Plus if they were both honest it the relationship was very new, and neither had any idea where it’d lead. For three years they kept it under the radar. Spending nights together, and sneaking around. Though some in the group had a little bit of a gut feeling the two were closer than just friends. Despite that no one confronted them.
It felt like an odd Bonnie and Clyde fairytale. Which is why what happened came as a slap to the face for Muse A. Apparently Muse B was an undercover cop who’d strategically placed himself within the group to gain as much intel as possible. Using Muse A’s knowledge of their parent, and as a means of having a cover if need be. The betrayal had been brought to light in the most dramatic fashion.
A raid on the groups main meeting spot. Everyone was detained including Muse A who was distraught.
Even more complicated was the fact Muse B actually did fall in love. The raid had been called without their knowledge. They’d arrived at the meeting spot dazed and confused seeing Muse A in cuffs. Something that would stick to their memory for years. Apparently Muse B’s supervisors had felt they'd become too attached. That it was better to pull the plug now than later.
The thing is Muse A’s parent called on a favor from within prison. While the leader couldn’t get their entire gang out of the frying pan they could at least break out their own child. Muse A managed to escape prison with the help of friends in high places, but not before dropping a bomb shell before disappearing. They sent a positive pregnancy test to Muse B’s last known address.

Olympus the realm of gods had a problem. Many had started questioning Zeus’s ability to rule. Everyone had their own opinions on this matter of course, but unrest was a widely shared issue. Deals were made, pawns moved, and everyone was scheming. Muse A is a deity that had their own agenda kept close to the chest rather than on the sleeve. In order to get what they want from another deity a deal was made. The hand of another deities child for whatever Muse A sought. Be it alliance or otherwise.
Why Muse B though? They were a favorite demi-god they’d spawned. Born from actual love rather than fleeting lust. The god/goddess wanted their child to be well taken care of. Who better than another deity? Sadly though Muse B had zero clue of what went on in Olympus. So the news of the arranged marriage came as quite a shock. Especially when all the heads up they get is a single night. That’s it. No time to process, just summoned to Olympus.
The wedding was quick straight to business as Muse A gave a ring to Muse B with a promise to remain faithful. Muse A figured they’d already taken Muse B’s freedom; they wouldn’t bring shame or embarrassment as well. The two would eventually fall in love, but not after many years together.
Unfortunately though Muse B, being only part god, could not stop death. Especially not when another deity caused it. Which in turn made Muse A go mad with rage that could be felt even in the realm of man. They withdrew into themselves hardened by loss.
Years went by in a blink until Muse A discovered their lost love had been reincarnated.

Modern day dating is just too damn hard. Wanna know what makes it even more complicated? The fact that supernatural creatures are now part of the equation too. Humans have now been widely aware of their presence for some time now. How many were there now? Well let’s see we’ve got: werewolves, vampires, orcs, sirens, naga, minotaur, dragons, and more of course. There were so damn many it was hard to keep track of.
Which is why new apps started cropping up. The most common one being Unique Love or UL a dating app geared towards monsters and monster lovers in general. One of the more unique features of it is that once you feel comfortable enough you can send a request for what’s called a “scent sample”. Since the world also had to deal with secondary genders, and some creatures were naturally sensitive to smell it helped to see if their scent was appealing in a private setting. Rather than awkwardly meeting the person only to want to run for the hills later.
Muse A is a widely successful person who has spent their life creating a career. They were at the top of their field, but had no one to share their life with. So they took a chance with the app, but selected the anonymous feature. Mostly out of caution as they were well off, and didn’t want any locals recognizing the name and pictures.
Muse B works in the same exact field as Muse A. While not at the top they were working in the same department as a subordinate under Muse A. Much like the other Muse B kept things anonymous, but for different reasons. They just valued their privacy and it felt more comfortable for them that way.
Now the two have matched on the dating app, but how long before they find out who they’re talking to?
