Aᴘᴘᴇᴀʀᴀɴᴄᴇ:
Standing at a height of 5'5" (165.1cm), Aiko appears to be nothing but an ordinary girl upon first glance. Her messy brown hair is cut into choppy waves, the color a fiery ombre that starts as a reddish-brown hue at the top and fades into a platinum blonde at the ends. The strands in the back are cut shorter at her neck, but she sports two longer locks in the front that almost reach her chest. Her eyes are sharp and almond-shaped, a mixture between brown and blue that could best be described as hazel. With her fluffy hair and round cheeks, she gives something of a "puppy dog" aura, like she might sprout ears and a tail at any moment. Though her skin is porcelain, it does tend to flush easily, a product of her northern heritage. With clothes on her frame appears thin, almost willowy, but one can more easily see the slight traces of muscle she's put on once the layers are removed.

Pᴇʀsᴏɴᴀʟɪᴛʏ:
True to her name, Aiko is seen as a ray of sunshine by those around her. She is a lighthearted, happy-go-lucky girl that prefers to keep a positive outlook on life. Ever the optimist, she believes that there is good to be found in everyone and will try to make friends with anyone regardless of how 'mean' or 'unlikable' they are. She's not one to hold grudges or spite others, but she can be a bit of a hothead, quick to anger when the people she cares about are degraded or threatened. While she simply brushes off any insults directed at her, she is fiercely protective of her friends and won't stand for their mistreatment. She has a strong, even naïve sense of justice that tends to shine through when she sees innocent people who are made to suffer at the hands of monsters and the corrupt.
Despite her hardworking nature and ambition, Aiko is something of an airhead. She tends to do rather poorly when it comes to written assignments and exams, and she's often prone to getting overwhelmed and confused when she sees too many letters on a page. Even in social situations she can be rather tone deaf, often making things awkward without even realizing it. Her clumsy, forgetful nature is just as likely to annoy her peers as it is to endear them. Still, she takes her own faults in stride and works to better herself, even if at times such efforts seem fruitless.
Oftentimes, her friendly, affectionate nature can make her come off strong and a tad too clingy. Once she's decided she wants to be around someone, nothing can stop her from pursuing that person to the ends of the earth, no matter how unwilling they may be. As much as her advances may come off as flirting, she is fairly oblivious herself and any attempts at seduction often fall flat or go straight over her head. However, this does not mean that she's passive — on the contrary, she enjoys and even prefers to take the initiative at times. Though she may not realize that her feelings could qualify as 'love' at first, once she's taken an interest in someone she becomes extremely loyal to them and will defend them until her last breath.

Bᴀᴄᴋɢʀᴏᴜɴᴅ:
Born to House Hikari in the vast country of Kinai, the heroine Aiko was seen as a blessed child. As the first baby in a millennium to be born with light magic, there was a little-known prophecy surrounding her birth that one day she would save the land from the dark beasts that would encroach upon it, for she was fated to fight the villain that commanded them. Unbeknownst to her, another girl was born around the same time as her, one who held dominion over shadows. The two infant girls were direct counterparts to one another much like yin and yang, their fates intertwined together in the very prophecy that pitted them against one another. The ancient prophecy was forgotten by many over the years, but it was passed down throughout her family, the members of which who still believed wholeheartedly that it would one day come to pass.
Originally, Aiko was raised as a noble in the capital city of Kumiyo, hailing from the once-honorable Hikari bloodline. After birthing the first lumomancer in generations, her parents enjoyed an elevation in status, with lavish festivities being thrown in the young girl's name. She was set for a life of luxury and comfort, one where she was expected to do great things with the gifts that the gods had bestowed upon her.
However, it wasn't long before misfortune fell upon her clan. On the same night as her fifth birthday, Hikari manor was infiltrated by cloaked fiends who sought to use the daughter's powers for their own nefarious purposes. The assassins slew her parents and attempted to kidnap Aiko, almost succeeding in their plot until they were stopped by the town guardsmen right before they could escape the capital. With her noble mother and father dead, she was handed off to her grandmother, her only living relative. In a bid to keep the young girl safe, the elderly matron moved with her to the countryside, the two of them taking up residence in the northern provinces. The cold weather and harsh landscape was unforgiving, but the relative seclusion of the mountains meant that they could live without worry of being found and targeted by criminals once more.
Aiko spent the rest of her days under the care of her beloved grandmother, and though they didn't have much left to their name, she was content knowing that they had each other. She was raised no differently than a commoner, sometimes having to scrape by to make ends meet, but always happy to pitch in however she could to help out. This far out from the capital, nobody knew who she was, so she was free to pick up odd jobs in the nearby village and peddle wares in the marketplace. At some point she developed a fascination for weapons and saved up all the money she had to buy a blade so that she could begin training with it. In the solitude of the forest, she spent long hours honing her skills, eventually using her battle prowess to make even more money and have her chakrams crafted for her by a blacksmith.
All of that would invariably lead into the present day, where just a few months prior Aiko received an unexpected invitation to Megumi Gakuen, the most prestigious magic academy for young adults in all of Kinai. Though her grandmother had her reservations, the now eighteen-year-old Aiko jumped at the chance to attend, eager to learn how to properly harness her powers and maybe even collect the funds required to better provide for her elderly caretaker. With a goal in mind, she boarded a carriage across the country and made for her destiny.
...
Of course, as she would come to find out, that was only half of the real story.
In her past life, Aiko died when she was still only a teenager, her life having been cut short in a fatal car crash. She remembered thinking about her best friend in her final moments, how badly she'd wanted to confess her feelings but never got the opportunity to do so. Knowing that she would never be able to now, she prayed that she would have the chance to be with her again in another life.
As it turned out, she was reincarnated as the heroine of the otome game called The Light Maiden's Quest for Love!, one of her favorite games in her past life. Little did she know that her dearest friend had followed her, but she never could have anticipated that the other would be cast into the unfortunate role of the cursed villainess, the very same woman whom she was fated to strike down!

Aʙɪʟɪᴛɪᴇs:
☼ Lumomancy ☼
As the heroine of the story, Aiko was gifted with the rare ability to wield light magic. A lumomancer can manipulate photons and bend light to their will in whatever way they see fit. For offensive spells, this normally takes the form of concentrated 'beams' of light that can burn and damage enemies, but this is not the only method one might employ. Aiko can also summon orbs of light that can home in on a target or give the light itself a semi-solid state to form weapons or forcefields out of it. Her power is at its strongest in direct sunlight, but she can also use it in the darkness at the cost of a slight debuff. It is especially effective against unholy creatures but equal to dark magic, which it is both strong and weak against.
When it comes to the field of lumomancy, there are two sub-classes associated with it.
☼ Healing ☼
Mastery over light magic allows the user to heal their allies with the soothing, pacifying effects of light. All she needs to do is concentrate her power over her target's wounds, but it takes a high level of control to maintain the right output and is highly draining for the caster. Aiko has trained extensively in this particular sub-class and can easily heal smaller wounds, with the caveat that she can only speed up the recovery process for more fatal injuries and the individual in question will still require plenty of time and rest. She can also heal herself, provided she has enough mana to do so.
☼ Illusions ☼
The second sub-class of lumomancy is the ability to create and manipulate illusions. This can be anything from manipulating light to make a rainbow to actually turning oneself invisible through a similar, yet much more complex process. As this is one of her weaker areas, Aiko isn't yet advanced enough to conceal herself completely. However, she can still cast minor illusions to confuse and perplex her foes, such as briefly blinding/blurring their vision or creating a mirage effect that causes them to lose their balance or footing.

Oᴛʜᴇʀ: The weapons that she uses are a pair of dual chakrams that she has dubbed her Sun Slicers, both for them being shaped like suns and for the fact that she combines them with her light magic to make them shine and increase their damage output. Because of their versatility they can be used both as melee weapons in close-range and thrown for long-range purposes, with the magic that powers them ensuring that they return to their wielder each time. For this reason she doesn't really need any other weapons, but she still has some experience when it comes to using swords, guns, and bows.
She is a bit of a nut when it comes to weapons and their components. She loves encountering new weapons and trying out all sorts of different fighting styles, even becoming excited when her opponent demonstrates techniques she's never seen before.
Aiko's sense of taste is strangely warped. She is used to eating low quality food and even enjoys it better than fancy, refined dishes. She also loves sour tastes and will put lemon on just about anything. Strange combinations of food that would make most people gag is considered to be fine dining to her.
Tends to be bad at traditionally 'feminine' things such as cooking, cleaning, sewing, and fashion, but she is still fascinated by these topics nonetheless and always willing to learn new things.
She enjoys working out and is actually quite athletic.
