Hickory Ridge is a small town nestled in the Floridian wilderness. Humble in its origins, the town itself lies at the bottom of a valley surrounded by formidable mountain ranges. Mind you, there aren’t any mountain ranges in Florida, but this is a fictional setting in a fictional town, one that I would even argue exists on a parallel version of earth because of its fantastical themes. With mountains surrounding the valley basin on all sides and a vast, plentiful lake stretching for miles behind them, their only connection to the outside world lies to the west. The nearest highway is the Duette, and that's not for another 100 miles northwest, but the smaller Duette road eventually connects to the only vehicle entrance and exit into or out of Hickory Ridge; the west bridge. There is a massive, 2 and a half mile-wide river cutting them off from any other routes out of the winding mountains, and that bridge is their only way across. Any other aid, shipped goods, or trade must be delivered by ship or air. Even then, there’s no proper place for an airport, so most items are delivered via helicopters.
Despite their remote location and minimal nature, their economy thrives as a fishing and lumber town. However, recent years has seen an uptick in crime and larger criminal organizations moving in, if only because of how truly cut off from the rest of the world Hickory Ridge is. Aside from a few unwelcome guests, the town has a population of about 5k and is a close-knit community.

Jacob’s River
The river that the west bridge crosses.
Jacob’s Crest
The mountain that’s closest and most easily accessible to Hickory Ridge. Often used as a hiking trail, a popular hunting spot, and a fire watch tower is located there to alert the town should a wildfire be approaching.
Archie Lake
A stupidly vast lake that harbors many diverse species of freshwater fish. It can only be crossed by ship, and even then, mountains surround the lake. However, a six-hour trip can be made to the other side, where a proper airstrip is located for shipping and receiving purposes. Fishing vessels and shipping vessels can be found at the docks, as well as a small tourist ferry service that follows the mountain range.
