Condoms, or the Lack Thereof, in Play

I just thought this would be interesting to bring up and get opinions on…

One thing I’ve noticed in my nearly two decades of doing ERP is that when it comes to erotic scenes, prophylactics are almost never brought up. It’s never a real issue or concern, the woman rarely encourages her partner to put one on, or he doesn’t really stop to think about it.

I’m wondering if this is partly because given that RP is a fantasy, condoms are inherently less sexy, just as with porn and the rarity of rubbers in those films. Is it the pregnancy risk? The appeal of creampies? The notion that these characters, whoever they may be, wouldn’t bother with such things before fucking each other’s brains out?

90% of my partners have a breeding/risk of pregnancy kink or enjoyment so I rarely find my girls ever being on the receiving end of condoms, but I think it's as you mentinoed-- it's all fantasy, there's no risk to me or anyone else of actually getting pregnant in a story and in theory it's a lot more intimate to feel the person without any barrier in between.

I enjoy some sort of condom play at times myself since it's more rare-- and it adds a level of fantasy 'fun' especially if said condom is able to break from either too much cum or the vigorous way they'd make love causing it to burst/tear. But for the most part I think just having it be a coin-flip and having that risk is exciting for many so that's just the way it's going to be, condoms are practical for real-life applications to avoid many harmful backlash in sex, like STD's and unwanted pregnancies, in RP's you can just imagine anything you want and it's completely safe and fun, so that's the reason in my mind why condoms aren't used very much in these plays!

Haha, so this is an interesting thing for me. Hate condoms in real life, I got an IUD just so I wouldn't have to use them. They don't feel good, and creampies are too hot to pass up, to be honest. Plus, most roleplays I do are usually some form of medieval fantasy, I suppose you could have magical condoms or something of that nature but idk that really takes me out of it. I know condoms have been around in various forms for a long ass time but I have no idea what the ancient Mesopotamian condom was like and frankly I'm not about to find out.

Plus, I'm not a guy but I've heard from most guys that they also don't like to wear them because it reduces sensitivity. I guess with all of these things combined it's just like, why would we actively hinder ourselves when we can just rawdog it and have nothing come of it since it's fiction? However, like Mint said there is a bit of an appeal in the connotations of it breaking, so I probably wouldn't be opposed to that. Oh, and another thing that seems kind of hot, the whole "condom belt" thing in hentai. As much as I'd prefer for the cum to go in MC rather than into a condom, there is something to be said for the dude pulling out and there's like a balloon of cum in his rubber. So, generally speaking I'd rather not include them to allow for those sweet internal cumshots, but for the occasional scene it could be interesting maybe.

As someone who enjoys seeing condom-play in doujins and such it is always a nice inclusion. Have condom explode inside of MC or my partners character due to the reasons Mint already said? Yes please! Using them as some sort of tally to see how many times the character has cum and seeing them lying in bed and in room? Heck yeah! Tying them on clothes and such? Also really neat, or just milking characters cum in one and doing whatever the frick we can think of in the RP? Double yes!

However as brought up in the opening post people usually assume that condoms are inherently obsolete in a fantasy world where the pregancy and risk of it for the characters can be written off or alternative contraceptions can be used or they want the risk of pergnancy or breeding be part of the game it is something I usually need to bring up myself if I want to see it in the said RP.

However like 99% of my kinks it's not a must, and I can take it or leave it. Absolutely adore partners who like it and want to include it, but I don't mind excluding them in RP either, and it's definitely not something I don't want to include in every smut scene either.

Condoms fall into the same obscure category of when does your character use the restroom? Sure you write a shower scene to freshen up. But you never actually take time to describe then using the restroom. That and a list of other things like getting mail, doing laundry, running errands, or any other mundane tasks are usually never addressed since it kills the story’s motion.

So it’s better to assume to either ignore these activities because it doesn’t make the roleplay more fun and this definitely includes condoms. Condoms can be used in the story if it’s a slice of life and both characters are fumbling with it since they’re virgins. But as the story progresses their character progression can be shown and not told by how easily they put it on before getting it on.

Also...I’m fairly certain goatskin was used as condoms before latex. Smut is much less steamy when putting on goatskin rather than latex.

I think its predominantly because in RP everyone is free of venereal diseases and incapable of accidental pregnancy. You could cum ten times in someone, if they don't want to get pregnant? It's not happening.

From the POV of the penetrating partner, it's also nice having the option of either filling 'er up or pulling out before plastering her face.

Unless their inclusion is a specific kink, part of a specific kink or essential to the plot, their presence removes the presence of several other kinks.

It's just maths. Or something.

Because the females in my plots are already pregnant; if they're not, the point is for them to be :D

For me it's the same as writing fantasy or science fiction elements. Sure in the real world it's best to use a condom if you aren't planning on having kids but in Space Breeders: the Load Launching Longinoids having the lady toss the alien a condom seems out of place haha.

Personally, I have an impregnation risk/breeding kink so I usually don't have my characters wear them, but I'm not opposed to having my character wear them. I think putting on a condom could, if described in a particular manner, be sexy. It just really depends on the partner I'm playing with and what they want or don't want.

When she opens the wrapper, pops it in her mouth, takes you down her throat and pulls back revealing your cock perfectly neatly wrapped. Who says magic tricks can't be hot?

In many cases I do bring up the precaution of wearing condoms. But usually the characters are too horny and either my character or the partner character find the risk of pregnancy amusing.

I also do this with incest scenes, where it makes it easier to manipulate the partner's character by assuring safety and discretion by using a condom. Somewhere in the middle the condom comes off though. Almost always.

In MxM, there's no risk of pregnancy.

Diseases don't factor into my fantasy RPs, so... therefore no logical reason to even think about condoms. If someone asked for it, I'd write it. No big.

I have a bit of a condom kink, actually, but of course I've never really gotten to play around with it - maybe in large part because my preferred setting is fantasy. I'm all for dirty, casual, wanton sex (which I describe in an endearing, not disparaging way), which condoms are really symbolic of. Plus, having them visibly struggle to contain the amount of semen expelled during orgasm in an RP with exaggerated cum volume (as most of mine are) is potentially super hot.

no risk of pregnancy…unless? _( :3 」∠)_

but yea, generally, I don’t do run of the mill settings like modern/slice of life, so diseases don’t tend to factor into things. If pregnancy is a known risk, then I would definitely include them for the fun of it, but in the one modern rp I have, condoms are only a factor due to the risk of diseases rather than pregnancy since the two M’s in this rp are both cis men. I would say the use of condoms is its own brand of sexy, though.

mpreg is on my no-go list, but ooooookay. Sure.

Oviposition is sometimes ok... I think I'll ask about condoms next time someone suggests that.

From my experience, I have always been the one to bring up condoms to keep it realistic. I don't remember one of my partners ever bringing it up.
I always felt like condoms add something naughty to the rp, like I would not ask my bf to wear one, but if I'm cheating or having sex with a stranger he would wear one.
