YC is a rōnin, a wandering samurai without a master who travels the land and makes their living as a blade for hire for anyone with the coin. MC is a miko, a shrine maiden tending to an old, abandoned shrine in the mountains. After the nearby village was raided and wiped out, her shrine no longer saw any visitors, with even her fellow miko having been slaughtered in the attack. Now, she is the only one left to take care of an empty shrine to a deity whose name has been all but forgotten. She spends her days in solitude, praying and hunting local game to keep herself fed, never straying far from the only home she's ever known even as the years pass and no one arrives.
Until, one day, someone does arrive. The rōnin comes seeking shelter— perhaps wounded after a fight, they stumble upon the abandoned shrine and its sole attendant. MC, having been all alone for so long, is extremely curious about YC and welcomes them inside, wanting to help them. For a fully dark turn, maybe YC decides to plunder the lone miko, seeing the perfect opportunity to take her for themselves without any repercussions. Otherwise, perhaps MC nurses yours back to health and once they're able to move again she asks them for a favor. She offers them the small fortune of gold still leftover in the shrine seeing as she no longer has any use for it, requesting that they take her with them across the land to a location where she was told the divine burial place of her goddess sleeps. By going there, MC believes that she will be able to revive her goddess and restore her name, bringing worshippers to her shrines once more.
It's a long journey riddled with danger due to ferocious creatures and rogue warriors alike inhabiting the lands, making such a trip impossible on her own. Even beyond that, both of our protagonists likely have their own secrets to hide from one another. As a rōnin, YC likely either lost their master or was cast out and disgraced by their people, forced to become a vagabond who must avoid the bounty out on their head as they deal with the demons from their past. MC, an orphan who never knew anything but her role as a shrine maiden, may finally discover who she is and uncover the dark secrets of her birth. And when they finally do reach the goddess' resting place, will her dream come to fruition at last? Or is there a more sinister plot going on behind the scenes?
I'm open to MC being either part-oni, kitsune, elf, or human, and YC being either an oni, lamia, dragonkin, or human (or more!). My idea for this is to play MC as a relatively innocent yet touch starved maiden, her longing for warmth and interaction leading to her perhaps being a bit too touchy-feely with YC, not understanding that it's seen as improper for two unmarried individuals to be physical with one another. Also, due to being isolated in the mountains for so long, she doesn't understand much of society's rules or the fact that YC is basically shunned and vilified for being what they are. If one or both of our characters aren't human I could also see that being a big thing in the plot, perhaps having to face racism and even the threat of slavery because of their race.
The reason I put Japan in quotation marks is because this setting won't take place in Japan so much as a fantasy land inspired by it. Japanese names, weapons, customs, clothing, and all that would be the norm, but we'll come up with our own locations and people for the world. I'm not going to be a stickler about historical accuracy, this isn't even set in a specific period in history, all you really need to know is that there are no cars, guns, electricity, or modern conveniences, but there is magic and a corrupt shogunate that will come into play.

In this plot, YC is a vampire. They can be as ancient or as newly-turned as you'd like them to be, but there are two things that they desire: blood and companionship. Whether that is companionship in the form of a bride, or total control over a slave, they have been searching for the perfect target to share their immortality with. Who better to bestow the dark gift upon than MC, a human in desperate need, one willing to do anything to save herself?
On a dark night, YC finds MC, inches from death and seemingly beyond saving. At least, beyond saving by any mundane means. Perhaps they'd been stalking her for a while now - maybe her demise was even planned by YC for this very purpose, attacking her openly or making it look like an accident. Or, maybe it truly was just a chance encounter that they would come across the dying woman on a night when both of them needed it the most. MC is given a choice: perish now and pass on to an unknown afterlife, or accept YC's bite and become their thrall forevermore.
In the end, her will to live overcame her fear of this fanged stranger and their intense, predatory gaze.
After being drained of blood and awakening anew, MC finds that her throat burns with thirst, one that can only be quenched by blood. Her teeth have sharpened, her senses have heightened, and her very being belongs to YC, her maker. YC may decide to treat her cruelly and abuse their power over her, keeping her as a servant and blood bag for their own amusement. She desires their blood just as much as they desire hers, but YC can refuse her if they wish, forcing her to feed on vermin and take innocent lives to prolong her own. Otherwise, they can ease her into her new life as a vampiric thrall, teaching her their ways and slowly but surely fostering a bond of trust between them. She will need to learn about vampire society, and the two of them will no doubt be caught up in its treacherous, bloody waters. With the added threat of hunters on the horizon, there is no doubt the pair will have to tread carefully and learn to rely on one another in a world that detests and shuns their kind.
These two can be played as more 'evil' or more 'good', but it won't be entirely black and white. Their bond has inherent power dynamics, with MC relying on yours to live and YC having the ability to control mine into doing their bidding, if they so wish. If that isn't murky enough already, there are also certain expectations in vampire society that they must live up to. Thralls are seen as slaves, first and foremost, and never on the same level as true vampires. While YC would likely be the more dominant one, I could see them being a switch as well, maybe 'allowing' their thrall to act her own desires upon them at times for mutual enjoyment.

Set in a bleak, gritty dystopian society, our characters are siblings (they can be twins or YC can be older). The two were originally raised together in a brothel by their mother, a prostitute who fell in love with one of her clients. Despite having two kids with the courtesan, their father didn't have the funds to buy her from the brothel, so he enlisted in the military hoping that he would emerge a war hero with enough money to support his new family. Sadly, he was killed in combat, and the courtesan was so devastated that she ended up taking her own life, unable to bear the thought of raising their children alone. Thus, YC and MC became orphans. While they were originally kept around to do chores and clean, they eventually escaped together after YC overheard talk of the madam's plans to turn MC into a courtesan once she was of age.
Without a home, the siblings became street rats. Perhaps they learned to steal, or do odd jobs, or panhandled— anything they had to to get by. They only had each other to rely on as they grew up in the hellish, crime-infested streets of the city. They were mistreated, shunned, and abhorred by all those who deemed them lowly filth, their lives constantly under threat of violence and starvation. However, the siblings had a secret that they kept to themselves: they were both born with elemental magic, a rare power that only a chosen few are ever fated to wield. They made a promise never to use their powers except for in an emergency because of the danger it could bring to them and others if it fell into the wrong hands.
At the start of the roleplay, their secret is finally revealed when a great beast breaks through the walls of the town and YC has to make a split second decision to save himself and his sister. After having his strength witnessed, YC is chosen to become an Ash Lord, one of the most powerful and honored warriors in the realm. With MC's talents, she is assigned to be his Handmaiden, an attendant who will aid him in the trials to come. She also acts as something of a bride, expected to serve and please her lord beyond simply fighting alongside him. The two of them are taken outside of the city walls for the first time in their lives to see the reality that lies beyond. They are greeted with a twisted no man's land full of monstrosities that hunt humans and an uninhabitable, unforgiving environment.
The two siblings are now revered for their status, rising up from the bottom rung where they scraped by for food and slept in hovels to enjoying lavish feasts and parties as the upper echelons of society schmooze with and celebrate them. The downsides greatly outweigh the benefits, however. The siblings are thrust into a life of combat, having to rely on each other to keep the city safe from the beasts that threaten to encroach upon it. On top of that, they are sent on perilous missions to delve further into the wastelands and hunt for resources, new land to claim, or even new beasts to study. The rulers of their land use them and treat them like tools, feeding them lies that they're heroes when in reality they're merely fodder for an unwinnable battle against nature. In light of this fact, will they continue to obey their orders and put their lives on the line for a city that only ever treated them like scum? Or will they forge their own path and look for a future where they can be together in peace at last?
I don't have all the details figured out for this plot, it's definitely open to further alterations. We could also have the two main characters be childhood friends instead of siblings if that's preferable. Whatever the case, there will be lots of fighting and hurt/comfort for our main two. I do see them as being pretty close, probably protective of one another, but they don't realize their feelings go any deeper than that until later on in the story. I like the idea of them having contrasting powers, like light/dark, fire/ice, electricity/water, etc.

The basic premise here is that YC is the master of MC, a maid who has either been genetically enhanced for combat or was perhaps raised as a soldier. Because of the many possibilities, there are limitless ideas for how our characters could have met and why they're in their current situation. Maybe MC was a test subject who escaped and was rescued by YC, making her extremely loyal to them and willing to become their servant. Or maybe YC and MC met in war as soldiers on opposing sides, the two of them fated to kill each other in battle, but perhaps YC took mercy on MC and desired her strength for their own purposes instead? Another option is that MC could have been gifted to YC, a fallen noble with many enemies who could use a good bodyguard. Or YC might have ordered or created her themselves, not realizing that an artificial being could develop feelings for her master.
The backstory between them is up to us to decide upon, but I'm definitely seeing a lot of action and fighting in this story. I do see the maid as being very protective over her master for one reason or another, and very needy for their attention and praise. Guard dog vibes for sure. YC is variable, they could dislike her initially and see her as a handful, even treating her cruelly despite her lovingness towards them, or they could be very protective over their maid as well, perhaps even nurturing. Depending on YC's origins, they may have plenty of enemies that their maid will tirelessly defend them from. That, or maybe the master desires conquest and uses their maid to that end, a cause that she would be happy to fight for if it means pleasing them. She is very much a true neutral and could be molded into either evil or good depending on the alignment of YC.
If modern or medieval, I can see MC being either a human or some sort of kemonomimi, probably a cat/dog girl or one with horns. If sci-fi, I like the idea of her being either an android or some sort of cyborg. YC can really be whatever you want, anything would fit into this setting.
I'm getting 'smol girl swinging a big sword' and "I'll protect you, Master!!" vibes as well.

Now, I know what you must be thinking. Really, Zephy? The cliché knight x princess trope? Well, yes, but this is dark romance after all, so it's not quite as it seems. Indeed, YC is a knight who has sworn his life to guard the prized princess of the peaceful, prosperous kingdom of Phantasia. However, not all is well in the royal court. The roleplay can start out with either YC being newly assigned as the princess' retainer, or a veteran knight who has been at her side for years. Perhaps he has feelings for her, or perhaps he's never cared much for her at all. Regardless, MC is due to be married to the prince of another kingdom - a cruel, callous man that she refuses to be wed to. Yet her parents ignore her pleas, determined to do what they believe is best for the future of their monarchy.
On the eve that she is to be shipped off to become an unwilling bride, her husband-to-be is mysteriously murdered in cold blood. This can be the result of YC's actions or completely unrelated, but the incident sparks terror and outrage in the court. Nobles begin to fall victim to attacks one after the other, and many believe it to be the work of an anti-Crown agenda. Despite the unease surrounding them, the King and Queen of Phantasia, in all their hubris, scoff at the idea. The princess is ordered to return to her lessons and duties as normal while they look for a new suitor, leaving her in the care of her knight. All the while, a killer lurks in their midst, waiting patiently for the right moment to strike.
To more quickly find their daughter a husband, a ball is held at the castle where many nobles from all different kingdoms will be in attendance. Our roleplay starts on the day of the ball, when the castle will come under siege and bloodshed will fill the halls, staining the dance floor crimson. YC, already prepared for the outcome and possibly having predicted it, escapes with MC and together they flee into the shadowy streets, unaware of the true extent of the lives lost that night or who is behind the murders. It isn't until the next day when they find out that the King and Queen have been executed and, shockingly, it is the princess herself who has somehow been framed for the crime. Before they can clear her name, they must find out who the real perpetrator is and avoid being discovered in the meantime.
For the knight, I was thinking he might be played as more sadistic and bloodthirsty, or coldhearted and stern to fit in better with the dark setting. For the princess, she can be polite, but I can also see her as something of a bossy, arrogant girl who may need to be put in her place from time to time. If you're open to it, I have an idea for an incest spin on this plot. YC and MC could be siblings, either with YC being her older half-brother and a bastard son to the King, or with him being a full-blooded twin brother but for whatever reason he is pushed to the side instead of getting to claim the title of prince. Maybe because he's been cursed with dark magic and intense, homicidal urges that he can hardly control, making him unfit to rule. Whether they already know they're siblings or it's something they find out later is up to us, but it definitely would have been kept a secret from the rest of the kingdom.
Not only is this roleplay based off of the story by the Brothers Grimm, but I've also taken inspiration from the song 'Me and Mr Wolf' by The Real Tuesday Weld. On a snowy night in a dark, enchanted forest, a girl in a red hood wanders aimlessly. Her name is Red - or at least, that's what she'll tell you it is. Through the trees, glowing eyes watch her every move, their owner hidden among the branches as they anticipate their next meal.
However, when The Wolf approaches Red, it becomes clear that she is not the helpless, innocent girl she seems.
Red is a hunter working for a secret society of cloaked individuals that track down and eliminate supernatural threats. When she sees The Wolf, she realizes she has found her target. As she lures them in sweetly, the two killers come face to face, hunter against hunted. Only then do they feel a strong pull toward one another, an obsession blooming between them that is practically lethal. The Wolf yearns to tear into her flesh and devour her wholly, while Red aches to sink her blade into their heart and watch the life fade from their eyes. Bloodthirst and lust mix in the air, a chill of excitement running through her as she holds her weapon to their chest, feeling claws at her neck. The girl speaks, breathless:
"Care to strike up a deal?"
Two killers working together can only end in tragedy - she expects this, and perhaps they do, too, but it doesn't stop her from making the proposal anyway. Red will bring The Wolf victims to feast upon, using her maidenly charms to coax unsuspecting travelers to their den, if only The Wolf will play nice and reserve their claws for her enemies. Plus, she may desire that they help satiate her other appetites as well...
This plot will likely have plenty of smut as Red is pretty much a horny bitch who desires to fuck YC even more than she wishes to gut them. Expect hate fucking, and possibly role reversal/switching as well, if desired. The Wolf can either be a werewolf shapeshifter with a normal human form, or a more anime-inspired wolf boy/girl with ears and a tail. Because of their nature, I imagine that YC will have periods of heat/rut where they're exceptionally aroused, so MC's deal will also help them in that sense as well. I'm also open to the possibility of MC also being a wolf/fox/rabbit/lamb or other animal-person, but I do prefer if both of them are on the more human side rather than full anthro. The Wolf's backstory and motivations are completely up to you to shape as you'd like.
