Whats the biggest turn off in an RP?

In the planning phase, I'd say getting an answer like "I like that!" or something similar to a detailed message I sent is a surefire way to deflate any motivation I might've had for a potential roleplay. I don't need a 1000-word response or anything, but just something to work with.

In RP, I don't think there's very many things that turn me off. Doing something that's clearly in my offs is a good one, but I've never had that happen. Probably controlling my characters would be the one thing.

Doing something that's specifically listed in my don'ts/turn-offs. If you respect those, it takes a lot to get me to drop an RP.

A sex scene that goes on and on and on. Paragraph after paragraph after paragraph of like a hundred posts.
Conversely: taking FOREVER to get to the sex. Unless it’s specifically set as an SFW/platonic or romance-without-sex story. I like buildup and setting the scene, but I also do not look forward to waiting for what feels like years to read about how a girl is bouncing so hard on my character’s dick he could shoot his load any moment.

For me it would be one liners. Don’t get me wrong, we all have different levels of skill and grammar. But when I give a multi paragraph reply. And you give me a one liner, well I’m just not going to respond anymore.

That "He could shoot his load any moment" part brought up a very important one; god-modding. Filling in blanks about your partner(s) character(s) without just asking them, taking control of their character without their permission, or otherwise ignoring their agency. There are better ways of describing your character as good at sex—such as describing their actions in the bedroom—than constantly claiming your partners are on the brink of orgasm. The scene just started. Is this gonna be a ten rounds kind of thing, or are you just wanting to push the sex scene out of the way ASAP? I feel like this is stuff that should've come up in OoC...

Yeah I can’t tell you how irritating it is when the characters just started having vaginal and it’s heavily implied from my partner’s posts she wants him to cum already. Really? Like okay if your dick-riding skills are so good you have him ready to explode after just a few minutes…but I don’t like being pressured into having my character cum before I want him to.

Right? There's easier ways to achieve that. Like. I totally respect my partner going; "Alright, we're ten posts into this sex scene, can we switch positions or reach the climax already?" and that's fiiiine. I'm perfectly content with ending a scene my partner is no longer having fun in and moving on somehow. But that's what OoC is for. Yes, we can absolutely move on. I'm not gonna be an ass and force you to keep missionary going for another 15 posts. But like... warn a girl before time skipping to the next morning?

By the same token, not a fan of being goaded into having my character finish in a certain way/place. It should be my decision whether my guy goes off inside her or pulls out and splatters her face; if you have a preference, that’s fine, but bring it up before the scene.

Same logic. I don't know why people feel that suddenly partner agency doesn't matter anymore when the RP goes sexual. There's unspoken rules for RP that are meant to be constants.

Exactly. If her character is giving mine a blowjob, I’m not going to try to rush her or act like MC is getting bored of it or wants to move on; and given that the vast majority of sexual intercourse starts with fellatio, it feels asshole-ish to try and move on from it too quickly or have my character suddenly try to stop it.

I need to find who you're RPing with if the majority of your RPs feature fellatio. I think what we're talking is a larger problem of "lack of Out Of Character Communication" xD

Lmao it is funny how a lot of sites I’ve been to seem to have people who are BJ-averse XD

I mean yeah that’s why we make F-Lists or clearly outline kinks and limits OOC; and if something isn’t going the way you like during a sex scene, I think it should be okay for either partner to speak up if there feels like a miscommunication happening.

One liners by far. There is nothing like doing a 300-1000 word opener only to get less than a sentence in return.

Other than consistently bad grammar/spelling, I'd say controlling MC. It's one thing to safely assume or suggest a character's action with openness, but I had some partners in the past try to write for my character; MCs actions and feelings.

Yeah, this pisses me off like no other. You need to give people agency to decide their actions/feelings, otherwise the entire RP is pointless, and you might as well write a book.

I run mom/son's bully prompts on reddit regularly. My primary annoyance is that a lot of RPers are interested in the taboo nature of the mom and bully but then try to shuffle the son out of the story when his presence and bullying is a key part of the story. Like there's a specific element of the prompt they really like and the rest is something to try to discard or ignore. Annoying as hell, and I screen for it almost immediately.

Not respecting my limits/rules.
Rather, sending me requests when clearly they haven't read my deal-breaker. There is only ONE rule in orange text...and so many people don't read it.
I am not inclined to respond or start anything if that boundary is not respected.

Not so much as turn-off in plot but in plotting... when you have to basically beg for your own interests/kinks to be mentioned in the plotting. It's become all too common for me to ask about potential partners interests and kinks and I always make such a strong effort to include it somehow in the story. (Ex: if they have a breeding/pregnancy kink, I try and come up with a general outline to have the story end with MC pregnant), they're always willing to talk about their interests, but never once even mention mine or make an effort to include them.

That's by far nowadays my biggest turn-off.

Yeah, this is honestly the worst. I hate roleplaying with people who don't even try to play to the other partners interests.

^ With what Mint and Chadmaxxxer brought up; not having your RT/F-list/kinks easily accessible via a link in your signature or something. So I can know what your interests are. If I'm the one who contacted you, I probably found your RT and so would be aware of your preferences, but if they're not in your signature, now I have to hunt them down in your profile; and if you're the active type, I'm going to have to hunt through your posts for a while before finding it unless you're the type to bump it up regularly. It's not a MASSIVE turn-off, but it's a QoL issue.

Repeating my post back to me in other words and not moving the scene forward.

I can totally appreciate that, and have certainly been there. I'm going to go the opposite way and say massively long replies that are in effect soliloquys. What did my character do? Did he just stand there as your character did and said all of that? Did he just traipse around following the other character without a single emotional reaction or reply as they spew dialogue like a Shakespearean performer? It just completely throws me out of the writing.

People consistently ignoring key details I've dropped. If I mentioned that Side Character #1 is soft-spoken and works as an accountant, and then in your post you somehow completely overlook that and try to write Side Character #1 as being bold, flirty, and a CEO, I'll know you didn't actually read through what I wrote. Which just baffles me because I read through my partners' posts, like, at least three times before I even begin to respond, and then read through it again as I'm typing my own. I think it's most common that people might fumble with a few small things like names or appearances, hell, I've probably done this on occasion before too. I really can't stand it though if it goes beyond the realm of just forgetting or getting something mixed up and into the territory of "yeah this isn't even remotely in line with the concept I introduced".

Also people who write for MC like they know her thoughts or something. Now, you could say something like, "he pressed his thumb into her tongue and figured she would enjoy sucking on it", but don't say "he pressed his thumb into her tongue to her great delight while she went crazy over it". The first one is fine because it's how YC *thinks* MC might feel, but the second one is pretty much hard-coding how she feels into the narrative. Like, did she go crazy over it? Maybe, but I haven't written that part yet, so why are you assuming? If I have written it, feel free to expand upon it, but don't treat your own ideas for what MC's reaction is like they actually happened.
