And just as usual, Aethro was gone. He had a job to do, after all. Who knew how long he'd be gone this time. But, she knew he would come back. He always did.

She tried to keep cheery about it, but the first day or so after he left, she would always feel down. She cleaned up what messes there were, and was expecting a slow day,

The door swung open and heavy footfalls creaked the wood. They weren't the heavy footed steps she was used to, so she didn't bother looking up at first.

"You wouldn't happen to be the little harlot sticking her nose where it don't belong, would you?" A voice asked behind her, the steps stopping not far from where she stood.

She paused for a moment, turning to start looking back towards the voice. β€œWhy, I have no idea who you’re talking about.” There was a pistol underneath the counter, if she could just get closer.

As soon as she turned, she was grabbed roughly by the throat and pulled forward, into the face of an ugly and angry man.
"If you know what's good for you, you'll knock that shit off real fast."

She gasped, choking and struggling. β€œG-Get the f-fuck out of my bar.” She stammered out, still trying to reach for anything.

"I mean it. I don't want to have to come back." Hr hissed before throwing her against the counter roughly, glaring at the people who were about to get up and wrangle him for grabbing Loraine.

She gasped and coughed as she picked herself up off the ground. β€œGet out!” She shouted, moving to grab the pistol.

She was shaking. Shit, how did someone find her? She needed to hide, she needed Aethro. She thanked her patrons for looking after her, and told them that she’d be out of town for a while. She set up the bar’s automated services, making sure everything ran smoothly in her absence.

But who even knew where Aethro was? No one even liked talking about him, let alone keeping eyes on him. This was going to be tough.

She began putting out calls for him, using some of the comm channels she’d heard him use before. She was already on the road, keeping herself as hidden as possible.

She didn't know how long she had been walking for, the heat making the time blend, before she heard something in the distance. There was a dark speck making its way toward her.

She stopped, frozen for a moment before she ducked behind some rocks, clutching her small pistol. Please just let it be him.

She could hear the hooves grow closer and closer, the soft huffs and whinnies of a cyber horse growing louder.
"Lore!" The mechanical voice of Aethro's exosuit traveled well over the desert, "Lore, it's safe!"

She nodded and took his arm, hopping onto his ride behind him. β€œThank you.. I didn’t know who else to turn to..
