The rest of the morning passed by almost uneventfully, if that were possible. By the time it was around three in the afternoon, all of them were settled around the bonfire. Aiden, as usual, remained as quiet as he could. His face was one of polite disinterest as he averted his gaze from the sights all around him. Despite what had happened between him and Callie the previous night, it was startling that the others seemed to not care about privacy. He had to hide a grimace as he watched Sarah, and for a moment, he imagined all of them as their stone-age ancestors. What else could explain that behavior? Not that he particularly cared, anyway... he was mostly focused on Andrea, as she then walked towards the woods along with Matthew. It was not past dark yet, and that was probably the reason why they hadn't been bothered.
He straightened up to his feet, averting his gaze from what Ethan was up to as he followed Callie. Giving her a nod to suggest that it was time, he followed Andrea at a safe distance. Matthew's involvement was unexpected, but the two of them should be enough to corner him if they were careful. As long as they were taken by surprise, it should work. Or so he hoped.
"Just wait until they are deep enough in the woods," he whispered out of the corner of his mouth. "We don't want the others to hear their screams." And what if they did? Hopefully, the distance would just make them think it was a strange animal or something.
Minutes later, just as he was beginning to get tired of playing catch-up, he noticed a relatively small rock on the ground. It was not a rod as he might have hoped, but it was enough. "C'mon," he said, attempting to get his hands around its surface. He hefted it up and glanced at her. "It should be enough to knock him out with one go... if you can risk a blow before he has time to dodge."
