Evander knew he was in trouble before he saw the group of them move towards him. He had always been a little sensitive to his surroundings. Something had just felt off as he cut across the ally to save some time. The four men who followed him didn't seam to care.

"Wha-" He managed to say before a fist found its way into his stomach, causing him to buckle over. Rather than letting him fall, a set of hand hoisted him back up by his shirt collar, letting another strike land on the side of his face. Stunned for a second, he watched as the men tore the Rolex from his wrist before he felt another blow; this time across the back of his skull.

"My judgment is final Serra. You are banished to the human world to protect and serve this man." an ominous voice spoke, conjuring up a model of the man in cloud. "But why Lord, just because he actually saw me for once? I was in a human disguise!" she shouted and then shied away. Serra felt the wrath coming. "You dare argue with me! Insolent fool, I could wash you from existence with a blink of my eye. The only reason I am not is because he needs you. And I love him, not you." he spoke and then turned to her. "Go, now, save him." he finished and went back to watching the world as it was.

Serra folded her arms over her naked breasts and shook her head. "This isn't fair..." she said quietly and moved over to a viewing pool where she could watch people of earth. She mentioned Drake's name and the image of him being mugged came into view. "Ugh, what timing..." then she turned. "What powers will I have Lord?" she asked. "All your powers shall be manifested to you. Though you shall never set foot in heaven again. When he dies, you shall die." he replied in a booming voice. Serra sighed and closed her eyes and fell through the viewing pool...

In the dirty alley, a small light appeared, and got brighter, and brighter as Serra began to appear right before the four human's eyes. Her body appeared first in the nude, as all angels were in heaven and then clothes began to wrap around herself as she slowly floated down onto the alley floor. Her clothes were pure white with gold trim. And when she finally touched the ground of the human world, her wings disappeared and she was fully in a human disguise, her pure white clothes turning into some kind of fashionable wear of the time. Looking to the muggers, she waved a hand and they flew back against the a nearby wall. Obviously knocked out cold. "Evander. Don't worry about them. Grab your things and let's go." she said, obviously leaving many questions for Evan himself to ponder. "They won't remember a thing." she added and looked behind her for anyone who might have seen her.

It took him a minute to see through the haze the beating had given him, but Evan knew he had heard a woman's voice. With his vision focusing, he was able to perceive her form. Swallowing at the vision before him, he felt the hot sting of iron in his mouth. He winced lightly as his tongue confirmed the split on the inside of his cheek, but still found strength to slowly stand and talk despite the pain the rest of his body was telling him.

"Wh- who are you? And more importantly, how is it that you know to call me Evan? My family's wealth means most people address us by our full name. Only close friends would use such casual and kind shortening, and I'm sure I've never seen you before. Someone so pleasant would be remembered even when my own name had been forgotten." He said as he watched the girl before him turn her face away to look back towards the street.

"Fool..." she sighed and looked back at him. "My name is Serra, just Serra. Your families wealth means jack shit to me. I will call you by the name I want to call you. Unless of course you order me to call you a certain way..." she thought. Her "boss" had ordered her to protect AND serve him. So that meant listened to the rich boy's little pleas. She had come on rather blunt though. "I...apologize, I didn't mean to sound so rude. It's just we should leave this area before we talk about certain things." she tried to say in a convincing manner.

"Serra." He replied, her voice rolling off his tongue like a light spring breeze. Deciding to trust the mysterious girl for the moment, as she had just saved his life and did not seem to wish any harm on him, he walked over to where the fallen watch sat ticking away.

Lifting it up, he noticed the clasp had broken from the rough treatment of ripping it from his arm. The lens face was cracked as well, most likely from hitting the ground as it fell out of the muggers' hands. He placed it in his front pocket before retrieving his wallet.

Once his effects were once again in his possession, he turned and spoke to her again. "I guess I am a fool. You risked you're life to save mine, and instead of thanking you, I question you motives. Would you forgive me?" He asked as he moved to stand next to her.

Serra just loved the way he talked, it seemed so proper. She was almost glad she was sent to serve this pompous noble. Watching him as he slowly gathered his things, the now more human angel rolled her eyes and then smiled when he looked to her. "I will promise to forgive you if we can get out of this area. Let's go." she said and began down the opposite direction her hand entered. "I am going to need to stay with you, is there a place we can go?" she asked quickly as they exited the alley way. The way she spoke seemed very unorthodox but she didn't know any better.

'He smile could melt even the coldest of hearts.' Evan thought as she started walking them out of the ally. "The flat that my family owns is just around the corner. Hence why I decided to cut thew the ally. Not the wisest of decisions I'm afraid to say." He said, his eyes slightly cast downward as he spoke.

Evander had caught the tone of her voice, and the fact that she mentioned staying with him, but felt pushing the matter at this point in time would be unwise. She had stated that she was willing to explain the matter once they were in a more secluded location, which was something he was actually familiar with. People in his level of society did not like having onlookers when business was discussed.

Serra didn't know that she had mentioned something so familiar to him, but whatever she did, she did it right. Her was leading them to one of his family's homes no doubt, somewhere safe where she could reveal who she truly was and what her intentions with her were. While they walked Serra thought about her predicament. She could have been paired with a much worse person, someone who was poor and had nothing. So the Lord did show favor somehow. She was going to have a rich...body to guard, in a sense.

A short walk later lead them to a rather luxurious hotel. The doorman standing out front nodded only once at them before letting them in. Several bellhops watched as they walked in, but noticed the lack of baggage and resumed their private conversations. The receptionist turned and was prepared to say something before Evan held out his room key. Seeing the number in bright gold, she turned back to the phone.

"I trust that you are not afraid of heights or elevators?" He asked as they walked towards the back of the lobby.

"If I were afraid of heights, then I would not be able to be what I am." she said and then thought about what she just let come out of her mouth. "How confusing." she laughed and looked at him. "You'll understand soon enough." she said and waited for the elevator to arrive. "Is anyone going to be here?" she inquired.

[[Dialogue always is short, you know?]]

(Yeah but that's okay. Sometimes talking gets in the way of the story. We can start having them talk a little more openly in a minute.)

"Only my butler. I just came here for a week to relax a little away from the mansion. All the servants running about can cause things to get confusing at times." He replied as the door dinged open. "I can tell him to step out to retrieve some refreshments if you like. Perhaps a nice fruit spread? And tea, seeing as it's mid-afternoon. Much too late for coffee." Evan added as he stepped in and pressed the button for the penthouse floor.

Serra followed behind him with a feint smile and waited for the machine to start working. "That would be wonderful, though I have never had either of those." she admitted and looked around. Awkward moments. The information that need be told was far to important for him to be standing in and elevator when he learned of it. "Perhaps, we can retire to your room for the things I must tell you?" she suggested.

Evan blushed lightly as her sudden request. While not a virgin, he was still a tad shy in matters of intimacy. "I-If you would be more comfortable in such a setting." He managed to stammer out before the doors slid open.

There was no hallway, nor second door to step threw: the elevator opened directly to a penthouse suite. If the outside was lavish, then no word existed to describe the area they now stood. The floor was coated with soft white carpet that could be felt threw ones shoes. A full size, industrial kitchen sat to the right, composed of black marble counter tops with inlays of gold and steel appliances polished to a high mirror shine. The left side held several doorways which were all closed at the moment. Rooms most likely meant sleeping and bathing. The center area itself held a large mantled fireplace, several large white sofa's and chairs, and the largest section of glass in the building. Streak free, it allowed a perfect view of the city below without having to leave.

A tall black man began rising from one of the chairs as they entered. His clothing consisted of a black tux which looked like it cost more than what a middle class family spent a year on food. "Demitri, this is Miss Serra. If you would be kind enough, would you let us have a few moments alone?" The big man nodded once before stepping away towards the elevator. "If you don't mind, some refreshments would be nice. I feel this visit may require them." Evan added politely. Giving another nod, the butler left without saying a word.

"Please don't mind his unwillingness to engage in conversation. He simply prefers to speak his mind when he feels it to be necessary." Evan said as he turned to address Serra.

Serra smiled at the young man's way of talking and entered into the flat first, as any gentleman would let her. The suite did not really amaze her, she had not really cared or known about the material things of earth, though she did know the types of people that lived on earth. Evan seemed to be one of the nice people, so it just went with the fact that nice people have nice homes. She did not know the meaning of rich and poor. Serra smiled at the butler of few words as he left and waved just a little before the doors closed. "It's quite alright, it just means he is good at doing his job. Which way to your room?" she inquired.

"The man bedroom is at the end of the hall. The bathroom is next to it and a second smaller bedroom it across from that." Evan replied stepping forward to show Serra the way.

Upon opening the door, the site of the bedroom matched that of the rest of the suite. A full stocked bar took up one side of the room a piano stood uncovered at the other. The bed itself was large and heart shaped, the covers on it red in color and made of silk. Evan let her look about the room before entering.

Serra entered and went over to the piano and hit a key, then another. She then looked back at him and stood. "I suppose you have questions, I can answer them now." she said and waited for them.

"Oookay." He replied, closing the door behind him. "First, I would like to know who you are. And, perhaps more importantly, how you were able to offer me aid? No one else saw what happened to me, yet you stopped them before any true harm had befallen me. Almost as if you knew I was in need of assistance."

"There is not much I can tell you about myself, for I am only named Serra. I have no last name, or middle name, or anything of the sort like you people do. And as for how I assisted you. I DID know that you were in trouble, I knew that you needed my help right away. So I came and gave it to you for that is what I do. Protect and Serve." she said and then shook her head. She kind of sounded phony.

"I'm afraid that I don't truly understand. How can anyone know when someone else is in danger? The future is no planned out. A persons actions decides the course of events that shape the world. Otherwise no one would take pride in their works. You yourself are an example of this fact: your could not know for sure that the men who attacked me would be so easily beaten. Yet you still did not hesitate to offer your aid. But afterword, you glanced around and seamed worried. As if someone might be watching you." He paused to move to the bed, letting his body settle down gently onto the mattress before he continued.

"You also have made a few intriguing comments. You've never had a cup of tea or a simple piece of fruit. You have no fear of heights and show no interest in the trappings of wealth that most people strive for. You introduce yourself as Serra and then say that I can call you what ever I wish. And finally..." he paused, gathering himself together for the next line, "finally you say that you will be staying with me. You do not wish me harm, for if you did, you would have done so back in the ally. This is all very confusing to me. You must think me an even greater fool than before."

"Not at all! I assure you I do not, it is hard for people like yourself to understand this. I should just tell you who, or I should say what I am. Then it will all seem possible to. Or perhaps not. Sorry, let me just show you." Serra moved to an open space within the room and closed her eyes, a bright light coming from within her shone magnificently as her clothes changed from modern, to robes of white with gold trim. And the most significant change were the two white wings that sprouted from her back. "I am your guardian angel, sent to protect and serve you until you perish. Does this explain anything for you?"

Evans' mouth hung partially opened as he stared at the divine being before him. It took a little while before he found his voice again. "I see now why you wished to have a private place to confer in. Your mere presence here means that there is indeed an after life. If everyone knew that, then the concept of free will would be meaningless. People need to wrestle with concepts of right and wrong, good and evil, in order to excel as a whole.

But while you have answered most of my previous questions with this one small act, one yet remains: you said that you would be staying with me. Not watching over me. I always was under the impression that Angels were to watch from afar. To guide with an unseen hand. Yet you have shown yourself openly to me. Why dear lady have you done so?" As Evan finished speaking, a soft rapt came on the door.

"Your refreshments are here sir." A deep voice said from the other side.
"Th-thank you Dimitri. I shall bring them in myself in a second." Evan replied, unsure how he would explain the creature of purity and light which stood before him now.

Serra turned away from him at the probing question and a tear ran down her face. "I was...banished from heaven." she admitted and then turned around. "For coming to earth once as a small dare by the other angels. They assured me no wrong would befall me, but they were misinformed." she sadly stated. "Though, your wrong about free will. The Lord, who banished me, gave man free will for a reason. That is why there is both heaven and hell. Those who follow him go to heaven, and those who don't go to hell. It is restricting yes. But there are two sides to every coin, if that is the saying."

"I'm sorry...I didn't mean to upset you." He replied. Rising from the bed, Evander walked towards the door to the room. Carefully, he brought in the serving cart without allowing Serra to be seen. "Thank you again Dimitri. We'll be fine from here." He said to the massive man at the door.

Pushing the cart towards the bed, Evan examined the spread before them. The top half held a colorful selection of choices for the mouth to enjoy: sliced apples, fresh strawberries, melon balls, thin cuts of kiwi and more stood waiting to be sampled. A small tea set sat next to the fruit. Evan recognized the aroma: Earl Grey. His father had always insisted on serving it in the afternoon. The bottom of the cart held a large selection of soft cakes and pastries, also begging to be eaten.

"What it like? In heaven?" Evan asked as he poured the tea into two delicate china cups.

"It's alright." Serra replied and watched him bring in the colorful array of snacks and tea. This would be new for her, she had never eaten before, she wondered what they would all taste like. Serra took the cup when he filled at and slowly brought it to her nose smelling it. It's odor was strange, not of this world. Well, her world. Putting the cup to her mouth, the angel drank to quickly. "Ow!" she exclaimed and quickly put the cup down. It was the first time she felt pain as well. Then, she turned her attention to his question. "Well, it's white. The color of purity. A place filled with worship for he who created man. It is a place of greatness for humans. We angels though are not loved like humans. We are servants to him. He is fair though, not treating us bad."

Evan watched as Serra downed the cup in one gulp, unable to stop her in time. He listened as she described the up shot of the after life, slowly sipping the tea. "Have a small piece of cake. It will cut down on the stinging a little." He said as he set his cup down gently.

"I fear that the words 'I'm sorry' will keep popping up in our conversation. I feel the need to apologize for the preferred treatment than man receives in the here after. And I do need to express my regret for not informing you that the tea would be hot. I'm afraid that I assumed that you would know about the simple things we humans take for granted. So, is serving all that you do? I would think that God would allow you to have some form of pleasure. Should heaven not be a paradise for all?"
