"You're right. Let's get some rest," Lumi said, her voice soft as her gaze lingered on the two of them. With a gentle wave, she bid them goodnight, her expression warm but tinged with an unspoken heaviness. The thought of returning home didn’t entirely sit well with her, though the idea of reuniting with her siblings after so long did bring a small sense of comfort. "Sleep well, Wrynn and Varre," she added with a faint smile before turning on her heels and retreating to her room. The warmth of the shower enveloped her like a soothing embrace, washing away the tension that had clung to her throughout the evening. As the remnants of her nerves dissolved, she felt lighter, refreshed, and ready for the solace of sleep to claim her.

Lumi had always been an early riser, a habit ingrained in her youth and one she maintained with quiet discipline into adulthood. After gathering her belongings, she stepped out of her room, unsurprised to find Varre nearby. "Good morning, Varre," she greeted, her tone calm but purposeful. "We won't take long to eat before setting out." When they crossed paths with Wrynn a short while later, she offered him a polite "Good morning" as well. True to her word, they made quick work of their meal, eager to begin the journey toward her kingdom. She couldn't help but feel relieved that they’d be traveling on horseback rather than enduring the trek on foot, sparing them the strain and allowing for swifter progress.

The weather had softened, the heavy snowfall giving way to delicate flurries that drifted lazily from the skies. The air was crisp but pleasantly mild, with little to no wind to bite at their cheeks. Perched atop her horse, Lumi ran her fingers gently through its mane, her touch tender and reverent. She patted its strong, graceful neck with care, her voice soft as she whispered, "Thank you for letting me ride you." Her words carried genuine gratitude, treating the horse not as a mere animal but as a trusted companion. Her gaze shifted to Wrynn and Varre as she called out, "We ready?" Without waiting long for a response, she took the reins firmly in hand and gave them a decisive flick, signaling her horse to move forward. With a steady rhythm of hooves against the earth, the journey began.

Fortunately, they had packed enough food rations and water to sustain them throughout the journey, as stopping for a proper meal would have cost them precious time. If they wanted to reach the castle by sundown, they couldn't afford delays. "We're almost there," Lumi announced, her voice cutting through the steady rhythm of hooves on the ground. Though Varre was already familiar with the route, she wanted to keep Wrynn informed. He might not have traveled to her kingdom -or even this region - before, and she preferred to keep him in the loop.

The weariness of the long ride began to settle in. Lumi could feel her horse growing fatigued, its pace slowing with each passing mile. Her own thighs ached from the unrelenting hours in the saddle, but they pressed on, encouraged by the sight ahead. As the sun dipped lower on the horizon, the distant kingdom finally came into view. Its towering structures glowed softly, their lights illuminating the surroundings like a beacon of warmth and welcome in the encroaching twilight.

Perhaps it was the anticipation of reaching their destination that made the final stretch feel agonizingly slow. Yet, as soon as they arrived, the trio wasted no time in guiding their weary horses to the stables, ensuring the animals were well cared for after their long journey. With the horses tended to, they stretched out their stiff, aching muscles and allowed themselves a moment to recover before making their way to the grand entrance of the castle.

Just as Lumi raised her hand to knock on the towering doors, they burst open with an excited clamor. Her younger brother and sister - her twin siblings only a year shy of twenty - practically launched themselves at her, enveloping her in an enthusiastic and much-needed embrace.

"Lumi!!!" they cried in unison, their voices filled with joy and relief. Her brother, now towering over her, easily wrapped her in his arms, while her sister, only slightly shorter, joined in the embrace with equal fervor. Lumi couldn’t help but laugh softly, the warmth of their affection melting away the fatigue of the journey. For the first time in a long while, she felt truly at home.

"Guys, you're going to suffocate me!" Lumi exclaimed with a lighthearted laugh, though her arms instinctively wrapped around both of them, pulling them into a tight embrace. "So much has changed since I last saw you," she whispered, her voice softening. "Oh, how I've missed you." She could feel the sting of tears threatening to fall, but she held them back, not wanting to linger too long on the time they'd spent apart.

After a few more moments in their embrace, Lumi stepped back, her expression warm as she gestured toward Wrynn. "This is Wrynn," she said, her tone turning formal yet fond. "He's my classmate and has been traveling with me. I know I don't need to say this, but please show him the same hospitality and kindness you’ve always shown me." Her siblings nodded eagerly, their smiles brimming with curiosity as they turned their attention to Wrynn.

"Nice to meet you, Wrynn. I'm Lexi," Lumi's sister greeted warmly, offering a graceful curtsy as she acknowledged him with a polite smile.

"And I'm Luca," he introduced, bowing respectfully before straightening with practiced ease. "We have dinner prepared in the grand dining room, but if you’d prefer to freshen up first, let us show you to your room." His tone was welcoming, his demeanor calm and collected - a stark contrast to Varre's often brusque nature.

Turning to Lumi with a nostalgic smile, Luca added, "Lumi, your room is exactly as you left it. You know where to find it." His words carried a sense of nostalgia, and the gesture of his hand invited Wrynn to follow, ensuring their guest felt completely at ease in their home despite the recent affairs.

Despite Lumi’s request to her guard that he behave himself and to treat her traveling companion with respect and not as a member of Nilheim that was currently causing issues on the border. He was here on ministry business and didn’t have time to argue with someone from the royal guard, and his distaste for Wrynn could cause issues and complications if he were trying to move through the kingdom. “Sleep Well, Lumi,” Wrynn responded, but his eyes glanced towards Varre, who was looking in his direction before turning to his princess and bowing his head to her, showing his respect. She was the princess of these lands, and it was only proper that she was shown respect even if she didn’t want such a thing and wanted to go by her name. He could only obey so much before disregarding her requests not to treat her like royalty.

“Sleep well, Lumi.” He made his own comment before watching the two disappear into their own private rooms before he would take his own leave into his private quarters for the night.

With the sun rising over the horizon, Lumi would find her guard standing already in the hallway, prepared to leave. Dressed in his armor with his hand resting upon the pommel of his sword. He provided a bow upon Lumi’s appearance. “Of course, it is my duty to ensure I’m by your side for protection until we arrive back home and you are in the safety of the castle walls.”

Shortly after, the door to Wrynn’s room opened, and the gloomy-eyed man stepped out with his pack already over his backside. He was dressed in the familiar Nilheim robes of his home—black and silver. “Good morning.” He responded in kind but spoke nothing to Varre, who also didn’t say a word. The three of them gathered their quick breakfast before heading to the stables of the inn, where three horses had been provided to them. Upon seeing the horses, Wrynn was slightly surprised because of this region's harsh, cold nature. He figured they would have something more robust and sturdy for the cold weather year-round.

Taking to the saddle and gathering the reins, he would follow behind Lumi, who would be in the middle of the small convoy that had started as Varre chose to ride in the front. "I will keep an eye out, so please stay behind me, Princess." He had returned to calling her by her title now that they were on the road and no longer in front of civilians that would make her uncomfortable to be called by such a regal title after playing ministry mage in front of them.

The ride was long and harsh, but the cold weather was on their side that day, it seemed. Blessing them with only light breezes and the natural chill of the temperature, the cold didn’t bother Wrynn as his magic continued to regulate through his body. He kept himself warm even in the harshest climates, as Lumi and Varre were more bundled before him.

The sun was soon to set now beneath the horizon. The towers of the castle pierced the sky and soon came into full view as the party was tired from the hard day's ride, and the horses would need plenty of rest. Wrynn was already planning for Lumi’s parents to request that she stay for more than a day before traveling deeper into the country to enter the taiga in which the spirit tree rested.

“Lumi!!!” The voices pierced out as the doors to the castle burst open. Lumi was surrounded by her siblings, who hugged her tightly. Varre was removing Lumi’s belongings and pack from her horse and already moving ahead to carry them inside and up to her chambers so she did not have the burden of carrying them herself after the long day ride. "I will take these inside to your chambers, welcome home Princess." Varre seemed more at ease now that there was more to protect her than just himself. More he could trust and not needing to rely on a Nilheim man to protect his Princess.

Wrynn stayed behind, just off to the right of Lumi, who was busy with her siblings until they noticed his presence. His hand held firmly onto the travel back that was slung over his shoulder before Lumi had introduced him to her brother and sister.

“Lumi has spoken highly and glowingly of you two; putting faces to the names is nice.” The truth was that she had only mentioned her siblings once to Wrynn, but he made it sound like she gushed on and on about them. A small smile on Wrynn’s face as he seemed to be saying this intentionally as he shuffled his feet in the snow and began to move up the stairs with Lumi and her siblings.

“Thank you for the hospitality. I’m sure it isn’t easy for some to see my presence within these walls, but I’m here in Ministry Business as a guest.” He already felt the eyes on him from the guards on the wall and soon the guards that were stationed inside the warm walls. Of course, nothing was said, but he knew the look in their eyes and how they had already cast their judgment upon him, even if Lumi and her family were more open-minded. The people were not so easily swayed.

“Lumi. I suspect your parents will ask you to stay for a couple of days to get rest and to catch up with you before we continue our journey to the spirit tree. In this meantime, if we do stay, I can teach you more about mana control.” Just two days ago, when they encountered the troll, he criticized her porous mana control and how she burned through it. How casting her spell to defeat the troll nearly drained her.

“If you want, of course.” He realized how sudden it may seem as they never even spoke about training or working on any of their studies since they had left the ministry, but he found it important that she work on it if they were to continue this journey together. It would be important in the fights to come – luckily, they have only had to deal with a single troll all alone, but if the spirit trees have been harmed or corrupted, then the deeper they travel, the more angry that nature and its creatures may be. Also, were there any bandits or highwaymen looking for a quick rob on two travelers?

He followed the royal family as they casually strolled deeper into the castle where the guest room would be for Wrynn so he could get some rest and change into something else before dinner.

As they walked, both Lexi and Luca filled the air with chatter, eagerly recounting the details of what they were doing while Lumi and Wrynn traveled to get there. Their stories weren't particularly groundbreaking - just updates on their magic research, progress with their usual studies, and how mother and father were faring. From their descriptions, it seemed everything was going smoothly. Yet, what stood out most, though, was their mention of how much mother and father had changed over the years. According to them, they'd grown softer, more open, and surprisingly accepting of change - a shift that brought a quiet sense of warmth and relief to the conversation.

Glancing back, she noticed Wrynn trailing behind, his quiet demeanor suggesting he didn't want to intrude on her family time. With a gentle smile, she motioned for him to come closer, shifting slightly to make room by her side. "Don't be shy," she encouraged, her tone warm and inviting.

As they walked, her heart twinged with pity for him. She was well aware of the glances and subtle glares he was enduring from the guards, their wariness evident. But Wrynn remained steadfast, his strength and resolve unwavering. He didn't seem the least bit fazed by their scrutiny, a testament to his resilience. He could have easily declined to accompany her, choosing the comfort of a nearby inn instead, but he hadn't - and that only deepened her admiration for him.

"In this meantime, if we do stay, I can teach you more about mana control."

"...You wouldn't mind helping me train?" she asked, her eyes widening in surprise at his extended offer. Mana control had always eluded her - a skill she'd struggled to grasp on her own. Her pride had kept her from seeking help in the past, stubbornly refusing advice even when she knew it might benefit her. But something had shifted these past few days. Her pride, once unyielding, seemed to have softened, leaving her more open to accepting the support she once resisted. And then there was Wrynn. Their growing companionship, whether she wanted to admit it or not, was beginning to change her. His steady presence made her feel both challenged and supported in ways she hadn't expected. Perhaps this was her chance to not only improve but to truly trust someone else for the first time in a long while.

"It's never a bad thing to get insight from someone else, sis," Lexi chimed in, her voice light and cheerful as she joined the conversation uninvited. Despite her eavesdropping, her words carried no malice or judgment, just her usual warmth. "Sometimes you might even discover things you hadn't considered before, and it can help you see things from a whole new perspective." Her bubbly personality shone through like a little ray of sunshine, dispelling any tension in the moment. It was impossible to be annoyed with her - her optimism had a way of making even the most stubborn walls feel a little less rigid.

"This is your room, Wrynn!" Luca said warmly, gesturing to the door on the right. "Please, try to make yourself at home. I know that's easier said than done, but we're here for you." His tone was kind, addressing the unspoken awkwardness in the air with gentle sincerity. Pointing down the hall to the left, he added, "Lumi's bedroom is just down there if you need anything from her," offering Wrynn a sense of reassurance as he oriented him to the unfamiliar space. With a respectful bow, Luca gave him one last encouraging smile before heading off to his own quarters, leaving Wrynn with a sense of quiet understanding and welcome.

"Well, I'm going to wash up for dinner," Lumi said with a small, inviting smile. "I'll meet you at your door, and we can head down together." She gave him a subtle wave before turning toward her room, a space she hadn't set foot in for years.

Wrynn was comfortable in trailing behind, knowing that from Lumi's own mouth, she hadn't seen her family in quite some time. Years since she last saw her siblings in the flesh, but it appeared that the Princess had caught onto him, following a step behind and shifting her demeanor and presence in the hall to make room for him as she would beckon silently with a gesture for him to move up by her side. His offer lingered in the air for a moment, pulling from the conversation of the royal family in which Lumi sounded nearly surprised he was offering his assistance in training her, but Wrynn saw it as beneficial for the both of them. He couldn't have her nearly passing out or becoming exhausted anytime she would use her magic.

"Of course not. We are on a long journey with no end in sight currently. We don't even know our true enemy and what their goal is." Wrynn was trying to think ahead on this journey and make plans for it. They could run into enemy mages or monsters looking to defeat them and end their journey. Lumi becoming stronger would only increase their chances of survival. It wasn't because he was a good person by nature or that he was looking to help her achieve the goal he was also aiming for – but he could put aside his own personal gain for the benefit of the group. Their survival was tantamount.

Her sister, Lexi, had chimed in on the idea of her receiving assistance and training from a fellow peer. She sees nothing wrong with learning from someone of the same age and rank and trying to aid in pushing her sister into accepting the offer.

"Just give it some thought." He added after the young Princess chimed in.

Before long, they had come to a stop, and the young Prince showed Wrynn to his room while briefly describing where Lumi's room would be if he needed anything from her, but that only earned a raised brow in response from Wrynn. "Thank you, Prince Luca, but if I am to need something then surely a servant would do. Bothering the Princess who has just returned home after so long, surely she will have more pressing matters than small concerns of mine." He gave a polite and respectful smile before giving a small bow to the royal family that had decided to escort him through the palace to the guest room.

With Luca and Lexi leaving them to return to their own quarters, his attention turned back towards Lumi, who spoke of washing up.

"Of course. I will take the time to wash up from our travel today and will wait for your knock." His travel pack should have been brought to the room ahead of him when they first arrived and their greeting. He would wash up and put on fresh clothes before meeting with the rest of her family for dinner tonight, expecting that they would like to see their daughter and, of course, speak about the mission they have been tasked with.

It would be best for him to wait in his room as well until Lumi returned. Already, the guard was keeping their eyes on him, and walking through the palace unsupervised would only raise suspicion. They would be looking for any reason to call him a spy from his homeland who had tricked the goodhearted Princess and was using her for nefarious gains for the Empire in looking for a weakness. To bring war back between these two nations.

Watching as Lumi would leave to her own room he would enter the guest room. Removing the pin from his cloak, he would strip down from the dirty robes he wore and move to the prepared bath in the room in which he would quickly wash himself. Once finished with the wash, he would dress in nearly identical clothes – natural for a citizen of Nilheim to wear identical clothing—black and silver with his house sigil.

Taking the book he had been reading sparsely, he would sit at the desk in the room and wait for Lumi to knock.

Choosing not to argue with Wrynn, Luca instead offered a polite nod accompanied with a warm smile, respecting his wishes. "Fair enough, whelp, we'll see you at dinner!" Cheerfully he spoke, giving a small wave before striding in the opposite direction with Lexi by his side. The pair made their way towards their own quarters, leaving the hallway abandoned once more.

As Lumi stepped inside of her old room, her azure hues skated over the once familiar space, untouched by time. Everything was just as she remembered leaving it from years ago, the space filled with relics of outdated hobbies she once adored, and trinkets aplenty she had long since forgotten. A wave a nostalgia brought a tender smile to her lips, her heart warming for a brief moment until the memories of why she wanted to leave resurfaced. Quickly, the smile began to fade, her lips tugging into a frown as the memories from the past shadowed over the happiness of visiting her old room.

Sighing, the young woman shook her head to push away the unwelcoming thoughts that lingered. Pacing towards the washroom, she was eager to take a much-needed bath. The scent of horses clung onto her thick clothing, her nose scrunching in response as she took in a waft. Lumi wondered if the others had noticed the strange smell, being too kind to mention it. Disrobing and slipping into the steaming water, her lips parted to let out a contented sigh as the warmth enveloped her tired body. It was as if the warmth was massaging away the exhaustion of the day's journey, causing her to close her eyes and attune to the waters as her sapphire locks floated with the water. "He's so damn hard to read, ugh..." Muttering under her breath to herself, her thoughts involuntarily drifted to Wrynn. He possessed a monotone demeanor and a lack of visible emotion, deeming him a puzzle that she couldn't quite solve. "Does he like me? Does he enjoy my company?" It was all a mystery and she couldn't help but speculate what was going on in that strange head of his. Even despite her uncertainty, she didn't believe he was the type to pretend and put on a facade, knowing he wasn't afraid to say what he had to in the moment, but the stuff that wasn't addressed? She just couldn't understand him.

Realizing that she had lingered in the bath for longer than anticipated, Lumi hurriedly tended to her hair and body before stepping out, securing her bare form with a towel to dry herself and use it while rummaging through her closet. Sorting through her clothes, she settled on something she hadn't worn in ages - a formal dress. As she finagled her way into the dress to slip it on, she couldn't help but marvel at how it seemingly transformed her. It had been a long while since she had dressed so extravagantly, but tonight felt like the perfect occasion to doll herself up for once. Taking a moment to curl her elongated strands of hair, the soft waves gracefully fell to frame her face, adding an air of elegance. Catching her reflection in the nearby mirror, she almost didn't recognize herself. It had been a long time since she felt like a different version of herself - polished and poised, ready to take on the evening and embrace it.

Echoing sharply against the marbled flooring, her heeled shoes paced towards Wryann's quarters, each step a rhythmic melody of her stride. Once she reached his door, her right hand lifted as her fingers curled inwardly, knocking three times - soft but deliberate - before taking a single step backwards to allow space for him to answer her call. Neatly, her hands folded in front of her, her eyes scanning the floor as she waited patiently as anticipation began to flutter within her chest as she prepared to walk down to the dining room together.

Slowly the pages would turn of the aged book, foreign text lay upon the worn pages and slightly faded, but Wrynn was unbothered by the aged binding and parchment, simply accepting what he was given on this journey and what he brought with him. Studying older histories and languages, learning what he could about the past and magic in general. So much documented in different languages, so many family lines and different cultures that revered magic in different ways. People and cultures that didn’t exist anymore.

It was important to learn these things, at least to Wrynn. If he were to fulfill his Uncle's role and take over as an Archmagus of Nilheim and advise the Emperor, he would learn from history to better lead and advise from.

Lost in the pages of historical text, he was pulled free from their grasp when a soft knock came to his door, and he would lift his head from the pages. The soft and still slightly damp black locks fell and framed his features as he shifted from his seat and moved towards the door. He was dressed almost identically to the same robes he had been wearing the past several days. Having brought the same clothing, pairs as was the custom in Nilheim where it was proper to wear fine clothing and for mages to wear robes without deviation for the empire and its customs.

Sliding the door open and stepping in the doorway he was expecting Lumi to be dressed in similar clothing to what she wore back at the ministry and classes, but instead, he was met with the Princess of this Kingdom. Taken off guard by his traveling companion wearing such a regal dress and heels for dinner. Dressing herself up for dinner with her family, parents she had not seen in such time. “Wow.” He spoke out of turn, without much of a thought. Despite their differences and arguments in the past, it was clear to many that Lumi was a beautiful woman, a blossoming bud in a blizzard, but seeing her dressed up was completely different and almost like she was a new person.

“I apologize for staring, Princess.” He gave a proper bow, bending half over with a playful smirk lingering on his lips as he went down, giving her perhaps just a glance of his changing emotion for once as he was teasing her. “As the eldest son of one of the Great Eight Houses of Nilheim, Wrynn Crymshar, I humbly ask to attend dinner with the Princess.” He was intentionally being formal with her and the approach to her change of attire. He wasn’t intending to make her feel bad about her change or uncomfortable but perhaps because seeing her in something so different gave him the comfort to be more open with her – she was showing a side of him he wasn’t sure if she was comfortable in or wanted to show him.

“Of course, I will be on my best behavior. I already suspect that the guards are watching my every move, and anything I do will be suspected of spying. I’ve never met your Father, but I’m sure he will be careful around me – but Princess, we spoke in the tavern with tears in your eyes that I told you I am not a spy, nor do I know the intentions of my homeland.” He spoke, reassuring her he had no ulterior motive with this dinner or spending time in her home. Holding out an outstretched arm for her to take if she so wished and accepted his request to go to dinner with her.

Not as if he had much else to do besides sit in his room or go to dinner. He would just be followed and questioned at every step. Without Lumi’s presence, they may even be so bold as to even try something with him and pin the blame on to him if he retaliated, claiming he was the one to start the fight or was an assassin.

“After you, Princess.” He smiled, letting her take the lead. This was her, home after all, and he had no idea where he was going.

I apologize for staring, Princess.
As the eldest son of one of the Great Eight Houses of Nilheim, Wrynn Crymshar, I humbly ask to attend dinner with the Princess.

"Wrynn, you dummy! No need to act so formal." Huffing, her cheeks puffed out in an adorable pout as she directed a lethal glare in his direction, her brow almost twitching from the strain. "I'm still the same old Lumi, just wearing different clothes, that's all..." Her fingers lifted to reach for a curly lock of hair that rested against her collarbone, her thumb and index finger gently pinching the dangling lock as her gaze wavered. For a brief moment of distraction, her eyes looked in the distance, a gentle blush etching against her cheeks - as if adding a touch of vulnerability to her flustered demeanor.

-but Princess, we spoke in the tavern with tears in your eyes that I told you I am not a spy, nor do I know the intentions of my homeland.

"I trust you, I know." Softly Lumi reassured him as her voice carried an encouraging warmth. "And I’ll do everything I can to ease the tension during dinner." Obviously Wrynn wouldn't engage in anything reckless - not here - in a land where he wasn't exactly welcomed with open arms. It was disheartening to know that there were people out there that hated those for simply coming from a place with a tarnished reputation.

"You being born in Nilheim doesn’t define the person you are." With conviction she spoke, her arm weaving through his as she pressed close to his side, her grin tugging at her lips as she lit up. "Even if I can’t change their minds, I’ll make sure your stay is worthwhile. At least Luca and Lexi seem to like you."

Leading him forward, she guided them through the expansive hallways, the walls adorned with elegant paintings that graced the walls. Statues alongside intricate decorations lined the edges, showcasing just how grand this castle was and who its rightful owners were. Sharply, the click of her heels snapped against the polished floor, echoing softly as it filled the quiet space as they made their way toward the dining room. Gently she slipped her arm out from his - knowing Wrynn would likely prefer that - as she fell in step beside him. Entering the dining room, her eyes landed on Lexi and Luca who had already seated themselves.

"Welcome back!" Lexi warmly greeted the two as her smiled beamed with enthusiasm. "Mom and Dad will be here soon, please, sit!" Her hand gestured over to the chair across from her and Luca, eagerly ushering Lumi and Wrynn to sit down. Her excitement was palpable, radiating in every word and movement as she was clearly overjoyed to be sharing a meal with her sister again. Varre idly stood along the wall, a few others guards and maids flanked alongside him. Already the table was adorned with an impressive spread of dishes, a vibrant array with fragrant foods that had been meticulously prepared for the somewhat special occasion.

Sitting down into her seat, she noticed Wrynn placing himself besides her from the corner of her eye. Adjusting her attention to her siblings, she smiled warmly. "So, how have things been with you two?" Asking, she was eager to catch up as they waited for their parents to arrive before eating. Luca and Lexi eagerly filled the air with their daily lives, sharing how they both had been studying magic. Lexi excitedly spoke on her progress at mastering elemental magic, while Luca expressed his fondness on healing magic.

Making it a point to include Wrynn in the conversation, Luca shifted as his eyes looked at the man, wanting him to be a welcoming part of their exchange. "What's your magic like, Wrynn? We'd love to know! While you're at it, tell us a bit about yourself."

Wrynn was unsure as to why he felt comfortable seeing Lumi dressed as a proper princess now. Perhaps it was because she was uncomfortable for once when she had been so confident in her appearance since he had known her and in their short journey together. Now dressed, fit for a royal banquet, she showed slight signs of nervousness, and he couldn’t help but tease her suddenly. A compulsion to do so, perhaps because he just wanted to see her blush, or perhaps it was something deeper that he didn’t want to admit to himself just at the moment. Their relationship had been rocky for years, and only now had it been slightly repaired after they were forced together on this journey together. Lumi was someone who acted like she was not a Royal Princess but someone with a bit of an ego that had begun to learn magic and had been given the world at times.

Seeing her in a dress didn’t make her more attractive in his eyes. She had always been easy on the eyes with graceful beauty, but it was the dress and soft nature in which she was ready for dinner that brought his attention to the front, and he recognized Lumi as more than just his traveling companion at the moment. She was a woman, fully grown and by his side. The way she reacted to his remarks and tease, having her nearly stomp on the marbled floor in her heels while becoming flustered and fussing with a strand of her hair, brought him to a sense of reality that he wasn’t paying attention to these last couple of days in their travels.

He would welcome her arm into his own as they would walk side by side together down the hall and towards the feast hall in which they would dine. “Oh, the Princess is going to make my stay worthwhile? What could such a thing mean.” He had no idea what her thoughts were or what she intended to do to keep him satisfied within her home, while many of the servants and guards would hold contempt and disdain for him because they could not trust him or his intentions, even with the Princess’s guarantee. He wouldn’t blame them, understanding that times were tense and Nilheim was pushing the boundary of the armistice that was signed years ago. They had a duty to protect their lands and the royal family, and even if Lumi trusted him, they would not be so easy on trusting him.

Upon approaching the grand doors of the expansive hallway with the glittering silvers adorned on the walls with braziers and painted murals. Lumi had removed her arm from his own, wisely doing so as it would only cause issues with her protectors if she had been so open with him like that.

They entered the chambers and saw that her siblings were already prepared and waiting at the table, but her parents had not arrived just yet. Already, he kept his eyes on the guards that lined themselves near the doors or sparsely along the walls, and he could see they were focused on him, even if they were professional about it. Keeping himself composed and aware, he would follow Lumi into the dining hall and sit at the table next to her while she began engaging with her siblings and hearing all the stories and details she had been missing not being here in person. Letters could only carry so much in conversation.

He kept himself silent while he listened to the family gathering, how happy they were all to see their older sister while talking about their own daily lives and what Lumi hadn’t been around for. Of course, that was until they brought Wrynn into the conversation, asking about himself and his magic. “Well there isn’t much that is interesting about me. I’m the eldest son of one of Nilheim’s Great Houses, House Crymshar, and the stories I’m sure many of you have heard about the strict rules and laws that Nilheim has is very much true.” He would cover some of the more boring aspects of his life and about himself, how growing up as nobility in Nilheim wasn’t always pleasant and expectations were high. Military and power were essential to the houses, and in turn, they raised their children like soldiers many times.

“For my magic, it is my family's lineage. Crymshar is a line of Blood Mages, a rare and hereditary magic that is a closely guarded asset of my family. My little brothers… did not inherit the magic, and it is my duty to become one of the next Archmagos of Nilheim.” He wouldn’t go into details about the position or that his duty would be to advise the Emperor one day, and that advise may involve this very land he found himself in the moment.

“Blood Magic is as it sounds as well. Like any magic, it can be dangerous, it is important to continue your studies and recognize that magic is a tool you can use, but it is a dangerous tool. One that should be treated with more care than jus a sword or a bow.” He wasn’t here to give Lumi or her siblings a lesson in magic and the dangers that it possessed, and someone with ill intentions and a proper skillset could be more dangerous than a battalion of soldiers. It was why Lumi’s Royal Guard was so on edge and untrusting of Wrynn, why they watched him with intensity because of his status as a Mage within the Ministry but hailing from Nilheim. He was about to meet the King and Queen, and if he decided to attack, would they be able to stop him?

It would be foolish of him to attempt such a thing or to be ordered by his family. As a Noble, he still had a high standing and his life was more valued than a commoner in Nilheim, where the commoners were viewed down upon by many who rode in their gilded carriages.

“Enough about me, though. I’m not interesting enough to hold the entire conversation on myself.”

Oh! So are you a vampire or something?” Lexi had asked, her expression a mixture of seriousness and naivety, as her interest piqued at his mentioning of blood being an integral part of his magical lineage. Sitting beside her, Luca has nearly choked on the wine in his throat, hastily setting the glass down as he coughed into his balled fist as he attempted to compose himself. Subtly, he shook his head as he draped an arm around Lexi's shoulder - a silent effort to smooth over the miscommunication before it spiraled further.

I think Lexi is simply excited to learn that there are other types of magic. Let him finish, okay?” Lexi's brows knitted together as confusion riddled her face, uncertain as to why her genuine question had been perceived as rude - she was simply curious. Giving a slow nod, she chose to let Wrynn continue, eagerness still speckling against her hues. Meanwhile from across the table, Lumi couldn't help herself but giggle, amused by how little time had changed her siblings.

What do you mean? You’re very interesting!” Lexi quietly grumbled under her breath, disappointed that Wrynn wasn't interested in talking anymore about himself. She yearned to know more, knowing this might be the only time she'd ever get to see him in person. Lumi offered her sister a warm smile, appreciative that her siblings were welcoming despite Wrynn's origins.

"Hey, maybe later he'll warm up more and share more. We've been traveling all day and he's probably tired." Lumi attempted to fabricate reasons as to why Wrynn was so reluctant to continue on speaking about himself, but deep down she understood why. It couldn't be easy to speak so freely with guards stationed around the room, their watchful gaze tracking his every move - as if anticipating him to do something. And when he discussed Nilheim, even knowing nearly everyone here despised it, it must've been even more difficult.

The invisible tension seemed to increase once her mother and father entered the dining hall, prompting everyone who was sitting at the table to rise and bow in their presence.

Greetings, mother and father.” Lumi was the first to speak as she lifted her head, her azure hues fixated on her mother as she approached her. Instead of returning her greeting with reciprocated words, her mother simply took her into her arms, wrapping them robustly around her figure in a tight embrace - holding on as if she couldn't believe that Lumi was finally back in her arms.

I’ve missed you, darling.” Her voice was thick with emotion as she spoke, tears threatening to spill and break her pristine demeanor. Before breaking free, she pulled back, her gaze sweeping over Lumi as if ensuring she had returned unharmed from her long journey to get there. “It’s nice to have you back, even if it’s for a short while.

The Queen strode toward Wrynn with graceful poise, lowering into a deep curtsy before offering him a formal bow as her fingers gripped her elongate dress. In spite of the tensions surrounding his presence within the room, she honored his title with the respect befitting a guest of his status. “It’s a pleasure to have you dine with us.” There wasn’t a single trace of deceit webbed within her tone, only pure sincerity and genuine appreciation for his presence among them. “Thank you for ensuring Lumi’s, and your own, safety while you traveled this way.

The King, on the other hand, appeared indifferent to his daughter's presence alongside Wrynn, giving the duo nothing more than a brief nod to acknowledge them both. Taking his seat at the head of the table, he settled down before the Queen gracefully joined him by his side. “It’s good to see you both made it.” He finally spoke, his tone even as he reached for the platter of ham before him as he took a piece to place on his plate. Without hesitation, Luca and Lexi mimicked his actions, quickly serving themselves as they began to fill their plates with the assortment of food sprawled along the table.
